Anyone have a brief breakdown of the SOTG for professions? Very interested in what they had to say about the warrior and the others..

Missed it while at work and haven’t seen anything posted, or the YouTube version posted.

Necromancers: Damage and condition coverage will likely be nerfed. Survivability will be buffed through life force generation on weapons. Next patch, Sigil of Paralyzation will no longer affect fear.

Warriors: Heal cooldowns are being reduced, at least in PvP and WvW. Berserker Stance duration going up.

Ranger: Longbow rework and more active condition cleansing are in the works.

Thief: Shadow Trap is getting a much shorter duration and maybe a cast time for the shadowstep.

Guardians: Smite Condition may get a buff to scale off multiple conditions.

Mesmer: Nothing of interest.

Elementalists: Nothing of interest.

Engineer: Nothing of interest.

Aww. I was hoping they would keep the damage and nerf the survivability instead.

I hope they’re not nerfing power necro builds. They can do whatever trash they want to condition damage and terror builds.

You have gotten what you paid for, all that remains is biweekly gemshop pushing.

Jon did talk about maybe changing Smite Condition for Guardain. I think a good idea would be you do more damage depending on how may conditions you have. Currently it’s just do more damage if you have a condition, but it would be better if it did more damage per condition you have.

That would be great synergy with Save Yourselves.

Also if you don’t know what SC is here u go:

and they are looking to adjust the duration of blindness.

Forget top class players. They don’t make up the bulk of the players in guild wars 2. Focus on the every day player. Top class will always play their game and theorycraft their way. They live in a walled garden of 5 people who know each other well, use vent, assign roles and secondary duties etc etc..when advancing the field of medicine..you focus on what works best on the masses..highly specialised neuro surgeons will always develop their own techniques in their community. At the moment most tpvp players at some stage cut their teeth first in spvp. Again..focus on the grass roots..not the tall poppies that occasionally grow here and there.

All in all though..I totally agree with you. Closed test servers and playing in isolation without taking a few vetted volunteers is detrimental..especially considering there is 1..maybe only 2 people balancing this whole game in pvp.(And potentially guild wars 1 as well) You have people glamouring to give you feedback..use the resource whilst it is there and offering it’s time for free.

The problem I experienced with “casual” players (what I also see on forums) is that they call for nerfs or buffs because they have problems with certain skillz or classes and lack of general understanding in terms of mechanics.

EG: Shatter-Mesmer: If you know the mechanic and when to dodge it gets much easier for you. Casual players sometimes don’t know how to, therefore call the class overpowered and want nerfs. Same goes for BS-Thieves.
If you look into the history of this forum you see SOOO many nerf-this-class-topics due to lack of knowledge.

(This comment is not intended as flaming or any sort of that nature, just my personal experience and the resulting opinion of it)

Your logic is broken man, when a surgeon finds a new extreme technique, only he can use it, he cant post on forums so that everyone shall copy his way of doing things, its takes too much study and practice. When you dont think high rated players and try to balance class for masses, an experienced will pop up and exploit that class to its limits. Then that popular op build will circulate from forums or streams.. There you go you just broke the meta … I think Empathetic fighter was trying to say this.

Makes sense as long as it is measured response and not some crazy 50% nerf to cover condition durations.

Warriors: Heal cooldowns are being reduced, at least in PvP and WvW. Berserker Stance duration going up.

About time. Warrior might just get there yet.

Ranger: Longbow rework and more active condition cleansing are in the works.

Sounds pretty logical. Putting a bit more damage into the ranger since there is much less on the pets now will be a good move as long as it isn’t overdone.

Thief: Shadow Trap is getting a much shorter duration and maybe a cast time for the shadowstep.

It would be a shame if that skill goes back to useless, but its not like you can’t make a thief with amazing mobility without it.

Guardians: Smite Condition may get a buff to scale off multiple conditions.

If that skill does more damage and cleanses multiple conditions DPS/Meditation Guards will be monsters. Still won’t have squat for mobility, but they will be able to level node fights.

All in all I don’t think it is too bad. The Necro changes are worrisome because the whining about them has been way overboard, but a small tweak is warranted and I think they are on the right track if they are really going to make Fear a condition rather than stun (which the sigil change implies).

I guess if its not mesmer/guardian/engineer, then its not welcome in the meta.

Kinda figured this would happen though, but thats what happens when you let PVP in a box dictate the direction of your game, like so many MMOs before this one have done. This will likely affect PVE as well I’m sure. ANet doesn’t seem too interested in separating the two. GW1 was great like that. They separated the two quite nicely. Makes me wonder why they refuse to do that here.

Necros will probably go right back to square one. Not being able to keep a single condition on anyone, and without the survival tools to stay alive longer than 3 seconds, I don’t see anyone wanting a necromancer again. DS is a horrible attrition mechanic, even with “increased life force generation” we saw this patch. The amount of condition removal from some classes is also pretty absurd, so I have no idea where all this complaining about conditions is coming from. Unfortunately, thats what “top teams” want, so thats what we’ll get.

