Anything being done about Broken DH trapper?
Because its easy to play and very rewarding dont take half the skill that necro current state requires in full solo play or 1v1. If you maximalized your skill on necro to learn kiting and positioning and other stuff that you need to learn to have any success on necro and you change class to like gua and others you will become like a boss fight to other players.
I only played guardian a couple time to learn their skills. I’ve vs’d and won many times against multiple dh teams They are similar to warrior. They are a strong but selfish build. If you have decent team play, they can’t really do much to help sustain their team. That is why you don’t see the upper tier teams running them often.
The only class in the game that dosent require dodging and can just spam cooldowns like blocks and invul while standing still and dropping AoE damage. Despite how easy it is to play this class it also too rewarding for the amount of effort required. It also hard counters thief, mes , warrior , necro and invo rev and the other match ups it can stalemate so basically Dh dosent even lose to any class 1v1 ( unless you use some useless build made for 1v1 )
Combine that with the fact that normal games dont have proper class distribution system and even if 2 builds out of dozens are good vs DH you will most likely not have them in your solo Q to counter a stacked Dh trapper team.
Just give me a reason to play any other classs than DH in a normal ranked or unranked game. if I can just stand still and spam AoE damage while blocking half of the time and the other half being invul.
Something needs to be done about DH . Either cut the block duration in half or make it at least weak to condis.

DH trapper is very OP in normal games that are not team vs team or the pro league games. Because you cant have an optimal comp and team coordination to take this build down especially when stacked together.
Its also the only class that I see stacked the most. teams with 3 warriors, 3 thieves, 3 mesmers, 3 eles or whatever dosent happen very often compared to teams with 3 DHs. I wonder why so many people play it well I think I know why…

You both gave good points… It wouldn’t be fair to lower the skill floor even more for people who lose through human error…. And Guard does hard stomp pub games due to lots of human error. There are already options available to deal with DH effectively.
The only true invulnerability DH can use has no point contribution and the rest of the blocks can be bypassed with unblockable attacks…

The easiest way to shut down this type of thread is to ask for a video showing them fighting a DH. If we can properly analyze how they and their opponent fights it will give us better insight about how “broken” DH actually is

I see so many of these threads and I have no idea why. DH is not, never has been and because of the amount of complaints, never will be very strong at the highest level. Say what you want about that being 1% of players, that tier is what the game should be balanced around. If you want to get better, it is best to stop saying that things are OP and learn to play against them.
I always struggled against warriors, but did I just think it was an unwinnable matchup and not even try to take it? Did I complain about it is OP? No, I took as many 1v1s against warriors as I could and if I lost, I asked the players to duel me in private arena until I had that matchup. Right now, I am still learning to duel warriors from the very top tier. I get absolutely destroyed when I face Drazeh’s warrior 1v1 (other very good wars too, but to a lesser extent). Do I say it is too strong because of this? No, whenever I get him in my games (which is quite a bit), I take as many duels as I can until I will eventually have that matchup, which with enough practice, I eventually will.
This applies to people complaining about any class. If you want to improve, you need to have the mindset that nothing is OP (even more so when it actually is not OP like it is now) and instead think that you just need more practice to win. Learn to play against guards. Learn what to dodge. Learn how to manage your cooldowns correctly in that matchup.
OP, I am not raging at you or anything, because you are of course entitled to your own opinion, but all I am saying is that the way you see guard at the moment will not help you learn to beat it. If you do struggle against it, follow my advice and duel in private arenas, it really helps.

I used to QQ so much about dragoncancers that I have salt supply for a lifetime. As a macebow war I just couldn’t win even against bad players, mediocre players were just wiping the floor with me. But after practice and using Signet of Might just for them, I just destroy them. With them, I mean mediocre players and below. Good dragoncancers will still beat me (have to git gud) but at least it will take them some more time than before. Everything is about practice.
Now if only I could find a way to not getting absolutely annihilated by mesmers… and I mean mediocre mesmers. I believe someone like Helseth could kill me with a clone or something…
tl;dr
Im playing DH since its very rewarding. Never had any intentions to play Guard before HoT came out because it was too defensive. Traps were a massive problem since the beginning and is (imo) the worst game design this game has ever had.
Test of Faith’s damage was down patched 2 (!!) times in order get some kind of balance here.
I still think the guy in charge for that should not be allowed to design any game mechanic ever again. Heck, I will not buy another addon if the next will end with the same unbalanced desaster like we had on HoT.
However, Im currently playing condi Warrior as well and Ive noticed that one of my biggest problems is the insane amount of blindness application. I looks like the Guard blocks so often but in fact you simply often miss because of blindness state.
That would be my first intention to rebalance because you dont need to touch the DH core mechanic that much then.

