April's State of the Game w/ Karl and Sharp!
I like all the complaints about frenzy, when haste on thief is a joke.
I can’t believe people still get exicted about these stupid things. They are dreadful.
Is there any chance at all that you can improve the current salvaging system?
My wrist hurts ;_;
1001% AGREEE!!!!
They should allow us to waste PvP items on Mystic Forge or at least add a PvP Merchant where you can just trash them!!
I want dyes >.>! Most rewarding thing from chest!

I will be tuning in. Thanks to the devs for keeping up with this.
Since the topic of balance between classes will ultimately be discussed, if it goes like last time and each class is going to be addressed individually, make sure that each class is talked about equally.
As community members who have the opportunity to speak to devs, while there are time constraints, remember that you are representing the community, so there should not be any “moving on in the interest of time” for profession talk, as lots (I don’t want to to speak for everybody, so correct me if my educated guess is wrong) of people watch to get an idea of how the devs see their class(es) and if they should lookout for any incoming changes.
The other parts of the conversation will most logically consist of mechanics and future content. With those types of things, there needs to be a concise discussion. Community members who are speaking; you guys have done well in the past. Devs; please try to be more concise.
Not to be confused with being less informative, but for instance, if we are talking about leaderboards. Please don’t explain what leaderboards are and what the purpose is. Explain how things work and whether there would be any changes or additional things added. People are streaming this from a computer, they can google what leaderboards are and what their purpose is, but they can’t get inside a dev’s head and figure out their intentions for the game.
That’s just an example and that could just be a personal thing. But generally a when/where/why should be all that is needed unless there is something mentioned that actually needs some defining.

I seem to be missing my invite.
Also if theres any major changes like a universal haste adjustement. please let us know, if at all possible.
i want the devs to come to this SotG with 2 things:
a) the same level of preparation that the player side brings to the discussion.
b) a list of things that you CAN talk about, that can infuse the community with some positive energy.
a good example was the discussion surrounding spectator mode last month—even when they couldn’t give dates, they talked about specific features already completed or actively being worked on wrt spectator & what we could expect. we don’t need dates, just UPdates.

The elephant in the room right there.
What the hells the point of a SoTG when the largest balance change since the game was released wasn’t even hinted upon, let alone adequately discussed, when there were 3 devs who knew kitten well what was gonna happen.
Honestly, I really, really don’t get why they wouldn’t just tell us.
@$20 an hour! It’s worth it!
they were unprepared. and they also hinted at things such a MUG/Shatter balance, which did not end up happening while at the same time boosting subjects such as “we just had an engineer’s turret meeting”! , “there are a lot of notes” which at the end turned all this hipe into grief once the real update came out..

Simple answer, red tape. Their hands are tied.
They’re people, just like us. People with jobs. People with bosses. What other possible reason could they have to sit on knowledge like that?

yea, but for the love of god. AT LEAST off-handedly mention “yea, we’re also considering a nerf to quickness because we believe it’s too strong in its current form”
That was a pretty huge misstep IMO.

It is quiet possible that they were still on the fence about the change at the time, or that it wasn’t something they were considering at that point; there are a lot of factors that are hard to take into account in that sort of situation.

