The goal of future PvP seems to be increasing its population at any cost. Dumbing down the gameplay seems to be the perfect way to attract newbies to PvP, but it is also absolutely irritating for veterans… And without veterans there is no e-sport, what makes me wonder what’s the point of this move, because everybody knows the devs want to make GW2 e-sport.

I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.
In City of Heroes there actually was a Warrior style build that was almost entirely passive toggles. Stand next to the enemy and take the damage until they die. CoH is dead.
I’d like to see balance done in smaller increments, more frequently. ANET also has a habit of trying to balance with esoteric changes. It would be far more effective to balance directly by changing damage, for example IMO. The odd changes tend to have ripple effects and unintended consequences.
Every class is built on passives. The other 10% is double dodging.

Rely on just applying as much burn as possible and running around in circles

There are really too many in this game, but that’s because this isn’t some ‘esports’ MMO. A lot of the players including myself at some point in time have relied on their passives to win a fight for them. We’re all given large handicaps and therefore your outplay from beating other’s 1v1 isn’t so much outplay as it is out-passive.
Yeah it’d be neat if they could figure out a system where we didn’t rely on passives so much, but imagine how many people would complain and say the game became too hard, because that extra plague signet, defy pain, or what have you saved their kitten in a close fight.
The game is becoming a lot easier, and that’s because promoting a complex game is too much to handle. The new engineer spec relies on a lot of passives from gyros, we’re not even given a new kit, but we’re given AI…
Currently the top builds in this game play themselves because they have better passive heals, and better passive damage… as well as defense mechnisms that are all passive. Blinding Ashes, Plague Signet, the other classes are armed with ‘great’ escape mechanics so we can atleast run and give them the node, because they’ve just passively outplayed us.
Will they change this or aim more towards passive play? Well we already know the answer to that.
Our auto attacks are technically passive even. We get to a third level skill from hitting a target twice before…
