I’m a wow player 7x multiglad an friends have been telling me to try gw2 however I got in game and my resource monitor said it was 300 latency I’m one to push myself to high ratings in most games I play. Was wondering if any ausies out there have hit those ratings with thief or any class in general

If your lag is that bad theif is not going to work for you.

I do okay as a thief with 300+ ping (playing from India). It’ll take time to learn the ropes but go for it. It won’t get you to the top 10 players, but with enough practice you’ll be playing at a reasonably high level.

Why don’t you try to play on the chinese servers? They’re closer geographically, and you’re almost in the same time zone. Maybe they speak mostly chinese, but I imagine that japanese or thai people are speaking in english.

i play from aus and i play engineer, sometimes its horrible because i cant swap kits in time or something annoying along those lines(not even turret or cele engi) but if you play after 12ish at night like i do myself (irl chef so late is no prob for me) and have a decent internet connection(generally bad aussie internet considered) then you get little to no lag otherwise when i play during 4pm-11ishpm on my days off work then i get some pritty harsh lag, that aside id consider my self a pritty good engineer player and im sure if i had the time/patience id be able to get a rather high rating

Although he has fallen from grace, Sizer plays with about 250 ping. For a while he was top thief in my opinion. So with 300 ping you should be able to be competitive with enough patience.

Pretty sure Falchii is an aussie.

Most of the people on the Chinese servers are proficient in English. I’d say at least 50% of them.

He pings 250 to EU servers? I doubt that. I was under the impression his biggest issue is he plays on a potato.

I don’t know if these numbers are accurate for sizer but yeah, ofcourse it can be done.

I was usually in the top 150 back when the leaderboards were slightly better and I was mostly playing thief with 250ms ping, and while ping screwed me over sometimes it wasnt the main thing holding me back.

The majority of thief skill (at least in solo Q) isn’t how well/quickly you press your buttons, it’s brains, outrotating people, counting/watching dodges, getting the jump on key targets etc.

It really hurts when fighting against other thieves but honestly a ‘fair’ 1v1 where both thieves see the other coming and both have all cds doesn’t happen much.
