Basic classes for pvp
Since I don’t have HoT, are there any good classes/builds I can get by with the basic set?
Not sure, I know quite a few players did well on free accounts with necros last season. Some got to legendary. Have a look on sites like Metabattle. I’m sure someone said there was a good core necro build on there.

Warrior without the elite spec is probably in the best spot atm being you can still take discipline and defense and trade out strength for beserker…you still have the regen your burst skills are just less frequent

you can try condition mesmer with scepter torch , sword sword. It is not strong as chrono but i think it is viable now . Yhave good stealth accesses and blocks. I play it with rabid but you can use carrionr also. Usually in a match i look at party composition, if there are 2 or more necromancer i take carrion amulet, otherwise rabid but they are imho them both strong . Chrono is better for me only for the 25% speed . Shield is really strong but also offhand sword traited is quite good
