As a bunker engineer I can’t find anything. My crit is low, therefore any crit-based sigils aren’t very good. My damage is abysmal anyway, therefore damage-based sigils aren’t very good. Stacking sigils take forever to stack and aren’t very good as bunker. No weapon-swapping sigils work for Engineers.

Thoughts?

For the same reasons I’m considering the 60% sigils on crit. Yes: still on crit but at least you might get something.

Removing a boon or a possible condition is a very small chance of doing something helpfull.

The steal health one seems fitting, but 30% chance on a low crit rate… meeeh.

Kimbald the 60% to Remove Boon is exactly what I’ve been using, but I still wish there were something more. I just wish weapon-swapping sigils worked for kits (on a 10-second CD, of course).

You could just use the 30% AOE heal on ability activate. The heal is pretty poor (300ish points IIRC) but depending on how low your crit is it might be better than the 60% remove boon on crit.

we get the short end of the stick on both ends…

weapon swapping sigils don’t work, because we don’t swap ‘weaposn’
but when we use a kit our weapon sigil stops working because… we swapped out our weapon?

I know it’s because it’s technically a ‘bundle’ but that’s not a justification for it, easliy changed I would think.

the thing with that sigil of superior water is that it’s on a 10 sec cooldown.
But at least it’s 30% ‘in general’ and not on crit, so good call but potentially rather weak because of the 10 sec cooldown.

Especially as engineer: we are often using kits so the woindow to get that 10 sec cooldown in, is getting rather small.

I’m tinkering with more defensive builds myself at the moment.
Not sure how good toughness is for us, for example. Should I reach for 2,500 or so? Or is vitality more the thing?

Superior Water is based on skill use, huh? I always figured it was crit and that the tool-tip was bugged and missing the “on critical” text. Better than nothing I guess.

I think toughness is more important. I have around 3k armor and 24k HP. We can reach 29k HP through gearing but you’ll sacrifice a lot of toughness.

More HP is nice for those “procs at % HP” traits and runes, though.

Yes, but that’s true of the on crit sigils too.

The rub of it is no sigils are very useful for an engineer until they let sigils work with kits.

You’re right Yukishiro, the only sigils I consider real good for damage builds that use a lot of kits grenades, flamethrower, etc) are the ones simply adding damage or 5% crit or so.
When you do use a weapon, it at least suddenly becomes stronger without anything having to proc.

Sadly there are no defense multipliers like this for sigils.

Thanks Gilgamesh, I’ll go for the toughness I guess.
Since it’s a more balanced bunker build, I’ll keep my hp ok but sacrifice my crit for it.
Think I’ll end up at 24% crit, which still is ok’ish. But not spectacular.

The water sigil is decent because the proc rate is so high that if you do switch to a weapon you have a decent shot at it proccing within a second or two. I don’t really see the point of +5% damage or crit either in a kit build because you arn’t using the weapons for the damage anyhow typically. Although I guess it would help when you switch to the weapon to use big bomb or barrage for the extra damage. If you’re bunker though I would think even a small heal would probably be better.

Any idea if it only heals your allies, as the tooltip says?
Would be nice if it healed yourself too…

Some tooltips say ‘allies’ when they mean you too (like the heals from bombs as 30 trait, or several elixirs) and some say allies when they mean ‘not you…’.

Testing it now on the profession test npc’, and I don’t see any green number popping up that could this heal.

I use the stacking condition damage for my pistol when I bunker. Sure, my damage is still bad but it’s a more significant increase than a “chance on crit” sigil that will probably never proc a single time in a match, due to low crit and rarely using the weapon.

I still don’t know what to use for the shield, since stacking sigils don’t seem to work in shields. I’m honestly not sure if there’s even one nominally-useful sigil for the shield.

Also remember that the 5% damage only increases the direct damage, not condition damage. So it’s really more of a 1% total damage increase.

No, you would have to swap out of the kit when someone dies, but the point is the bonus will affect you while using a kit.

Use the energy gain on weapon swap, this lets you dodge like 2 times as much making you even more of a bunker since you are totally avoiding huge amounts of damage.

engineers never swap weapons, so the weapon swap sigils simply never work for them.
Swapping out of a kit to your weapon simply doesn’t count as weapon swap.
Stupid, but that’s how it is for now.

I tried using the +15% stun duration sigil in my shield tonight, and I actually really like it. That extra third of a second seems just long enough to scare people. Just gives me that much more satisfaction when I land my shield 5 on someone, and makes supply drop .3 seconds more awesome. Since I’ve never been able to notice any affect at all using any other sigil, this is actually feeling kind of nice.

I use the condition damage on kill and it works fine as long as you remember to swap to your pistol or rifle when you finish someone off (not down but finished). Stacks build up in chunks of 5 so you don´t need an insane amount of kills to get the full 25 stacks up.

The other rune I use is on-weapon swap aoe freeze I think. As far as I know these do work? I must say I have trouble seeing them proc because it is supposedly only when you´re in combat.

Maybe I will just change my second rune out for the %5 damage, at least thats something that should work then.

p.s. I don´t think Teldoos build is the end-point for pd engis or any engi whatsoever, people should tweak their own builds and play what theyre comfortable with.

Bunker is a term referring to a class that “holds” a single point well. Therefore, any class can potentially be a “bunker”. It’s a role of the player, not a term describing the profession.

I played over 400 matches as a guardian, and am now playing Engineer. They are absolutely a fantastic “bunker”, arguably better than an Engineer because of the sheer number of knockbacks and blast finishers they have.

sorry, they simply don’t.
You don’t swap weapons as an engineer, just NEVER.

You use a kit like a bundle it seems, so that’s not a weapon swap.

But at the same time you don’t get the normal sigils working when using a kit, even though you didn’t swap weapons out…

We lose on both ends, because of this ’it’s a bundle’ crap!

I don’t think there is anything directly benefecial to a bunker style Engi, since the main viable one for say, Guardian bunker, w/ Leeching, which applied to weapon swap.

For me, I think the stun duration sigil has a little use for a shield guardian who uses supply drop elite. I usually go with the Elixer elite so I personally am currently running a sigil on shield and pistol, one for poison duration/burn duration, one for bleed duration, to at least help the conditions I’m already stacking with pistol and turrets, but I agree, in general I would like to see one defensive sigil not dependant on crit or weapon swap.