The only problem I see with DH is trap duration. Dropped traps should expire faster. Guardian may be my main class, but I do exactly 0 PvP with it. Necro and rev are my PvP mains and I defeat DH’s with both. But it is annoying when you go cap an empty point and discover the DH has left a surprise for you.

The OP titles his thread dh trapper yet procees to complain about what seems like either a symbol dh or a medi trapper.
Pro tips:
1-if it spams blocks and invuls, it’s not a trapper dh
2-if it spams blocks, invuls and symbols, it’s a symbol dh
3-if it has invuls and a bow, it’s a medi trapper
4- if it bounces you around a lot, it’s a medi trapper (pay special attention to lb3)
5- if it has high sustain, it’s a symbol dh
6-if it spams alot of aoe but it has invuls, it’s a symbol dh
7-if it’s running dragon’s maw, it’s a trapper dh
8- if i thas alot of blinds, it’s a symbol dh

switch to power. dh still cant kill you and mesmers cant get a shatter off cause your 1 hitting all their clones. its great. just dont get moa’ed
It is not trap issue really, the culprit is mainly in DH traitline(passsivvveeezzzzzz)/spec (hello virtues on crack) just being too braindead/rewarding + buffs to core from previous patch. And class stacking. 1 DH can be dealt with – multiple DHs can be real issue given how pvp is all about holding point.
The reason why DHs are not so viable in high tier pvp is because besides having low skill floor they also have low skill cap. It is sooooo easy to see how that spec carries people from lower tiers in high tiers where they suddenly become completely useless because they have 0 map awareness and teamplay and opponents actually know how to play around DHs (seen it too many times in legend last season).
It is just turret engi all over again.

actually all through season 4 people who were in diamond kept saying there was 4+ dh’s per game. not that i think its op or anything.
I rem. seeing 3-4 DH per game during season 4 in legendary. and NO i dont think they are OP at all. most of them are really bad. they run to middle of point or teleport to you then spam traps. then they pop all blocks and invul. then maybe kite around till traps resets. removed stacking in pvp it will solve a lot of issue with balance.

I have been away from the game for months, I come back and I still see people complaining about DH’s and I still have NO idea why.
I’ve played upto Legendary, I don’t think and never have thought they are OP in ANYWAY at ANYTIME. They are good for lower levels of PvP where people run around essentially blind spamming skills, running straight onto points and in no way make any attempt at counterplay.
DH’s, especially your average ones of ANY current DH build are easy to counter, predict and kill.

I am playing mainly ranked with druid and win most 1v1 with DH – meta trapper almost for 3 season didn’t changed so i know too well their cooldowns and how to punish every misuse of f3. Fighting Symbolic is just boring. On ele even managed to force few to suicide – DH mostly don’t care what aura you have or reflect.
The fact that DH concept is stupid doesn’t mean that is unkillable.
oh and about counter thing – rev destroys them, war laugh at them, thief and mes just ignore them because there are to slow…
hmm but seriously people – if DH is broken…why nobody winning in ESL use them…it should be easy money right?

Because you need atleast 2 dh’s thats where things gets really interesting and class stacking is not allowed ESL. Thing is when you stack good survivability classes that have shields, boons. good cc, good damage. mobility. It becomes broken especially in solo q and DH probably the most broken at this as their skills work in too good synergy with other DH’s in teamfights. followed by rev and mesmer probably.

If you spend time practicing against DH (friends, guildmates, or duel arenas), you will find that they are actually pretty easy to deal with once you become accustomed to how they play. That being said, it takes quite a bit of practice to get to this point and countering them isn’t immediately intuitive if the player behind the keyboard knows their rotations/bursts/comboes well.
If I had to draw a simile: learning to fight DH season 4/season 5 has been like learning to fight against power shatter mesmers pre HoT (and early post-HoT). They’re difficult at first, but with a enough practice you learn how to deal with them and they become a much easier fight.
I’m not just talking about 1v1; learning how to deal with them will help you in team fights as well. As for multiple DHs synergizing too well together: That’s a class-stacking problem. There is no reason to nerf DHs just because they perform well when stacked.

Alot of classes can defeat the DH, DH trapper only works with power creep momments, DH f3 even if they have stability is super easy to counter… since every ground skill is aoe(360º) it will hit the DH.

You probably play DH yourself or some other faceroll bunker build
i play both a druid trapper and a DH trapper (in unranked, i don’t feel either are wanted in ranked) and i have to say the ranger is sooo much deadlier than the DH,
i’ve actually had someone whisper me after a match to ask what build i was using to make their health melt from 100 to 0 in moments.
thats not to say DK traps are weak, if you spec full damage you can oneshot people without doing anything, but other than the traps the DH can’t really do much.
the ranger is still a druid (and we all know the amount of QQ surrounding druids :P)
Since i play dh and necro i can say this: i have no sympathy for thfs whining about dh. Fighting thfs is the height of frustration as a necro. At least if i play power necro i can handle a dh but thf is just awful.
I play mes less frequently but i don’t see why anyone would care about them being slaughtered by dh when they drive circles around power revs. Hell, there’s a thread on the front page whining about condi mes right now.

