Are Anet aware that the solo q matchmaking system appears to work as a lazy copy and paste of the team Q system?
This is how is appears to work in practice:
1, You queue and it matches you in a roster of similar ranked people
2, Your roster then enters the matchmaking system
3, You are matched with the closest roster who has a similar rating
What this results in:
1, At low population times you get very unbalanced matches frequently pitting teams of all 100-200 rating vs a team of 1500-2000 rating
2, Syncing is easy and works almost always
What it should do:
1, You queue and are matched with 9 other people of as similar rating as possible
2, Those 10 people are divided into two teams of 5 – based on equal ratings for each team
3, This would stop syncing and unbalanced matches
Why it is broken?:
1, IMO the system is broken because anet couldn’t be bothered to design a solo q matchmaking system from scratch. So after creating rosters they just copy and pasted the team q matchmaking system over and called it job done.
Leaderboards are also broken:
1, The decay isn’t permanent so people who played ages ago can play again and get to rank 1 easily.
2, This is a problem because the ratings creep downwards over time it seems, so if you actively play your rating cannot be as high as an afker
3, This doesnt reward playing at all, which is counter productive to the game.
4, So the leaderboards are broken and a joke too. There is also no reset meaning they lose more significance.
So, my question:
Why would Anet put in features which are broken and don’t work possilby, and then not say the features are broken or even work to fix them?
I don’t mind waiting for things to come in. I am sure all resonable people understand this. But to add broken things and then never fix them….well I would rather they didn’t even bother tbh

Yup, that’s exactly how it works.
Pretty sure at least someone at Anet knows its broke. Its a business, they go where the bacon is at. PVE/WvW is where the bacon is atm, probably 99% of the population is there. Content is cheaper to produce, easier, faster and yield higher profit. Messing with PVP mechanics and systems requires actual thinking and designing, but yield lower profits.
Who would have thought, that such a system could be broken with such a low population /facepalm

Every time is low population time. I play during Primetime and queue into the same 4-5 people and almost half the time it is 5v4 and queue still takes like 5-8 minutes.

if you make mixed teams, both teams will have good players and bad players, regardless of low/high population
as it works now, one team will have all the better players, and the other team all the worse ones <— this issue will be made even more bad with a low population

if you make mixed teams, both teams will have good players and bad players, regardless of low/high population
as it works now, one team will have all the better players, and the other team all the worse ones <— this issue will be made even more bad with a low population

Matchmaking and Leaderboards are the two issues that are going to drive me from the game soon if they aren’t addressed You are right that low population should not be that big of a problem if the roster system wasn’t so lame as currently constituted. As you said 10 people should be selected and parcelled out between two teams as even as possible according to rating. What A-net did is what is called taking the easy way out doing as little work as possible by just copying over how team queue works.

People can also take advantage of this flaw as a reliable means of SYNC queuing together. Also the reason why some get accused of SYNCing but they really didnt, just the system grouping them together alot.
When solo q first came out and weeks after that high rating only played high rating…. as the population nose dived rating top 100 can play sub 1000 players.
Issue is population system cant work if no on is playing.

Since you’re rewarded for not playing, you simply do not play.
I bet Azshene is still in top 20 with his 100% win rate on 14 matches without even looking at the leaderboard, AMIRITE ?

lol – amazing but yes you are correct
The population issue is not created by leaderboard design, its created by still pushing conquest mode over a year after release.
Its not that the majority of leaderboard players are avoiding playing because they dont want to lose their rating…. its that people just are not playing conquest seriously its a casual spvp mode, conquest never works long term for real PvPers.

Another thing. Solo queue has no reason to be taken seriously. I go into solo queue to test build because if i go into hot join ill die of cancer. Maybe have some special rewards for being high on leaderboards. I mean after all the pvp progression in this game is hey i look cool! It doesn’t take a kittening genius to give incentive to play. Hmm special cool gear for those in the top 100 then cooler gear for those in the top 50 then the coolest gear for the top 10? That makes leaderboards actually mean something! Because currently when someone says they are high up on the leaderboards how many of you give a kitten? But in order to implement this it would actually mean anet has to care about this game and its pvp community so lets ask the MAGIC ARENA NET 8 BALL OF GW2 and the answer is!!!!! Vague and promising but means never gunna happen.
I guess they aren’t aware. You can throw in their joke of a dishonored system too. Way too forgiving to the point I think they only added it to trick us into thinking they are addressing the issues.
Recently I have noticed a ceiling in where I can get to in solo q. As soon as I get to around rank 40, I then Q and get put with rank 80% people vs rank 1000 ish people. We usually lose or just win. If I lose, then I lose maybe 40 ranks. If I win I gain 1 rank or 2 maybe.
I think the problem is people higher up dont play (except if you play at very peak times), so when you go higher you get shafted
