I think you can get armor by unlocking chests? Can you transmute these to your actual armor?

The only rewards I’ve seen are bags, glory boosts and rabbit finishers which I have no interest in using.

To me it seems there is every reason to WvW and no reason to sPvP, am I wrong?

you were unlucky. really.
when i opne chests i take a lot of duplicates of old armors, i break them all and i never took right now (rank 22), an arcane crystal or sliver.
im unlucky too. keep on playing and you will see your rewards.

Yes you get new “skins” or gear for your character. Just like other MMORPG pvp games.
