Asking for so many skill points, seriously?
Cuz they want you to PVE more
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
You can’t buy the game and PvP as you would like, too. With that being said, most of the new GM traits are garbage so it’s almost okay.
Cuz PvP don’t generate income for them, thus forcing you to PvE
I get that they’re trying to tie all the contents and modes in game, but they shouldn’t make it that in order to have full access of PvP, you’re absolutely required to do PvE or WvWvW. (oh sure you can now get skill point from Reward Track, but how long would that take? And each time you switch character you basically have to do it all over again)
If you think about it, if you don’t need to play PvP to unlock something in PvE/WvWvW, why should it be the opposite way around?
If Anet tell you to win 20 PvP team queue matches before you can equip Exotic gears in PvE, you think you can accept that?

You used to.

I…know. That’s why I mentioned it.

And why not? There are people who buy GW2 and purely just play PvE, or WvWvW, who is to say one can’t buy the game simply to play PvP only?
I have a number of friends who are close to purely playing PvP now, because PvE doesn’t interest them, while I’m not as extreme, there are definitely times like for weeks I would log on only for PvP.
And whether the traits are garbage or not, that is not the point. (not to mention in one’s eyes they may be garbage, in another’s eyes they’re awesome)

I’m not saying it’s okay. I’m just stating everyone is no longer on an equal footing and that sucks. And no, most traits definitely are garbage in PvP.
Some unlockable skills won’t hurt the game.
Every PvP game has unlockable skills.
It’s not a bad thing.
Bad gameplay… bad patches that don’t fix bad gameplay… now that destroys a game.

When one of the biggest draws and promotions about GW2 PvP was that everybody is on an equal playing field with everything unlocked and no advantages aside from player skill, yeah, it’s a bad thing. In fact, these changes completely undermine the entire premise of GW2 PvP to the point that I don’t even trust Anet to improve PvP any more.
Not to mention the changes to skins and requiring us to grind for TC’s or buy them with gems (loliwonderwhy), just so that we can change our characters, despite the fact that a lot of us changed them like every 5 minutes. Oh, and did I mention those of us who have a dozen PvP alts because we don’t enjoy PvE?
This update = 60% good, 40% absolutely terrible.
all is vain
If there was a way to unlock skills through doing PvP tutorials so that you didn’t overwhelm totally new people, it would be okay. But the current system where you have to grind them out in PvP to use them in PvP is bad.
Hopefully this is only a partial implementation and they’ll use those unlock tracks to unlock skills/traits in the future.
It’s really easy to get skill points.
I have 100s on my main without even trying, not to mention all of the skill challenges that are easily accessible.

No unlockable doesn’t hurt the game, but some unlockable skills DO hurt the game. It hurts alts. No alts means no gem sales.
But I agree, Bad gameplay… bad patches that don’t fix bad gameplay… now that destroys a game.
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant

But that is because you actually take the time to go into PvE. There are a lot of players who don’t venture into PvE to grab those skill points. It seems like the devs are constantly pushing PvE into every aspect of the game. I want to create a lvl 2 character and be able to be on an equal playing field as someone who is lvl 80 and has 500 skill points from PvE. I wish the devs would atleast TRY to mask their gigantic bias towards the PvE aspect of the game.

You can get skill points from a ton of different places, not just PvE (in fact, the vast majority of my skill points are from WvW, Black lion chests & champ bags – which btw can be earned in PvP). I don’t see how it could be construed as a bias toward anything given that fact.

You just contradicted yourself.
Wvw = Pve
Black lion chests = You need to farm pve to buy the keys since making gold in PvP is abysmal.
Champ bags= Pve
Unless the new tracks gives a ton of champ bags or whatever, we’re going to have to pve to get skill points.
“I’m so hard right now” – Ozie, in solo queue.
Even in WvW, I don’t earn 20 skillpoints in a few hours of play like I can in PvE doing map completion or PvP through ranks and tracks.
But the problem isn’t your main character – it’s alts where you’ve spent most of your skill points to unlock other skills or didn’t PvE with them much and have no desire to PvE with that alt.
+1 to OP, its ridiculous how they keep forgetting the “equal playing field in pvp” part. Also You forgot to mention amulets and sigils that are sold for gold.
Reward tracks give skill points periodically.
Ranking up gives a bunch of skill points as long as you’re above rank 30 (Large rank chest).
Below rank 30 you get one skill point per rank. It’s also faster to rank up when you’re under rank 30.
The Reward tracks do give Champ bags, which means more skill points.
The root of the problem is that the unlock costs seem to be based on mostly PvE players that have a built up a lot of gold and skill points over many months. So the costs to unlock are high to try and reduce this stockpile. But that inadvertently punishes people who don’t PvE often and don’t have that stockpile of gold and skill points.

Your example assumed that you’re low ranking, that you can still rank up a lot of time (and relatively faster).
But consider this, you’re rank 55, and then you decided to make maybe 4 alts to play PvP, would you still say that it’s easy to get skill point then?
Also, it’s not like Champion bags are guaranteed to give you a Scroll of Knowledge every single time.

Anyone with alts will be hurting for skill points, no matter if you’re PvP primary or PvE primary. But skill point acquisition between the two modes is at about the same rate, or faster for PvP.

Can’t say that I agree. PvP may have Reward Tracks now, but if it’s about acquiring skill points, I don’t think it will be faster than doing Champion train farming (unless this new patch hit the train really hard).
I’ll probably just stop playing gw 2 completely until they change skill points in pvp. It already sucked with healing skills but now… meh I got better games to play…
