At this rate Anet might delete PvP......
You guys are the definition of being static and unresponsive, regarding game changes, “talking about them” doesn’t really count to be honest…
Whatever the plans of Arenanet for improving PvP motivation (and I’m sure there are certain ideas), they should not have pulled out current rewards without introducing alternatives. As it stands, pvping now has no benefit whatsoever.
If no action is taken soon there might be consequential reaction from players.
woot 30 glory boosters from black lion chest never realy do much pvp only just reached deer mostly to start using them up but now they are worthless and the money i spent buying gems. is there a way to reclaim some or all of these for another booster or refund
You need to do in-game poll, there is very large amount of players whom refuse to read the forums at all and play PvP.
You guy’s need to check out what Dota 2 does, after I think it’s 3 games they have quick popup and ask you to rate, E.g. how was your team communication. This helps Dota 2 dev’s find where the problems are and work on ways to improve it.
That’s a good idea actually! Even something as simple as a mail with a link to a strawpoll would do.
I can’t wait to delete the old PvP servers!
[…]
Sorry – but I don’t think this is the post you should make fun of those things. It’s not really showing that you are with all your love into this game.
This is making me really sad!
Engineer since BWE 1
Stop acting like you people do stuff based on player feedback, its BULL.If it is so,we would have proper game modes for pvp by now, balanced pvp and more maps instead of stuff being stripped from pvp.
Yes! Genie, make it so!
In all seriousness… We DO listen to you guys. We can’t snap our fingers and have it all done. That’s just not how game development works, unfortunately.
These things take time. We need to flesh out ideas, brainstorm, iterate, code, script, document, etc. Not all in the order, but you get the idea. There is a process. One that takes time.
We’re not like the sims, where you can just fast forward to the results. We have put a lot of features in this game as a direct result from player feedback.
You listen to the community? Is that why skyhammer is still in the rotation? Also I’ve read a previous post where you responded to a player who did a strawpoll about keeping or deleting skyhammer from the que, and you responded that the number of votes wasn’t sufficient. I guarantee if you made a thread or a strawpoll giving the community the option to get rid of skyhammer, then you would save yourself half of the Spvp threads that would have been littered with posts referring to how much they dislike skyhammer being in solo que.
Countless
well to be honest i dont hate that map. but i dont like it either. what i hate is the amount how often skyhammer and spiritwatch is selected.. that both maps are the most played maps if i queue for soloq. if they would lower the chance to get 1 of these maps i would be happy.
That is not how statistics work. I really am starting to wonder if actual mathematics is used at all in design decisions. No offense to you Allie; it’s not your job to know the math. I just dislike the perpetuation of the misconception of sample size and population. I also dislike how some of the “math” (in regards to loot and luck) in this game doesn’t make any sense.
Yes, there are reasons why the strawpoll can be called into question. Population size is not one of them.
The mathematics of probability proves the size of the population is irrelevant unless the size of the sample exceeds a few percent of the total population you are examining. This means that a sample of 500 people is equally useful in examining the opinions of a state of 15,000,000 as it would a city of 100,000.
Actually, its funny you are claiming to know more about statistics and you prove how little you know.
Re-read Dosvidanya’s statement before you spout off about how little that person knows about statistics.
I’ll highlight the section for you:
Yes, there are reasons why the strawpoll can be called into question. Population size is not one of them.