Questions :
1) Back when QPs were removed they mentioned something about rewards for the top people. The QP leaderboard was removed , but no rewards. Any hints, info or plans for this?
2) Adding incentive to tPVP ? Gems were removed and that was it. You may argue that fun is the reward, but how about making it a bit more fun ?
3) Custom arenas cost – we all know that custom arenas will be sold on gems . Many of the tPVP players don’t have a lvl 80 character to farm gold with. You can expect a serious backlash if PVP players don’t have a way of getting custom arenas without the use of a Credit Card or forcing them to go out of the environment they love and know – sPVP/tPVP. Are you doing anything to prevent this backlash ?
4) Build Diversity – i know it has been asked and re-asked before. It needs to be asked again and reminded that it is killing a lot of the fun for teams. Very small poolset – you already know the team just by looking at the classes.
These State of the Game discussions are a great idea, the problem is having the developers consistently appear as guests.
They are only allowed to say so much, but that doesn’t mesh with the playerbase, and for a good reason, we all want to know what they are changing (good and the bad) with our beloved game. We want a singular flow of information, from them to us, unfiltered.
Bottom line is, our expectations are too high.
They want to be able to just tell us all of their ideas, they simply cannot. More than likely it is company policy or some such nonsense, but the fact of the matter is, each SOTG featuring developer guests has left nothing but a sour taste in everyone’s mouth, especially after patch day.
“Why didn’t they say…X”
“What happened with Y, they said Z during the sotg!”
Just stop. Stop inviting them to the sotg. They are not in the position to provide us with the level of feedback that we expect, and it just leaves everyone mad. We speculate until we are blue in the face, we call each other names, we call the devs names.
Just stop. Let this whole situation cool off for a while, bring them back in 2-3 months.

SotG seems to be still a growing concept that can evolve, this month’s SoTG will be held on the 26th, the same day monthly updates usually take place. If they go on the show and talk about the actual updates of that day, give a reason as to why that’s being nerfed, what’s new? talk about their vision of where each class and where it’s headed, as well as taking collected feedback from the players would be something amazing for the game!
hopefully that’s where they are headed! :]
(edited by google.3709)
I understand that the devs who appear on the sotg are not the ones making the decisions as to what they can and cant say. Im asking them to campaign for at least( as ostrich said) a roundabout way to indicate general changes.
If they cant, they cant I don’t blame them. But I think its not a good strategy to be so completely silent about major changes. Not least because our reactions to said changes will be more moderate. Most people felt haste nerf was fine, and where just upset with its disparate impact on the warrior. we didn’t need to know what was being done to haste, but it would have been nice to know SOMETHING was being done with haste.

Having it done on patch day is a great idea, here’s hoping the patch comes out that day.
Will Sotg then become Sotp (state of the patch) because of the devs lack of communication? If thats the way this thing evolves, then so be it. But consider this; What happens when someone asks a question outside the scope of the devs immediate level of acceptable transparency? Confusion, resentment, and a lot of eyeball rolling from the players.
We can see everyone’s face during the discussions, and that includes when they recognize a political answer from the devs. Their faces are painted with the pressing questions that would knowingly set the devs on their heels, and put them into vapor lock.
The devs do not ever want to have to say (and will never say), “Our superiors wont let us answer that” and the players have yet to push them that far. I hope they never get pushed that far, as that would discourage them from returning to future discussions.
Currently, the devs are quite adept at either not answering questions entirely, or steering the conversation towards something they can talk about.
It would be really interesting to get the developers view on new modes for the game, so I would appreciate if you could ask:
- Are there any new pvp modes planned for gw2 (just the basic ones that a lot of other mmorpgs have: arena 2×2, 3×3, CTF, TDM, etc.)?
Arguments why this is important in my opinion:
- Modes with less people required would make it a lot more fun for players that do not have additional 4 members to play
- It would probably increase the pvp community
- It may create build variety just because people will not be required to stand in points for victory
Also for those people who think that custom arenas will fill mode void: I have to disagree, these arenas will have only modifications on the same conquest mode (like more/less points for capture or kills, different amount of points to achieve victory, etc.) so it will not really be a new mode with different gameplay.

