Are Revenants PVP viable
Yes they are viable, they are just less faceroll and lost less build diversity.

to go into more detail revenant is the class with something for almost any situation. learn to use all the skills well and manage energy with cooldowns and youll do great
Indeed they are ! I had really fun playing my revenant, using facet of.. something, that reveals stealth is amazing.
We will know for sure after 6th but I don’t think that proleague tier players show any crazy new builds. For now it’s seems it’s still top meta tier.

tl;dr: yes, Rev is still viable, even in Condi, but it is probably not meta anymore as it has too many counters now.

Revenants are in a somehow tough spot since the last balance patch as one important retribution trait AND the Shiro Heal got nerfed. On the basis of this, two observations can be made: a) Stability now requires skill and sometimes a little luck, b) one major damage combo of Power Rev has been nerfed and requires better timing → more skill. Still, Power Rev – especially running invocation over retribution – is pretty viable against most of the classes running. The damage is still ridiculous and may be important burst damage in team fights. Also, Invocation offers some defensive capabilities now needed as Stability from Unwavering Avoidance is not guaranteed anymore. I sometimes also play Mallyx over Shiro as Boon Corruption, Resistance and a better heal work sometimes better than Shiro’s CC Elite, additional mobility and better burst damage. But that depends on the team’s compositions and personal preferences.
The obvious counters (Mesmer Condi Shatter, Guardians, well played Berzerk Warriors, sometimes boon corruption Necros) are still issues and will probably be longer. Additionally, since nerf of Unwavering Avoidance, Thiefs are really contagious now for Revenants.
But except for guardians, the counters can be handled by playing a variation of the old Condition Revenant, since so many people ignore Torment and Confusion. Right now I’m playing same traits as before with Mallyx/Herald combined Mace/Axe and Staff and its pretty fun out there. This combinations ensures incredibly high survivability and good condi burst against any class except for guardians since they can block nearly any attack – even if facerolling. Obvious counters: High Boon Corruption and chain cc. Still, I feel more comfortable with this build than with Power Rev. Also, it is a little harder to play than a Power Rev as it requires better energy management.
Conclusion: Power Revenant with Invocation over Retribution is still viable, but requires more concentration and less faceroll. Running Retribution costs a secured condition remove every 10 seconds which is really important now and just delivers a skillful stability boon. Condition Revenant seems more viable than expected and has fewer counters, but is harder to play and requires a high focus on defensive capabilities over big damage.
Yes, Revenant is still meta. They have just too much damage to pass by in pro League.
Thanks everyone for your replies, I can see that the common trend is that they are high damage high skill ceiling type class. However they have counters which are possible but difficult to work around. I just want to ask whether its better for me to switch to another class thats easier to play. As I mentioned I’m very new to the game and the revenant class seemed like a great looking class but I might be out of my depth, any suggestion for good starter characters?
Druid is probably the easiest I can think of for new players to get into due to their survival. Only takes a few fight to know when to use what skill and your main damage is from pet. However, it gets really boring after a while and people who are experienced in fighting druid (and not running condi) will quickly overcome you.
Alternatively, if you’re facing new players majority of time, running DH will give you easy profits. Again if you’re facing those who are experienced in fighting DH, there’s little you can do but to up your game and grow out of that noob stomping build.
Didn’t they get a damage buff, for the loss of boon duration

Warrior is commonly the easiest class to pick up for any gamemode, and they are strong in all of them, so…

No.

Good starter classes are warrior and guardian. I would sugest a power warrior to learn.
I started as ele and don´t regret that. While an ele gets most out of the class by rotating four elements, you can build it to mostly camp fire (staff) or earth, which allows to focus on moving and positioning to learn. An earth camping ele is a hard nut. Won´t kill a decent player but also won´t be blown up in seconds (unless you ignore the condi bomb and wonder why you are down …). And with that base you can slowly get better and learn more and more skills to use effectively.
Regardless what you pick, you need to train it so just take what you like most.

It is not only viable but also the best offensive carry if you play well.
The downside is it does have a much higher skill floor compared to most other classes.
It is viable, but strongly reliant your team mates now more than ever. You won’t carry a team, but you provide strong support through Glint and provides strong power burst damage. Stay away from trying to solo and you should be good.
In my opinion and experience, Revs are very PvP viable. It’s not about meta though, but build, play-style, and skill. If your play-style/skill doesn’t mesh well with a build, then it’ll play poorly. I don’t run the meta – to be honest I don’t even know what it is. I run builds that I develop through lots of trial and error that work well with my play-style and skill. Even the latest “nerf” hasn’t hurt my build.
Against condi? no they will die in seconds; against everything else? sure.
They are ok. Be careful with condi and know your role.
Rev is like the old warrior. You need to rely on your team to provide you:
healing
stab
condi removal
In other words hes horrible for solo play.
