Q:
Are pvpers suppose to be broke?
The ’’real’’ PvPers are rich, if you watch sizer stream he has thousands of gold and plenty of legendaries. Its only the top tier PvPers that are rich.
Its still unfair because a PvP player has to be top tier to earn gold while a PvE scrub can just zerg down few bosses or dungeons and make more money.
The problem is not about money but the skill required to earn gold is too high compared to PvE.
It’s funny because someone just posted a thread on the WvW forums asking why we aren’t rewarded as well as you are.
I mean you have easy access to skill point scrolls, leveling tomes, awesome finishers that require little more than a grind, unique armor for nothing more than a grind, easy access to dungeon armor that PvErs need to run numerous times to get a single piece, etc etc etc.
From the outside looking in, it would appear far too much effort is spent appeasing the PvP players over the WvWers.
Perhaps they should remove all of this, award Badges of Honor for PvP play just like it’s awarded for WvW play and turn those badges into a legitimate currency that could then be exchanged for:
10 badges == skill point scroll.
100 badges == leveling book.
1000 badges == PvE/PvP armor piece.
etc etc etc.
15 silver for a win plus the mats and drops (sometimes exotic and rare) quickly adds up if you play a lot. I had 100 gold without noticing it because I had too much fun smashing skulls in PvP for an entire week! After all, we play PvP to challenge ourself, not to earn gold, right?
It’s sad, I agree. 15 silver for about 15 minutes time is hardly anything. I can go run a dungeon or kill some random mobs in cursed shore and get a t6 mat to sell for 40s within 5 minutes even without a high magic find. Maybe it’s time to add a reward track based around gold or items that sell decently by sacrificing the level up tomes or something of that nature. I for one would be in favor of that seeing as I have two gifts of fortune sitting in my bank from PvP tournaments but nowhere near the gold I need to buy a precursor because I don’t PvE as I find it nowhere near as enjoyable as PvP.

Sure we have tracks that allows us to get unique skins, tomes of knowledge, and skill point scrolls, but we didn’t get all this until after April 15th Patch.
Those finishers? Shark, Phoenix, and Dragon? Cool that we can get them now, but relatively too easy to get now, and don’t mean too much anymore compared to pre-patch April 15th that everyone who earned Rank 60-70 had to endure.
The dungeon tracks only award one armor dungeon piece per track, and to be honest doing dungeons I could get each dungeon armor piece faster than a dungeon track.
15 silver compared to 1 gold isn’t much. The limit to what we can get in HJ is 5 silver, and 15 gold for solo/team arena. But we don’t even hit max, because you would have to play so much. I could do a dungeon tour, and net around 50g or more for about the same time I spent in sPvP.
As for putting Badges of Honor as a currency into sPvP, no leave that in WvW. We once had a currency and that was Glory which was once used to purchase 20 slot bags and other various things, but we don’t have that anymore.
I agree that they could add Tomes, Skill Point Scrolls, and other things as rewards in exchange for badges for WvW.
As for appeasement, WvW updates/PvE had more things given to them compared to sPvP players, and even with these changes. PvE/WvW players still make more than any sPvP player.
Even for WvW you need to PvE a little bit for gear. sPvP players now get skill points, tomes, and some gear, but that is just another way to get an Level 80 Character, and only really for PvE/WvW.

The need to add more tracks that reward bags, WvW tracks and so on. But I think that the reward tracks are good. Yes, we don’t get as much as doing the dungeon or killing the boss, but we are fighting players, not running the same dungeon over and over again to get those skins. I play PvP to challenge myself and get better at my profession. Getting skins and all that other stuff is just a bonus. The gold stack up pretty fast too if you are active.
What exactly would I spend gold on? I get everything I need for PvP, through PvP. The rewards are fine.

Just think of PvP’ers as people in the military, they get paid, its not crazy amazing and its not dirt poor either. As a PvE’er you can get crazy rich, but as a PvP’er you can get your name etched in stone and talked about throughout the lands of Tyria.
Just like Vanderbilt, a PvE’er, accumulating 100 million over a hundred years ago (1.5 trillion worth today) (others include Bill Gates, Henry Ford as PvE’ers), and I would consider people like Adolf Hitler, Napolean, Alexander the Great PvP’ers.

Wait what? Elite pvp`ers care about ingame currency? what are we now, gold hoarding site slaving fellow player vs player gamers cos pve is more rewarding irl? instead of hooking them to enlarge the small population of your community.
Played this game for a better pvp (learning from eac other). i thought people in gw2 pvp community were bunch of bloodthirsthy, despite how few the community population is. it was disappointing.

I don’t pve at all (Not even zerg vs zerg) and i have 8 chars at 80 in first account 5 chars 80 in second account and 3 80 in third + more than 200 tomes AND skillpoints scrolls in storage and can’t do kitten with them. Just let us sell those craps on tp at least…i don’t need pve levels in pvp let alone hundreds of account bounded tomes that i will never been able to use after I leveled up everything I have (For no reason anyway)
And tons of crap from chest too only good to fill your inventory up once you start opening them…i’d rather get gold only (Even less than all this kitten worth) but not having to spend 10 minutes/day opening chests and selling or destroying stuff…stop forcing ppl playing pvp to go pve in order to give our rewards some sense…right now it’s just a waste of time we don’t even have a kittening bank and tp there so just stop giving us stuff we can’t do kitten with in pvp
Btw i can give you all my tomes, pve levels, skillpoints and all your pve kitten back just for getting skyhammer removed from soloq and a decent leaderboard system…it would be a great deal for me….and maybe old ranks back when everyone wasn’t free r80…

Just what I was about to say. You need money for better gear, crafting, food etc. In PvP none of these are needed because you already have all the gear you need over in the mists.