This is about everything that comes to my mind.
—> Can we have a laurel vendor/bank in hotm?
—> Is glory rewarding going to be changed to incentivize winning/playing the ‘right’ way. (specifically in hotjoin)
—> Solo/team queue (Everyone want a clear answer on this one)
—> New glory spending ways (Fun stuff pls! We pvp’ers like fun stuff too)
—> New stuff added to chest (I’m always happy to see a unid dye pop up, pls add more stuff like that to the chests)
—> Are dailies/monthlies/yearlies still planned? If so, please add fun rewards too these too.
—> Ingame acces to leaderboards, pls!
—> More info on leaderboards coming? Guild tags, pvp info (wins/losses, classes, etc.), rating, etc.
—> Let us salvage like in pve, pls! So we don’t have to reclick the kit all the time.
—> Templates still planned? Imho needed to incentivize build-making/diversifying. (There’s a lot of lazy people, like me who don’t like switching manually :p)
Any chance on a rough timeline? Probably most of these are planned, but can we see these in the foreseeable future?
Edit: Forgot one thing. I would like to be able to queue through the UI (pvp panel). It’s more for other people, people who aren’t so into pvp but it would still be nice.
Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!
Throw out: Hotjoin!

hey
i dont know if that questions already been asked or if its ok to ask that in the stotg:
how come that several players were able to create own leaderboard pages with searches and graphs etc in just a few hours/days in their freetime while ANET still havent added simple funcitons likie this?
Do they appreciate the game having a strong pve aspect that allows them to be employed and still do absolutely nothing towards class/build diversity 8 months after release?
@player guests HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Is there any chance at all that you can improve the current salvaging system?
My wrist hurts ;_;
i stopped salavaging xDDD
Honestly the best way for them to introduce alternative game modes is through custom arenas. so they can get feedback, like do players really like it , or only theoretically like it. And what if any are the balance issues.
Given the issues with balancing round 1 game mode, I think at the end of the day only 1 can remain official, and that’s likely to still be conquest.
Thanks for organizing the SOTG.
(Though I doubt it will help or change something)

Buff banners some more please. I need a good third utility now that Frenzy is kill me.
I think +300 stats would be awesome
Hey folks,
Quick update.
As you know we’ll be joined by JSharp and Karl on the next SOTG. However, they won’t be sticking around for the entire show. They’ll mostly be popping in to give us some updates on balance that are coming in the April patch and then some possible design goals for the coming months. At some point they’ll take their leave and we’ll have a focused roundtable discussion with our player guests.
Best of both worlds, right?
Anyhow, thanks for the ongoing feedback. I do take a lot of the suggestions into consideration, even from you grumpy buggers.

Blanket balanceing everyone hates it, why do devs keep doing it, by its vary natcher pvp will never be the same game as pve. Whats importent is that it still feels like GW2 not that the skills are exactly the same.
If you keep blanket balancing a class like the warrior it will never work. Make him stronger in PvP he becaums more OP in PVE, make it weeker in PVE he becaums more usless in PVP.
TThe only way to fix this is focus less on if the skills are exactly the same and more on if the class still feels right after spliting for pvp/pve.

Warriors are powerful in PvE because they do a lot of damage. Warriors in PvP do fine damage on static enemies.
You can buff warriors in PvP while having zero impact of PvE balance.
The PvE meta is as terrible as the PvP meta btw. It’s basically stack glass cannons and and zerg everything down. Great game ArenaNet.