As it is right now, condition necros only have 1 way to generate life force and thats with scepter 3. It doesn’t even give you enough life force to flash into DS if you’re empty. Staff auto isn’t even worth mentioning. Who in their right mind is going to stand there auto attacking with a power based attack with a condition build. Not to mention that the staff auto attack is still pretty bad at actually hitting things.

Tim: “Watch out! There is a floating hand coming at you!”

Greg: “Nah, its ok, I’ll just side step it. LOL!”

Furthermore, why is necro balanced around having 100% life force all the time yet they start every single match with 0?

Stuff goes here.

Agree! It seems that Necro since beta is the issue class (it can be UP or OP – according on forum. Have diffrent point of view).
I dont really give a kitten what Top Teams think about meta. Still i can understand them, they spenden so much time to make a good teamplay with theyr builds and now they doesnt work.

Necro is forced to play on condi build (i dont say that other build are bad, but they deffenetly are not worth taking, since other classes can forfill this role a lot better).
DS mechancis are bad, there is no doubt! It help mb 1-2sec to live longer and thats all!
So buffing filling DS is very bad idea and will lead to qq on forum from necros. Necro can’t play deffencivly – right tool are just not there! Siphon is terreble, DS (for suraving) is terrible (even with stability trait), MM is only option, but AI is horrobly made.
Whole Necro tools are offensive, so we must be best on it – my oppinion.
Necro dont have so much thing like mobility, survavobility, kitten we dont even have combos possobility, boons accsess is hard.

So nerfing necro offensive skills will lead to disbanding necro from tpvp again!
If they gonna nerf it down to nothing again – I am selling GW. There is no point in playing game, where WoW kids are decition are most important to devs!!!

Sharp stated that they use “top” level players to help with balancing…which to me only validates the self interest of those players (being that these buffs went through).

Sharp also misrespresented the forum, in his explanation why there isn’t a ptr, when he stated that the public didn’t want to beta test their stuff. What we don’t want to do is beta test in a LIVE environment, especially given that we don’t have the option to test it ourselves.

That’s not close to what I said. I said the “balance” process is broken and is only validated that buffs like this (that are “overtuned”) are eventually reverted or toned down.

How many times can they “miss” the mark on some of these updates before they see the value in a PTR.

Using the 500 pound gorilla as an expample. Have you seen how many proposed changes were reverted or reworked as a result of player feedback on their PTR (talking about WOW). The position that J. Sharp takes, that players have stated we don’t want to beta test their product is completely and intentionally being misrepresented.

The whole idea of taking just taking so called top player feedback is nonsense. The more feedback the better. They should be able to weed out poor feedback from good feedback. Somebody might be an average player but an excellent tester good at giving feedback. Conversely somebody can be good at playing the game but have no real clue about what is balanced or not or be very poor at expressing themselves. They should be making patch notes available to everybody ahead of time and opening test servers to everyone for special test days in order to get mass feedback. Thats how its been done by just about every other MMORPG. These guys think they have invented the wheel but instead what they have invented is an average pvp game missing a ton of important features with a bunch of imbalanced crap like over-powered aoe spam and CC chaining. Things that should have been weeded out long ago. It’s a joke.

I made a necro just to see them in action in this patch and all can i say its they really needed to nerf the damage it was to high, even not playing necro you could see that every game was filled with conditions it was a mess, like this pach was the condition patch even warriors were doing condition damage build wtf?.

About warriors… increasing berserker stance?, that dosent matter at all its not going to help in anything if any they should make endure pain longer and make you inmune to conditions too, then modify the stantce trait instead of duration should be cool down reduction.

And warrior heals not only need cd reduction they need to reflect the high hp that a warrior can achieve, while other clases can get 70%+ of their hp warrior only 50%-, its a joke.

A Terror nerf and making Dhuumfire apply torment instead of burning were brought up, and both of those would nerf damage and coverage without hurting the class much.

There are pros and cons to both types of testing.

Test servers allow for a lot more feedback, and generally more intensely tested skills/abilities. At the same time it also takes more resources (both human and technology) and means there is a lot more illogical feedback to sift through.

Getting feedback from select players helps to focus down on the feedback, and helps them address the tPvP meta more quickly, but therein lies my problem with it.

In general the top tPvP players are very good at what they do and have a great understanding of the game and it’s mechanics, but some of the best analytical players (read: those who understand the minute details and the mechanics of balance) can easily be either playing other modes or simply not as talented. Anet is missing out on a huge source of information by not letting these players provide feedback for them.

I honestly think that while a test server will require more resources and work, the end result will be far superior, which will lead to a happier community overall. One of John’s arguments (an argument he says he saw on the forums, not necessarily his own) against test servers is that people don’t want to be forced to play a game in beta. My response to that is no one is required to play on the test servers. It’s simply there as an option for those that are interested, as a lot of players would have a lot of fun helping to shape the game in that way.

I feel like a lot of areas of the game have been neglected over time because of such a heavy focus on the s/tPvP and the top players in general.

Anyway, that’s my two cents. No one from Anet will probably ever read this buried in this thread, but I wanted to share my thoughts anyway.