Yeah the inflation is worrying, but the solution there is curbing dungeon rewards rather than boosting other rewards! That would just increase inflation more.

I have a poverty-related question, and this thread seems a good fit for it. Perhaps a kind soul could help me.
I have accumulated all sort of PvE craap while doing PvP during these past two years, and some of it is totally obscure to me. For instance, I have quite a few laurels. Is there some way I could turn those into money? Serious question, please don’t hate – I have zero clue whether this stuff is of any value. Why Anet keeps pushing PvE stuff as a PvP reward escapes me. I won’t suddenly convert to a PvE’er, that’s for sure.

He is of course not talking about those who have reached a comfortable, or should I say, top level of PvP – he is talking in relation to “lower tiered” in which it is not surprising the goldincome is scarce as to compared to what time you put into PvE…
However, you got a valid point; get yourself to your level and you will find that PvP can reward you way more than anything in the game can… This however does require time and dedication – it is a choice, as simple as that…
I am fairly content with the gold I gain, despite having had my portion of PvE… If I am in dire need of gold, I salavage the gear I got from PvP and sell the materials – this will always net me enough to buy the gemstore items to make me look fancy… Will I get a legendary from this? Not really, but this is not my choice either…

The only MMO I’ve played before that let pvp players make equal or more money than pve players is GW1 and that is one of the reasons I loved it.
Consider the time it takes to complete a dungeon path like AC or CoF, now think how long an average spvp match is and compare those rewards. It shouldn’t be hard to balance pvp rewards especially if you run something similar to dungeon dailies.
We could implement another tab or bake into existing pvp dungeon paths where you activate a dungeon and it gives you the same amount of gold and champ bags upon a win(s) that you would have received normally and those would be daily rewards where you can do every dungeon and the higher reward requires more wins. Time averaged out vs the real dungeon completion. Like 4 or 5 matches would be a path of Arah or something, I don’t really know, haven’t done Arah in ages.
Personally I think the current pvp paths take way too long to complete. I think they should be much shorter with better rewards but make them daily just like doing a dungeon regular.
If something like this was implemented, we would be getting much more raw gold so the bonus of magic find working on chests could be removed in pvp, not that MF really matters though imo lol.
To be fair, even in GW1 things weren’t that rosy for pvpers. You got the Hall of Heroes chests, but GvG players were poor. It was ages before they introduced Zaishen keys etc.
If anyone remembers UO when champ spawns were released it allowed pvpers to compete with the crafters and pvers in terms of wealth, in the cases of the best pvp guilds we were able to make extremely large sums of gold very very quickly with the right drop.

I agree that the top PvPers are rich, well earned. They have spent time in GW2, so they deserve it. I also agree that the lower level of PvP are barely earning money. When I was playing active at a decent level back in the days, PvP wasn’t rewarding. Reason why I stopped it. If I kept playing, guess I could’ve been rich, but at that time it wasn’t worth it since we waited FOREVER to get some decent rewards.

Yes there is.
Skins. Not every skin can be rewarded in PvP, so they have to be bought.
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant
The gold or “wealth” earned in PvP is nothing compared to PvE, this is correct.
Even with the scrolls/tomes from reward tracks, this is simply making up for lack of event XP grind that would otherwise be gained in PvE or WvW “which also grants a large amount of karma gain”.
Now PvP compared to WvW is not a good way to contrast this topic, due to the large variations of: “Was it a good/bad night of PvP”? or “Was it a good/bad night of WvW”?
Your wealth gained in PvP and WvW are too transitional to gauge against each other.
PvE should be setting the standard of: “what a player should be gaining in wealth for his time invested” because it is stable. A dungeon runner who completes 5 to 10 paths a night has a very stable income for his time invested. Let’s even look at higher tier PvE gain such as dungeon runners who solo Arah and then sell paths. Their income is still very stable.
So rather than arguing PvP wealth vs. WvW wealth, we should be comparing both PvP and WvW wealth gained, against PvE. Is it equivalent? If it isn’t equivalent in gold gain, is it at least equivalent in some way in terms of wealth gained?

The current rewards are fine but kind of restrictive.
I do think there should be some PvP venders that reward you based on your rank, but apposed to the old glory method we just use gold and skillpoints, but we get actually good stuff depending on our rank something that puts you further into the economy but still syncs your gold from the economy. like at r80 2g and a few skill points for a box for a random exotic.
sure most of the players can sometimes make 3 gold profit from a box like that (or a lot more on a precursor drop) but not every random PvEr who casually PvPs would have access to that kind of trade off funds.
maybe ascneded crafting matts or t6 matts like the way laurels do it.
Also avg WvW vs avg pvper does get better rewards if you calculate time spent, sure your not getting skill points and tomes but you get karma and actual exp.

you can get money, only if your lucky though. outside of selling mats from track rewards if you by some random chance in oblivion either get a super rare exotic (like infinite light) or a precursor it will make you some money real fast.
though I would appreciate getting more flat cash rather then 500 tons of ascended crafting mats that I can’t sell or use or just drop me some non-account bound mats that I can’t sell or do anything with (like bloodstone dust).
