Asura - unfair pvp advantage
One of the reasons I roll them in the first place
agree op…but honestly..what can they do to fix this kitten?
i should roll an asura too, but i hate that race.

Racist…
Yes, I always wonder why do people who develop mmorpgs are always so keen on adding a small race that has a model 50% smaller than any other character. Wow had gnomes, l2 had dwarves, etc. And don’t give me crap like “all the hitboxes in this game are the same size so it does not matter” – people that choose this race for pvp know that this gives them an advantage over larger models, since attacking animations are a lot harder to spot on asuras.
They should do what quake III did – make one model available (green tank jr. as q3 example) in comp game. So in gw2 they should make enemies look like humans or sylvari that are approximately the same size.

i hate it because i like to see all armors details and asuras are very bad at it.
but i feel my norn thief should be used only in pve at this point…will see..
The attack animations I can understand. . . but maybe it’s because I play an Asura (because they have the best animations period! go /dance!) that I am not actually bothered by the animations at all. Firstly, I play a Mesmer as my main (which I’ve shelved primarily until they fix the tPvP other than to test the update to Prismatic Understanding), so once again I’m familiar with the Asura Mesmer animations. . . maybe you should play one for a bit so you understand your opponent better?
Seriously though, try disabling all Nameplates other than player names, the illusions names will disappear and you’ll only see the real one unless your mouse pointer is over one of the illusions or it’s directly in the middle of your screen. Also you’ll see the red nameplate over an enemy so you should be able to tell just by nameplates where they are at (to ensure you notice if one of them is reviving someone). This really shouldn’t be an issue for as long as these games types of games have been around, I’m really surprised by the number of people who still have issues with these things.

They could just implement the cast bar like GW1 had.
Then you could see what they’re doing and when they’re doing it.
Problem solved.
Edit – I didn’t actually read any posts until after I posted. The whole being small and slightly less noticeable thing is a problem. A minor problem, but still a problem.

And me too. I rolled one and other are really confused and this is clear because sometimes when i shadowstep away no one target me XD
With the norn if i use shadowstep all know where i have used shadowstep.
They should make giant asuras
This isn’t funny.
In PvE, as the name says, you play against the enviroment, not against other players, so this kind of advantages are useless. But in PvP, every little (hahaha, “little”) difference can become a great advantage.
Guild Wars 2 offers a very interesting PvP, with the same class skill and gear options for every one, but race become too much important. Being a Norn in PvP is worse than being an Asura, and thats not funny.
That was my problem with Asura, it is very hard at times to tell what they are doing.
Well if you want to make it equal then everyone should be human. I don’t understand the point of implementing all those different races at the first place. I guess to attract more kids to the game.
But as a compensation they are ugly and nobody likes them.
They could just implement the cast bar like GW1 had.
Actually, I like that idea for many reasons, even though the days of oldshcool interrupting are long gone
But, it would be a welcome addition imho.
Well yeah how would they fix it without Asuras looking awkward?
blond asuras..
problem solved
can you give them oversized weapons?
I find targeting asuras to be the biggest pain when they’re MM necros or mesmers. Every other profession is easy to target imho
Pres TAB = profit
THat being said, im pretty sure asuras have just as big hitbox as norns has, atleast thats my experience from JPs, meaning u can just press close to the asura or even above it. ( not confirmed but my testing says so )
Agreed. Asuras directly conflict with the minimalistic UI of Gw2. A game supposed to be about e-sports should have very standardized animations, which is about the exact opposite of what they did.
Just give asuras permanent giant mode stability PROBLEM SOLVED
A glass cannon hammer/axe;shield asuran warrior is your worst nightmare, provided that they are skilled at their profession, they will break your back and spit on you, IMO way scarier than any 100b warrior or BS thief.

I honestly haven’t noticed this being an issue, however, if it is, just make nameplates (health bars) larger and allow targeting by clicking the nameplate as well. Those things are tiny right now, they should really increase the size anyway.
The asura animation for 100 blades actually has them jump up in the air and I believe it is the same for blurred frenzy. At least the developers did not ignore the problem completely. I guess that’s what we get for playing a PVE PVP hybrid game.
But I think the Asura also have a smaller field of view so maybe that partly compensates for the difficulty in targeting them. It’s funny how some of players make the smallest model size of the sora possible and when I see that in my head I’m thinking I bet that guy is a min-maxer is bent on trying to get every advantage possible.
That would be funny if all the Asura’s were upscaled in PVP to be the same size as humans. I don’t think the Norn need to be downscaled in this case because if a player chooses to give himself a disadvantage then so be it it’s not like it’s hurting anyone.
If this game ever reaches esports status, my guess is at tournaments they will force everyone to roll human or something. Size differential is too big of an advantage in this game since the UI is so simple and everything you do decision-wise in pvp i based off of visual cues.
I can’t agree because although they are smaller height wise but there much wider than human or sylvari.
They have HUGE HEADS that are so wide a human or sylvari dropped to Min height can be just as undetectable, true there taller by alil but there so much skinnier.
I tried human/sylvari vs Asura and saw no difference in detectability due to width vs height issue.
I know a few people who have chosen Asura Mesmers, Thieves and Elementalists as alts for Wv3/sPVP simply because they know the animations are so much harder to spot and that tracking an Asura can be quite a bit more difficult than tracking anything else.
It’s not a huge problem (yet) but I think Anet might want to standardise classes better for this whole esport thing to be successful.
Small races have almost always the advantage in PvP in most games. Roll them as a habit and enjoy.
The difficulty isnt in seeing them, its in seeing there animations for using abilities so you can time interupts.
gotta agree, watching a 12ft norn cast 100b is like he’s screaming “DODGE NOW!” he’s waving around his 14ft greatsword while screaming “RWAAR MORRAWR!”
then you have the tiny asura with very similar animations for everything.

I’m not even a hardcore sPvPer and I always make my characters the smallest they go. In GW1, all my chars were the shortest they could possibly be. In GW2, all my chars are the shortest they can possibly be. It has nothing to do with PvP for me, simply how I like to have my characters.
Resize all the game models to be about human sized and rework some animations. This would allow general balance. Problem solved.
Loads of people are rerolling these days to become Asura instead for the pvp advantages.
Hman, Gods Sacred, Holly to name a few off the top of my head.
Asura can hide inside boxes on maps like Kyolo
can you give them oversized weapons?
I think would be the best solution with same size animations as humans.

After losing to QT in paids and seeing Hman on his asura warrior and not being able to see half the things their team were doing, I decided to make an asura, event though I hate tiny characters, the difference is sadly astonishing….

yes please.
Asuran racists!
I think maybe we should have an Asuran awareness month dedicated to enforcing tolerance on the lesser races.