To be honest, I’ve been smashing the kitten out of DHs with an A/A-Longbow base warrior build. Gotten fairly efficient at it too. I think part of it is attributed to people not expecting the build, but not entirely. What I’ve learned in the last 20 some odd games is that you can’t win the attrition war with DHs. If you’re playing a chip ‘em down build, you’ll never kill them 1v1. The sustain and blocks will prevent you from doing any lasting damage. So, either start teaming up on them or pick yourself up a build that can burst between blocks or provide such constant pressure that they blow CDs early and die from staying too long or have to run. I agree (mostly) with the thread regardless, DHs have way too much staying power and self sustain. kitten forbid if the class is stacked.

Well druids can do too many things overall. Have damage, can bunker, can support allies, have mobility, can win 1v1’s,pet, can play kite+ LOS game with heals while pet doing the job. Its one of the win win easy mode class of GW2 by default if we compare it to necro hybrid damage, a lil bit of control and boon corruption anyone not blind can see it.

For getting rid of dh on warrior i run rifle, mace/shield and take signet of might. Go into berserk mode and spam unblockable gun flames on them. Pretty funny sight.

If you can’t beat them you have nothing to do in PvP to begin with.

This. I’ve just come from playing against a stack of 2 DH, S eles and a war. At the moment, I rabidly hate DH. I’ll get over it, but stacking is a huge issue.
Enjoy the aids of season 5 if DH dosent get nerfed. A bunch of scrubs standing still and spamming aoe damage. Im just gonna play Dh aswell I dont care. If you cant beat them join them. When there will be 4+ Dh on each team maybe anet will do something
Remember to mention in map chat that you are a dh hater that is just jumping in the dh bandwagon during the match.
Those kind of dh are even easier to focus down than a necro. I love them!
DH is strong in the hands of an experienced player who knows how to time skills and not just spam everything in a few seconds like 50% of the DHs I encountered.
But thats not an issue. This is just another thread filled with complaints by people who never made it past ruby, getting rekt by full trap-fractal builds. Well the new PVE-AI allows mobs to dodge out of AOEs. Mobs are literally outplaying DH now, so you should be able to do it too…

This is a problem in S4. Also will happen in S5. The balance patch can’t easy to fix it. It also like condition stacking and boon spam problem. They came from design, not balance. This a irresponsible design and a fail teaching material for game designer.

Yup not sure whats the point of playing another season with 4 Dhs per team eevery game. PvP will remain garbage until something gets done about this class and condi mes aswell
The meme in combination with the OP is why balance should never be based on the majoritty or average joes of the pvp community. This entire meme pic make no sense whatsoever. the fact that the the phrase;; GW2 is a point fight game’’ is used as justification for dh trapper bieng op shows the lack of understanding of the class.
As if u are just forced to fight perma on point the entire time. as if u can’t just dodge, go out of LOS, outrotate just to name a few.. As if the dragonhunter just bombards the point 24/7 with no opening whatsoever. and the medi trapper has only 1 offensive traps maby 2 if u include dragonsmaw for a bit hit against thier sustain the fact that the op says that trapper loses to no class whatsoever shows exactly that. Yet at that same u have people disagreeing here. which make sense if include the ‘’majority of the playerbase, u will have tons of varrying opinons. But having varrying opinons isn’t bad per se. what makes it bad is that they still improve. and those newer players become decent or better and will completely change thier stance while the damage has already been done and thus the cycle repeats itself. Those players who now know how to fight dragonhunters will now be the one that argue that the class isn’t as bad. Big generalisations of a class and alike is what hurts the game. What is needed is a better initative not just from ESL players or good players that itchiwen suggested which is a good thing. No rather the developers need to create ample tutorioals and not just hide behind,metabattle,qqmore,youtube and twitch. those outdated npc’s need to be gone. u’d be better dropping them all behind rocks. Because people go in figthing a normal meditation guardian then get nuked on point by a completely different build the only thing in common bieng the guardian icon. having initatives like itchiwn proposes in combination with some actuall help would close the gap between the several tiers of players within the community. even if the majority is still average. U can atleast Ensure that the basics are known to everybody. Heck and it’s not that I understand at all. I in return have a class where i struggle against generally a bit. that is. Revenant. But i’m not going to call for nerfs because i lose.
This is not the way to go.
In the end dh is strong against bad players…who should improve rather than ask for nerf.
Once they will have improved they will realize dh is weak
