After the revelations of the elite specs, I finally understand why Anet didn’t nerf ele that hard. Their balance ideology must be to make all classes what we, at the moment, consider op so that no one can complain their class is underpowered.

All the elite specs, with the exception of possibly daredevil and tempest, are ridiculously overpowered. D/D cele ele does not even hold a candle to them now. In fact, I think that the fire line nerf should be reverted to make it on par with the other elite specs, and I have always been one for ele nerfs.

I’m not saying this is necessarily a bad thing, as they are overpowered by current standards but may become the norm once HoT hits. I think it’ll be interesting to see how the meta is shaken up but I have a bad feeling about this. Balancing by buffing everything usually doesn’t end well. Let’s hope this goes well eh?

I did not feel that the beta classes were statistically over powered concerning DPS or sustain. I think they have edge over classic classes because they plainly have more traits/utilities & options in general. This allows HoT classes a diversity in approaching matches that classic classes do not have.

In the end, players on classic classes vs. players with HoT specializations will become the largest argument in this forum concerning match balance. Expect it to be a problem and expect it soon.

I just want to say that daredevil and tempest aren’t as bad as people are billing them out to be. Daredevil in particular raises thief’s 1v1 potential enormously due to interrupt spam, and tempest, now that its been considerably improved makes marauder builds much more powerful, while opening up celestial builds with arguably better teamfight potential than base ele that don’t rely on arcane, or even water to be effective.

While the other elite specs are stronger in comparison I’m not too concerned, since leagues seem to be indicative of slightly more frequent balance patches, and some of the elite specs will take a while to be figured out completely by the playerbase in terms of viability in an actual competitive scenario. Remember, and elite spec gives up a base traitline to be an elite spec, and in many cases existing builds can’t translate into the new playstyle very well since giving up a base-class traitline means giving up existing build synergies, and across the board things like the new weapons and new utility skills are widely considered to be the weakest component of each elite spec compared to new mechanics and traits, with a few exceptions like chronomancer.

Perhaps you didn’t get matched against them/tested them enough. Druid has tons of sustain with high upkeep of damage and cc (good lord the amount of cc from druid). Heck, it’s not just druid. Every other elite spec has them. Reaper, scrapper, herald, dragon hunter etc.

Trying to pvp as a conventional warrior against these new specs boasting high dps and sustain has been excruciating, forcing me to jump on my ele main for more evenly matched games.

I really think it’s mainly a problem with the Warrior class before it is the new masteries. Warrior is like the only class left that doesn’t have some method to reliably chase ranged attackers or some amazing method to peel and survive via stealth, teleports or super speed.

The Warrior used to be all about control but this doesn’t work anymore because of how much sustain is provided by all this peeling nowadays. The Warrior needs some means of keeping up with enemy repositions again.

That’s my opinion anyway.

Masteries? Don’t those affect pve only? Or were you referring to its elite spec, the berserker? Berserker is also underpowered. It’s competing with many core traits, resulting in warrior being neither here nor there even with berserker slotted.

Berserker has not improved much of what warrior was lacking either.
