Bad designed League System confirmed
Is that due to the number of players in the upper division not being enough? I can’t remember but did they say players would be locked into only playing against players in their division?

I hope this league system isn’t just a re-skin on top of the old leaderboard system or it will be such a fail lol.
I found the original announcement, its clear that we were never going to be restricted to just playing against players in our division, that there is the chance of playing against players from other divisions, depends on who is queuing I suppose.

The only problem with queuing with non-division players is the fact that Gw2 is using a simple win / loss system rather than a points system like mobas do. Which causes the problem that the amount of points gained / lost cannot reflect any skill/rank mismatches since its a solid win or lose with no grey area.
That said, I mean a 1 division difference isn’t huge, so I mean it really isn’t that bad. The difference between say, silver and bronze in Smite or LoL is not that high.
Division 1 have nothing to lose so expect players to not give a kitten and troll about causing you to lose pips if you are Division 2+
…and what a waste of time it all was.
I think you gotta give it more time before you start tearing into this, not everyone has played enough to get into 2 yet, most of the player base in HotM that I see are 1, so until there is some population in the higher tiers we are going to be facing everyone. When the playbase has spread out more I’m sure we will see matchmaking pair up people within the same tiers…if not than there really is no difference between leagues and old ranked queue matchmaking.

OK but you can’t fall back to D1 from D2 can you?

It works as intended.
Divisions are a progression system, it means u play X games and u Win more you can or score good results.
It doesn’t mean “the guy who is on higher tier is better than u”
It means “the guys who is in on higher tier played more match and won more”
Some guy will be better some guy will just grind a lot and stay bad.
So facing people on different division is a good thing and it’s not weird at all, in other game like LoL you can face people of different divisions, i don’t see any issue on that.
Other problem is the premade vs soloers but is another story.

This isn’t true actually, Read the blog post detailing this:
“Winning a match will earn you a point toward the next tier or division. Matching up against tougher opponents can earn you points for getting close to winning and multiple points for pulling off an upset, so it’s always worth it to play your best and never give up!”

Only ever seen a single point given out, how bout you lol? I mean this may be due to everyone starting in the same place but as of currently the system is a solid 1 point per win 1 point per loss, with no differentiation. Plus the point pool is so small (15 to next rank) as opposed to 100 on most league based games which allows for more fine-tuned point rewarding based on matching.
I mean I went like 5 or 6 – 2 and we were just yolo qing, so I really couldn’t care less but the system is not as robust as preexisting competitive league systems.

Ranked MMR has decayed for everyone. So there’s no way to pull off an epic win, at least as far as the system is concerned.

You must be new to how the competitive scene works in gaming. It’s not always fair. You’re not always paired with the same skill level because there’s not always enough people online in your current range. The leagues just came out, not everyone that would potentially be where you’re at has played enough matches to make it there.
A second note: League of Legends has nearly 70 million players and I am still paired up with people divisions above and below me…quite frequently I might add.
tldr: it will never be fair, so you shouldn’t have the mindset that it will.
I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.

That’s 100% false. Most real competitive games have a pretty good league system that matches very close to same MMR and skill level.
Real Esport games like Starcraft 2 league system is a good example of a proper system that matches based on skill level. Unless someone is smurfing on a low MMR account, the skill level always matches you based on your MMR and only places you vs people with that MMR range.
Mobas only have a small period of hell (ELO hell) in which you often get paired with new players, but once you advanced pass that, it matches you with close to the same skill lvl players.
I’m not going to comment on Guild wars 2 league system yet as it’s way too early to judge it, we will have to wait a good month to see how everything turns out.
ok guys listen , its official. The league system is very bad designed. I am in Division 2 now and still get matched with Division 1 people.
seriously?
when i am in division 2 i dont want to play with people in division 1.
when i am in division 3 i dont want o play with people in division 2.
when i am in division 4 i dont want to play with people in division 3.where is the point to have different divisions at all?
even in MoBAs are Gold 1s put with Gold 5s etc etc, if u were Ruby matched with Division 2 Ambers, u could place a complaint but thats Ridiculous to expect that level of Precision, u’d be Trapped in queues for like 30-40 minutes a Pop, u wouldnt even see PvP under those levels of Restrictions.

Such as every game has people complaining about the League System lol, not to mention not one is as precise as the OP is actually asking for.
“MMR Range” would be Division 1-3, that would be the Average MMR Levels between the Amber rank, which would invalidate the Ops claims that it should Specifically only match him with players who have Directly the identical MMR level of himself, which is utter lies.
Also for example
1 guy logs on today gets all 5 ranks Consecutively, another guy logs on takes 10 games, Guy 1 = 100% Win rate, Second guy = 50% Win rate, but the identical Amber Division, Now, which guy has the higher MMR? lol
Clearly the first guy, therefore ur Division actually doesnt tell you how long you took to get there, so u could be the worse player scrapping the division boarders where anothers traveling to the same rank much quicker then you are, Which means his MMR would match a Rank 0 where the Next guy would prolly match a division higher then himself due to the fact hes Consecutively winning therefore showing he should be in a much higher rank then himself.

They said on the announce everyone can have the backpiece, even the bad players. Good players will just have it faster.
It’s still day 1…
They never said they’d be locking matchmaking down in divisions. Sadly.