Hoping that Anet Santa Claus will read this letter:
Dear devs,
we all in the pvp community understands that new features, like game mode, class balance etc. needs more time to be released as well…
But “PLEASE”, give us some things to do while you work on it..
I’m talking about skins, give us the chance to craft/win/earn some rare skins like dreamthistle, lion’s arch event backpieces, and more skins obtainable only in pve, cause more ppl don’t care about farming gold on pve, and can’t farm for buy tormented/lovestruck etc…
also give us chance on win to get a cool backpiece, earned with the last glory remain or something similar..
I play mostly on pvp and the only thing except trying to become a great gw2 player that me and many ppl loves is to customize classes..
without drop we have only 1 reason for play, while pve players has more and more things to do instead of us..
You have forgotten the pvp community, we feel so sad, really really sad…
It’s time to take a break for some days..
In all seriousness… We DO listen to you guys. We can’t snap our fingers and have it all done. That’s just not how game development works, unfortunately.
The community as a whole is saying other wise and has been for the last 6 months….as have a lot of the top players, who have left your game as a direct result of that.
Anet seems to think they are some be all and end all of game developers. Yet this whole time the community as a whole is saying no…what are you doing that is a horrible idea. Yet Anet is like thank you for the feedback we really take that closely into consideration! Then it gets added anyway.
Maybe it would help if you would increase the development budget dedicated to sPvP from sub 1% to 10%.
So if you listen to the player base, why is there still no gvg? players have been begging for it for months.
-snip-
A very, very small percentage of our playerbase even visit these forums, let alone vote on a poll.
If a “very, very small percentage” of the community visits these forums, then I just have to ask…
1) You are the community coordinator for spvp.
2) A “very, very small percentage” of players “even visit these forums”
3) You were sub-rank 20 for at least a year (?) of being Community Coordinator (for spvp).
So my question is – how exactly do you coordinate with the spvp community? It’s not in-game (they honestly should give you time at work to log in and run spvp imo… only way to get in touch with the community). Any coordination with these forums is moot because we’re such a small sub category of a sub category (“very, very small percentage”), so anything done here seems rather unproductive. Hence, my question…
To extrapolate on this idea of “a very, very small percentage of [players] even visit[s] these forums” – what useful data can you even collect here. The argument being used is essentially, well, so few people use this tool that anything gleaned from it is automatically invalid, as it only, at best, represents a minority. So… why bother with it at all if you seek only majority opinion? It clearly is not useful for market research or gathering good feedback (as the percentage that use it is too small to be considered important).

Countless,
Yes, I did say that. I also said in that post that we are investigating ways that we can get proper metrics to reflect the majority of the playerbase. If you knew the amount of players that actually played PvP in our game, then you would understand why a strawpoll with 300 votes is not sufficient.
That’s not to say that we don’t talk about it internally. We talk about it quite a lot.
If the issue was as simple as me making a strawpoll, I’d do it; but it’s not. A very, very small percentage of our playerbase even visit these forums, let alone vote on a poll.
I really hope you aren’t referring to whether people like skyhammer. I’d actually be very scared if you aren’t sure how the majority feel about it at this point.
In the feature you can use pvp armor in pve? so if i buy a t3 armor now i can use it in pve later?

SSSsshhhhhh man, keep that logic on the DL. You’ll make people lose their jobs if this gets out.

Honestly, the last thing I want to say is this…..
Anet you seem to have a lot of faith in this upcoming patch, so hopefully there something in this patch to calm everyone down. At the same time, keeping us out of the loop, meaning not telling us what exactly is coming can be a bad thing. IF this patch is not up to par, then its deja vu all over again. We complain because you guys may not implement things people want or like. If your PvP was in a good situation from day 1, then this would not be an issue. People would just pvp originally like they normally did and continue to have fun. But since your PvP system was bad and you are basically revamping it from the ground up, telling us what to expect would be that much better. This would allow us tell you if whatever you are doing, would be a good thing before you release it. Fewer disappointments would occur and everyone will be excited for the release day. Less blindfolded patches would create less worry.
I understand that you want to keep things secrets, and make it a surprise and you can still do that by hiding easter eggs in the patch releases. But main features coming should not be hidden. Also you say you don’t want to make promises. You don’t have to promise them, but you can tell us what you guys are on specifically and what you’ve narrowed it down to. That way if an issue comes up or plans change, you can tell us because I doubt everything you say you’re working on will have to have its release date moved.