Sept zerging doesn’t really work well Agnes a team of more bunkers at high level play……
Infrastructure question:
We have seen a lot of success with free-to-play games lately. League of Legends is the largest and most successful e-sport game right now, for example. This is due to the game being more accessible to the casual gaming population. Even though it’s free-to-play, wherever there is a crowd, there is money.
What if the Heart of the Mists was made into an online downloadable free-to-play segment of the game? In order to leave the Mists, you must purchase the game. Do you see potential in this as a marketing strategy for GW2?
Balance question:
Are you aware that slows in this game not only affect regular movement, but also reduce the range of moving abilities by -50%? This makes slows much more potent than they should be. Thief’s heartseeker is affected, Warrior’s Rush, Bull’s Charge, Whirlwind, Eviscerate, etc are all affected. At the same time, some class’s moving abilities are immune to slows, like Elementalist’s Ride the Ligntning. What are the devs’ thought process behind this mechanic?
Warrior:
I noticed that a lot of effort has been put into beefing up banners. Are you aware that the #2 healing skill from Banner of Tactics heals for only 500 HP? The skill description says it should heal for almost 4k HP, but in actuality it only heals a measly 500 HP. Intended? Also, there were no changes to the Battle Standard elite. Thoughts on that?
Have never considered having this as an aspect of the game but it should definitely be considered by Anet. I don’t think they were thinking the PvP in this game has gotten to this state in which it is failing badly and needs a huge boost, but giving away a big chunk of this game for free would be tough and how would it affect the players who paid for only this feature and don’t care about the PvE? Maybe this could be the calling to revive it but its not the fix we need at the moment, what they need to do is attract the casuals who play currently and the only way to do that is make the entry level of the pvp easy. Have queues for ranked play and normal play like LoL, Have normal mode where you queue with 4 others or solo queue and get matched with others to play against bots for practice. Make this PvP both competitive and fun for those who aren’t. LoL has succeeded so well with just this mindset.
Is there a reason these discussions always have to focus on sPvP? Why can’t we discuss the issues plaguing the rest of the game? Things like how WvW is nothing but a ring-around-the-rosey zerg fest and the WvW map doesn’t lend itself to anything but this? What about how the game as a whole is still lacking in any real end-game options other than WvW and sPvP? Why not discuss where the other game modes are? What about how the problems with sPvP are now becoming prevelent in WvW where classes are limited in spec and option due to zerging being the only real option. What ever happened to the AE discussion? do the devs have any input on removing the AE cap vs just making the harmful cap 10 and the beneficial cap 5?
I mean class balance is great, but the last episode was a complete waste of time because the classes I paly (Warrior and Ranger) took up like 30 seconds between the 2 of them. Now that I have a thief added to the mix, will we have 5mins devoted to thief Q&A again? I certainly hope not.
I realize the people hosting this thing only sPvP, but that makes up such a small part of the game that so few people actually play. The only reason the non-sPvP players watch these things is insite on class changes, and we’ve been let down month after month in these videos because we only talk about 2 classes in detail.
When will we see custom arenas?
When will they separate Soloques from Premades?
Will they introduce Tier and League System like other MMOs?
Will they reset rating once everything is in place?
Will they introduce more builds to counter typical cheesy team comps?
Have they got plans to stop players from always needing two bunkers in SPvP?
Are we going to see a boost in melee classes since things are starting to get out of control with ranged ones?
Done.
I realize the people hosting this thing only sPvP, but that makes up such a small part of the game that so few people actually play.

TBH I really think this is ideal. That way there is no pressure to talk to the devs for an extended period of time when they obviously can’t/won’t go into too great of detail for any number of reasons, and the players can discuss more openly how they feel about stuff between each other rather than taking turns with the devs.

The point of the show is to be an spvp forum of discussion. It was never intended to be “all guild wars state of the game,” only “spvp guild wars state of the game.” No point in complaining about that. There are other podcasts for pve

I know where you’re coming from Larynx, but warriors don’t do fine in pvp overall. It’s a useless filler profession in that field and not much weapon choices to choose from. I really hope Jonathan Sharp and Karl really gives some info on what they want to do with that class than singing the same old poem. I like playing my warrior, but I hate the profession being the fill in slot role for pvp. A bunker warrior can’t kill a bunker ranger or take on 2 players at a time. It’s either stay and die or run to another safe node that’s empty. It’s frustration to those who play this profession in pvp unless that’s what Jonathan Sharp and Karl like to see Frustrated warrior players. Then you know warriors won’t get any good buffs because they would be unstoppable so they say.
As they say action speaks louder than words. The audience watches for the next reasonable build and if it’s still not good probably more would leave the game until they decide to drop the carrot on the stick act.
I know I put out some negative a bit, but come on already get with the program and make this profession viable in all ways instead of limited.
