Are you a Pro/hardcore PVPer?
there is a competitive scene, but i can see how it would be very hard to get into if you don’t already know people. there’s a guild that highly competitive teams use for sync queuing tournaments against each other. we queue nightly into tournaments that usually include between 4 and 7 of the top teams in the game right now, and making it to the end in a tournament like that, where your round 1 matchup could be the 5th best team right now and if you make it past them you’re up against the 3rd best team etc., is an accomplishment.
just for reference my character on live is Creecher Zzzzzzzzzz[Win] (10 z’s, or use nurt.5401). if you have a serious team and want an invite to the Sync queue/scrim guild feel free to hit me up. i don’t think i have invite powers but i’ll see what i can do.
I run [METH] and we have about 10 or so hardcore and about 30 normal and about 10 casuals.
I would say that most of the hardcore players are satisfied with the current state KNOWING that the ranking system will be implemented eventually. Until then we have fun running comp strats and fun runs in Tpvp.
There is no competitive tpvp , random solo teams running 2 mesmers and 2 bunkers steamroll most “pro guilds”. Most of the “hardcore” ppl left the game in wait for more pvp features. And your in for a long wait for ladders and rankings If paid tournys dont bring nothing but gems as reward im gonna leave it to the casuals too.
Basically I am not willing to wait god knows how long for the updates that this game needs. I’m sorry but I have a competitive itch that needs to be scratched. Unfortunately once I move on from a game I tend to not return unless they really do something impressive.

I logged on to the forums for the first time just because I saw this, the amount of ignorance/bad is unbelievable.
Any guild that’s even half way decent, is in no way shape or form going to get “steamrolled” by a group of pugs because they’re rolling 2mes/2guard, in fact, those are usually the easiest teams to beat, because they’re full of players that are terrible and think using that comp will give them an edge.
lol, at the “hardcore” people that are constantly beating pugs in free tournys. Mad respect to the guys running sync premade Que’s.
My guild suffers from people with RL issues, so i normal only have 3 of us at any givin time to run with, so we are alway running with 2 pugs…now that kitten is competitive, its like going to a gun fight with a knife. Maybe one day we will switch to a more active guild.
@Unicron next your gonna say team clans that run 3 guards are easy to beat aswell , unfortunately if 2-3 ppl que up with half of a decent setup knowing how to portal and assist will beat you. Atm solo que is dreadfull to say the least this game is in desperate need of a matchmaking system which is still not announced, as for the above posters talking about game sync lawl probably gw2ringer ( guessing ) maybe 7 teams with a hardcore mentality which are considered top tier ( not mentioning paradigm , legacy an a few known ones ) in a game with over 2 mil purchases I think says alot about the competitive state this game is in atm.
I quit the game yesterday, i no longer play it.
The game is full of bunkers and OP thiefs and mesmers! then you go and nerf the warrior damage to “Balance” , really to “Balance” the game?
Just run 5 bunkers and you can win the tpvp, any one can do that?
Untill they make 8 vs 8 tourney (not this 5 vs 5 paid tourney) i might come back.

Considering the game is free to play and you can come back at anytime… this seems frivolous.
Well, I wouldnt call our team pro just yet but we (Synthetic Gods) have been sponsored and are sure as hell aiming for ’’pro’’
I bought this game for ONE reason and that was to go pro in it. I trusted Arenanets claims that they’ll make this an esport and I still do, I just wish they took a class on how to manage your community rather than constantly teasing us and keeping us in the dark.
I will admit that it’s frusterating to win 50 games in a row vs pubs and only get a decent matchup once in a blue moon where our focus has already deterioated massively because we are used to messing around and still win. This was enough for some of the super competitive people to go for mists of pandaria. One example is the guild Pokemon Warriors who actually did very well for themselves for a while, beating paradigm etc, they’ve all gone back to WoW simply because they want a ranked mode. Another example is Supersquad, while they havent quit for WoW they’re showing considerable inactivity untill a ranked mode pops up.
As for the balance complaints, learn to play, honestly. It’s so painful reading 8vs8 scrubs kitten in every single thread that elementalists, one of the most universally used proffessions in good teams are ’’underpowered’’ because they lose some 1v1 with their horrible build and play and for some reason thinks that is relevant for any esport at all.
This is not to say that the game is perfectly balanced, portal making mesmer the only close defend option, portal treb, staff ele vs treb are all problems but most of the probs are simply battle of khylo and all its pve elements, on the first two maps there is amazing variety in the choices of setups and strats you can run. The game shouldnt be balanced on noobs egos being bruised because they think them losing a 1v1 means that it either means they’re a inferior player or that the enemy class is op. It’s balanced and is supposed to be balanced around 5vs5 tournament play, where thieves that noobs constantly kitten about arent op and where elementalists and necros are amazing picks that most good teams take on (our team included)
Gah, I guess this is pretty rantish. I’ve been browsing through the forums every now and then due to what I suspect are masochistic traits hidden inside of me and felt like I had to vent against the stupidity I’ve read.

so you play vs good premades roughly 1 out of every 50 tournaments and have 1,000 total tournaments played and 100 losses, so you lose to every good premade you play?
^Exaggerations are a dangerous thing when clever people act cleverly, wp.
Obviously, if you play tournament games you’ll find that you’ll never face 50 pugs in a row c:
If you wanna keep talking about this please do it through private messages, I doubt we are contributing to the thread.

