On a more serious note –

Overall I think the patch rose the power level and I’m not sure if there’s enough defense against some specs now. Condi warriors or necros can basically do condi spikes right now.

  • Necro has the sickiest build diversity I’ve ever seen (and I main necro) and they have amazing utilities that you can combine regardless of their traits.
  • Warriors received some help, but I still can kite them very effectively. Can’t say if it’s me being good and the warriors I dueled being bad (I know I’m good), but they definitely need something more or people need to change how they play warriors.
  • Mesmers cry about the changes, but they were very strong for months. Can’t say yet if the complaints are justified, it’s too early for that.
  • Engies are fun and getting even more fun, but few people realize the potential (most of those who do, play tPvP). Teldo will keep winning with engie, regardless of what happens.
  • Thieves received some unprecedented mechanics, that are looking very strong (hello, ambush shadow trap ninja).
  • Eles need some work, but are still really good at what they do. Can’t say where their build diversity is at right now. I would really like some good eles to get rid of this bunker mindset and test and learn some more offensive builds.
  • Guards have received the least changes since the release and seem to have the worst build diversity of all classes.
  • I hate rangers so I won’t talk about them. Sorry. I think they are bad though.

one thing i’m keeping an eye on is necros though they are not op and i never thought they were in a bad spot before the patch (maybe Anet wanted to make them more fun to play idunno) but there starting to creep up a lot in pvp do to there new found strength.

but all in all cant say for sure yet patch was alright but i honestly think they could of done a bit more there is still a lot of useless skills and traits in the game.

And before says my build doesn’t work, when Ele’s get nerfed it will be -Schwahrheit

My impression is – if necros and non-necros got used to the necro being bad, so the first group learned to play with what little they had and the other one learned to gib necros, they will now most definitely perceive the necro as being op.

The meta needs to stabilise. People need to get creative and find counters to this new necro which you just can’t ignore right now as it used to be (ignore as in: just quickly and easily dispose of the necro and win the match). I’m not saying it is or isn’t op. I played thousands of matches on my necro in tPvP but I’m trying to be as objective and cool-headed as I can. It’s too early to judge.

I’ve only been experimenting and keeping track of the warrior changes.

Results: barely any change. Still awful. If all of the other classes were untouched this patch, and it was only the warrior that was getting changed, I’d say warriors would have been upped to 70% on par with other classes in terms of balance. However, all classes crept up in power this patch, making the warrior feel very behind as usual.

First impressions:

1) Necro still a CC rag doll, but will kill everything that doesn’t focus it down in the first 20s.

2) Guardian is still good, still pretty much a requirement on a team, and perhaps moreso with the relative increase in the value of AoE stability. Still could use some tweaking to promote more diversity I think, but whatever steps this patch made seem to be in the right direction.

3) Seems like there is a power creep factor to the patch.

4) Good mesmers have no reason to QQ. They now have more than 1 viable way to play in tourneys and frankly I don’t think they lost all that much. The Blurred Frenzy nerf was long overdue and probably still not as severe as what was deserved. Anyone that whines about “needing” that skill the way it was doesn’t have any credibility talking about balance in my opinion.

5) Engie actually got some pretty nice buffs. Losing the breaker on Elixir R hurts, but overall they got some nice added effects and compression out of the patch.

6) I like the Warrior patch. It feels like good warriors that know the class well are going to be a force to be reckoned with, but bad warriors aren’t just going to face roll people. I think overall the changes give the class more depth and more skill-based play. We shall see.

7) Thieves seem to be in a really wierd place all of a sudden. Not sure what to do with them other than exploit the wildly over the top mobility. The changes here are the hardest for me to interpret, but I think making S/D a serious initiative eater and turning situational will make swaps the most critical aspect of the profession for its users, thus making it a more skill-based option. I think they will get diversity out of the patch, but I don’t know if they won’t need a little buff soon.

8) Rangers… I dunno. I think they went in a good direction putting some more damage into the ranger and pulling some off of the pets. Not sure they went far enough on either front as crazy as it seems to say that. Down State 3 is still completely broken too, so there is work to be done here I think. Hopefully some ranger out there can take the nice pick-up that Long Bow got and make something special out of it, because I think it has potential, but I’m not sure it is quite good enough yet.

9) Ele. Scratching my head here. They really could have done more with some of the trait lines here, but maybe I’m missing something as this is one of my least played classes. I suppose time will tell.

Overall I think this was actually a pretty good patch and after a few weeks we will look back and say that more build diversity overall has come into the game as a result.

At the very least a big, sweeping change like this will shake up the stale meta a bit and let us have some fun testing out new things.

In wvw I finding things quite. Necro powerful with weaknesses ofc. Other classes still strong. All classes with more builds. Alot of fun. Spvp is fun too.

I think duration of new weakness needs to go even lower.Its way too strong..
If you are averagly lucky its 25% damage decrease..a kittening second protection.
Dont you fear everybody and their mothers will run cond comps just due to this?
Also it needs to be removed from autoattacks..Dying from an engie autoattacking me with elixir gun applying burn,bleed and perma weakness is too much for my liking..

Necro is pretty hilarious right now. I wouldn’t call it OP yet because stability and CC spam will ruin your day rather quickly, but it’s definitely really strong and a lot of fun to play. Stomping in team fights is still an issue. I fought several 1v3s where I repeatedly had 2 people on the ground, but I couldn’t get a stomp off without getting destroyed or stack enough damage on the bodies to keep them from being revived. Some more options to generate life force would not be unwelcome.

