I understand all weapons are normalized in PvP. Does the same hold true for armor ? In other words, does ascended armor hold the small edge in PvP over Exotic armor ? Im sort of new to PvP.

Judging from what I’ve seen, even low level players ( e.g. level 7) are normalized to level 80 and I would guess the same holds true for armor as well. I will hold that assumption until told otherwise.

There is no ascended armor! All armors of the same type have the same stats!

So the higher “defense” stat doesnt matter at all? I figured it did, but the difference was just too miniscule to ever matter.

PvP is normalized on weapons and armor. You can still use,your legendary weapons and ascended armor but won’t gain the benefit of them in PvP.

When you make your PvP build you select an amulet – all your stats come from that. The defense comes from armor class (ie light-medium-heavy) as others have pointed out above. PvE stuff is cosmetic only in PvP.