regardless if you have lost 10% of your matches, when majority of those are vs pugs, i wouldnt consider yourself pro unless you lost to the same ~5 teams or so.
Lets be honest probably 70% of your games have been vs pugs since pugs make up the overwhelming majority of people queuing for tournament play. So out of say 300 games vs actual premades you have lost 100, not great stats for a “sponsored pro”

you left because of no iway …
And if so are you still playing?
I quit 3 weeks ago, my expectations must have been too high for release. I honestly expected ladders on release. Without ranking there is no competitiveness for me.
I knew long before release that all the people with those super-high expectations would quit.
Some people seriously thought gw2 was the best thing that happened since electricity.
So of course they get disappointed and quit when everything isn’t perfect. People also tend to forget that gw2 is a brand new game, lot of features to be added.
I myself hadn’t really any expectations, just that it would be as good or better as my old (pay2win) game that I played.
When they day was here I loved this game. I’ve also kind of ruined other games for me because of my high expectations (dota2, swtor..)
As you probably know, they will add rated pvp in the future. I don’t see why people can’t learn to wait a bit. You could try other stuff in the game or learn to master your class even better before they release it.

I am one of those players who used to pvp alot in guild wars 1 Ha/gvg/hb had some really good rankings in all of those. The sad thing about spvp or w.e pvp gw2 has now is the lack of any competition skill or rewards to pursuit. In guild wars 1 we had the emotes world rankings etc making ppl to continue and try reaching the highest rank posible wich that gave respect amongst the comunity. In guild wars 2 rank 80 from glory doesnt indicate skill i can run all the time across the map pressing my space button and still earning glory . Even the build everyone knows IWAY wich was the least demanding build in terms of skill even in higher rankings needed alot more coordination teamplay and skill than any build in guild wars 2 or pvp feature. The thing i miss is that why with so much potentional and knowledge from a 100% pvp game anet brings here this pvp feature heart of the mists wich is a unorganised zergfest combining the worst features of bgs in wow or swotlr. Having to play the same small maps with the same objectives all the time trust me its not fun and without having anything to gain or prove. Its like to imagine guild wars 1 only with Random arenas like hardcore pvpers have no choiche and everyone has to play casualy. Anyway i miss all the ventrilo groups and coordination HA had and GvG and i wish it can be all come bk in a sort of way but i dont think its gonna happen. We are stuck with a single minded pvp with no e-sport competitive or chalenging features its a game with no subscription after all. Doing a mistake in guild wars 1 in a pvp match could cost u the match .. a single mistake in a team formed by 8 ppl could just change the outcome of a game , in guild wars 2 even if u do only mistakes or play even with ur toes nothing is gonna happen u still get ur points:)

It had always been announced for post release.
everyone has a Theif, think he is a hardcore pvp skilled, but is not true
please, ANet nerf the fking Thief finally…. you are losing so many players in PvP
this game will NEVER be a e-Sport game if you dont do something about balance

I am a hardcore fun haver. And right now I am having fun killing noobs. I had no expectations going into this game but what really makes me smile is that I do not have to PvEEEEEEEEEEE to pvPee.
The guy who said you get a good game 1/50 games wasn’t really exaggerating.
The reason (i believe) he has 1k games and 900 wins is because he probably don’t play with his full team 24/7, hard for everyone to always be online.
For example i only have a 70% winrate over 500 games played, but i have never lost a single match when playing with my full team roster (our ele has 85/85 wins, most of them being when we’ve played as a full team).
No, we don’t run 2 bunkers 2 mesmers, we actually rarely run any mesmer at all outside of kyhlo.
If you don’t syncqueue against other good teams you will rarely be matched up against anyone good. You might get the “oh, these guys are pretty skilled individual players but they don’t have good team synergy” every now and then.

Posting to bump/support this post. Anyone who considers themselves part of a decent tPvP team and actually cares to play against good opponents should join Lack Of A Scrim Feature [SYNC] for synchronized tournament queues and whatnot. That said, I really wonder how many will actually rise to this challenge.

I’m still playing and will stay playing, ladders prove nothing to me unless they are constantly reset. I see every match as a reason to compete, a new start you could say, ladders are only there to enlarge people’s E-kittens.
@Reikou: On what server you are making this?
Ladders, rankings, “high end” tournaments and anything else should only be launched after post-release balancing is done. They are utterly worthless imho before the devs have got a chance to both fix the bugs and adjust the general balance based on data gathered post launch. And no, this cannot be done in beta tests (unless its a softlaunch Open Beta), the population of such is typically too small.
Spending the initial post-launch month(s) getting to know the game, mechanics and possibly even helping with the post-launch work probably will help you skyrocket in the “hardcore” sPvP layers once they are ready. Just saying.
No I am not because this isn’t your “hardcore” format it is a casual one.

Pretty spot on.
It really just benefits everyone in general. There’s no point having a ranking system if all you’re gonna see are guardians/mesmers/thieves and the occasional warrior.
Also:
what really makes me smile is that I do not have to PvEEEEEEEEEEE to pvPee.
+1 to pimpslapper. This is really the defining feature that carried over from gw1 that breaks this game away from every other MMO.
Also @ Reikou, i would request to join but i have not a team
Yes I am, just take a break bro and come back when there are ladders. No point complaining, there is no subscription so we can play it when ever we want You can play other great games and when the E-Sport patch for GW2 comes with ladders, you can hop back in the action