Ele took more W-T-F nerfs that just make me shake my head. I haven’t tested the changes to earth yet, but fire is still beyond terrible and persisting flames doesn’t change that. I was testing out a 30 fire build and found myself swapping back to pyromancer’s puissance most of the time, or sitting there thinking I would be better off using PP. Fresh air still isn’t worth giving up evasive arcana and healing ripple.

^I ll agree to this..Its not so the nerfs to ele though.Its more about the rise of necro and condition damage which overwhelms ele (maybe water line shouldnt have been nerfed if they planned such things ..) and the fall of power/crit builds due to new weakness.Especially in the case of ele who needs to commit to long fights and doesnt have the ability to burst something and avoid the effect of weakness.\
Also healing signet is much worse without the extra heals (again maybe the 20% nerf wasnt justified if they were gonna fix it this way)
Also engie with new rtl pre nerf?? :O
Thats why you dont nerf huge time before fixing the bad stuff and increasing power of all classes..

The new staff is so fluid and dynamic …amazing, healing rain on the move and penetrating gust..exceptional patch for eles, all the stiffness is gone..no words to describe the beauty of playing the new ele

Judging from my limited night hotjoin experience right after the patch I can only say that our buffs are mostly offensive. We got some quite good offensive possibilities now.

If we talk about defense then the most significant change is spectral effects from spectral armor and spectral walk staying while in DS which can lead to some long invuln moments with that DS sustain. If people are going to be focusing necro with high number of weak attacks, the DS necro won’t die since every attack gives 3% LF. You need to either wait this effect out or until LF degenerates by itself, CC the necro or hit with heavy hitting attacks. It doesn’t matter how many people focus you if you go into a spectral effect and enter DS as long as your enemies just pound away at you with a lot of attacks, your LF is just going to either stay in one place or go up. You can get focused by 30+ people like this and they’ll just see your DS bar go up and stay at full. Outside of this combo, however, nothing’s really changed that much for necro defenses.

Necro is still vulnerable to CC like we were pre patch unless you go into a very specific build which would be combining DS CD, stability on DS and spectral effects again for the LF generation.

So in the end focusing a necro is going to be pretty much the same as pre patch unless it is a necro who has that anti CC build or uses spectral walk and spectral armor(preferably fully traited).

If you see a necro who applies burning you can probably focus him right away while chain CCing him as usual.

Something dosent have to be directly nerfed to be..nerfed.Water line was nerfed right at the moment condition spam is rising..3 condies every 40 sec wont save you and your 13k hp..also glancing glancing glancing glancing :P

Necros are extremely over powered right now. If you run 30,30,10 you’ll absolutely destroy anyone 1v1 if you have half a brain. There may be the occasional loss if you pass out for a good 5 seconds but that’s about it. The fact that they can easily pull off 15 bleed + a kitten load of other condis in less then 2 seconds makes condi cleansing almost impossible. They have become guardian killers 1v1, soldiers runes + shouts and pure of voice doesn’t even compete with a competent necromancer.

As for the guardian patches they’re a joke. Lets make some changes to Zeal the only trait line in which no guardians play because spirit weapons aren’t viable TPvP. The movement of the greatsword healing trait to master is also a joke. It heals ~75 per hit or something ridiculously low even when using clerics. WP ArenaNet.

Oh yea, it’s probably worth mentioning that they’ve ruined Rangers and I doubt they’ll be in the meta at all.

I’d continue but I know my ranting won’t achieve anything because the Devs don’t understand the game.

As an Ele, all I can say is after this patch…I’m ecstatic.

First off, I’m one shotting people with the Phoenix change. Yes, doubling the velocity made it that good.

2nd, there are now 2 viable burst builds, and 2 viable bunker builds. I now have 2 character slots, and thinking of getting a third, devoted just to ele’s.

My only quarrel? All Scepter Dagger.

The traits are different, runes, sigils, amulets all different. But with the nerf to bountiful power dagger just can’t keep up with scepter burst.

I’m still only using cantrips and arcane spells, but I’m using 2 different elites.

I wouldn’t mind working on a staff build, and Dagger is in an Ok place, but it’s gonna need a bit of work to compete with scepter, because right now any ele’s not running scepter are crazy.

As for Necros…if they have us just burning and fear wall I would’ve probably been happy. If they gave us the rest of the changes and no burning, would’ve been happy. The fact they made all these changes AND gave us burning is….insane. Necro burning is OP as crap it’s fantastic

I’m in a happy place right now. My green and purple pie chart is telling me I picked the right classes

I do not want to be a guardian in this patch ill tell you that. If necros continue with this kind of presence in the meta, you may see bunker ele’s as the new mid fight, or you better be a kitten ed good Guardian.

I dont know which people work at Arenanet but with last patch they destroyed all their previous work. The necro buff is pretty hillerarious…now they auto attack you to 10 -15 stacks bleeding – than you get instant 5-8 other conditions + burning, and you drop in 2 seconds from hero to zero. Instead of buffing the overall mobility of necros they increased the damage to a point were a necro can kitten a entire group in seconds. You dont know which condition you should cleanse first because 5 seconds later you will have again 5+ bleedstacks + other conditions.
As a ele and in the current group combos you have to use ether renewal but oh wait mesmer is interrupting you and you drop again by bursty conditions. Its just too much.

Necro’s Wreck kitten now. No questions about it. Their Conditions Spike and stability mechanics are intense.

I do fear that Necro’s are abit/really on top of the PvP Tree now. It’s just like… wow….
