Battle of Khylo - Value of the Trebuchet?
it can be VERY worth it. it is not required though. the only requirement is killing your opponent’s treb if they are using it. it doesn’t need to be in use throughout either. if your team is struggling to win team fights it can help turn the tide to toss a couple treb shots and pull one or two of their players to treb while you bail and take advantage of their diminished numbers out in the field.
It’s not really firing blindly though. Once you get used to it you’ll realize there’s a target duration for hitting mid and another for hitting sides. I don’t even watch the bar anymore, I just count in my head and watch the map for incoming and team movements.
I’ve stayed at this party entirely too long

With “firing blind” i was more referring to the difficulty of seeing where the enemies are. Usually I just fire at the capture circle/square.
That’s a good idea about baiting them to an (empty) treb.
The Treb is extremely useful to a lot of pug teams, enemies don’t seem to try to avoid it but if you are talking about experienced pre-mades then no, they know how to dodge.

I only ever worry about hitting the point. holding the point is the primary objective so, for instance, if we own it and are defending then the enemy is obligated to get on the point and not only fight against the bunker/support but also do so with treb shots raining down on him i.e. not a fight they’re likely to win. Conversely, if it’s a point my team is trying to take, then the opposing team not only has to stay on point to keep my teammates from capping but they have to do so with treb shots raining down on them.
Do you see what I mean? The best use for treb is point control, not necessarily killing – that’s just its means for doing so.
And yeah, treb will always attract attention as soon as it hits someone. Putting someone there who can take the focused attention and get some support from the roamers it can decide a match. If they send two though, just keep lobbing treb shots till they get to the bottom of the hill and then bail to the nearest team fight/contested node. You’ve now made it a 5v3 on the field for as long as it takes them to kill the treb and rotate back to anywhere meaningful.
In case it wasn’t clear, I kittening LOVE Khylo. Best map so far

First of all, the treb interrupts as well as damages. Secondly, don’t fire blindly. Have teammates call out where they want the treb to land. It’s up to you to make that happen.
Treb takes skill to use. Skills you can’t really develop anywhere else. Treb practice from the mists/wvw can help somewhat, but you still really need to know the distances.
You need to move the treb aim quickly between where it is needed. You need to hit your shots as often as possible. You need to know when to leave the treb to die and go cap a point.
A bad treb is a waste of a person for sure. But a good treb is always worthy. One good shot can tip a fight, and thus the game. Sure good players can dodge it, but making them do so is still good. They have to pay attention to it, and spend endurance on it.
The treb is also amazing if someone is down. Can’t dodge while on the ground, or while ressing. You can mist/shrink while ressing, but the treb will damage the body and those only last a few seconds. Warrior stability stomping you? Well if you got him low enough, the treb will straight up down him.
If you have a strong 1v1 on treb the enemy has the following options:
1. Let you treb
2. Send an equally strong duelist
3. Send 2 or more.
2 is really the best bet but still not great. They have to run to your treb (time they aren’t doing anything else), fight you, kill the treb and return to something useful. If they just kill you and leave, you can be trebbing again soon (short distance from spawn to treb). They have to run there and back in less than 15 seconds (spawn time) for it to be worth. If they spend time to kill the treb, that’s even longer they are also down a person. You’ll spawn roughly when they are done, so both of you are running back to the fight as if the treb didn’t exist. You’ll be a little behind, but that’s from you losing a 1v1 not from treb. The treb is the threat that forced them to send someone after you.
Sending 2 or more is fast, but you are 4v3 on the rest of the map which is an advantage.
every team ive been in that used our treb/kept the other team’s down usually wins every time. especially against teams that dont care about their treb
Some teams use it very little, some teams use it a lot. That’s the beauty of it, it’s your choice! Khylo was definitely the best map on release. I think I like temple the most now though.
I’ve seen a lot of teams ignoring it. Is it worth using? I know it does kittentons of damage, but seeing as you’re firing almost blindly and can ONLY deal damage, would it be better to have another man there to help out in other ways?
If you leave the usual op trap ranger at it is going to be a huge advantage since they have to send 2 if they want to destroy it..

There is more creative ways to deal with the treb than fighting the ranger face to face, I’ll leave that up for you and others to figure out though
I’m really good at using treb on this map. 1 thing I always do in tournament match is tell someone who is bunker to contest the far point because theres normally 2 or 3 guys over there and easily treb and put there team off balance at start of game. The first thing I always do is take out clocktower walls so I can see inside. If no one goes for far point treb clocktower then treb right in front of it because when the other team caps 90% of time they will run right in front of you.
1 big tip, if you see on the map that you teammates are moving in circles or just around, that’s good indicater of where to aim at, but capping points always take priority, well except when you have 3 guys capping against 1 guy defending and 1 guy defending against 4 cappers, I will treb the four guys, because that 1 guy needs more help than the other 3. Basically use logic of who needs most help.
If you trust your teamates, have them call target on any enemy players near where they want you to treb. That giant red target is visible across the entire map, and it can help you get a sense for how the enemy players are moving.
Also, if you’re just playing for the lols: have a buddy pick one player on the enemy team to call target on every time. Then, harass that player EVERYWHERE he goes with treb hits. Excuse this behavior by pretending that you are practicing with the treb, which y’know, technically you are…
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Ah,i miss the good ol’ days when my team’s ranger would just sit on treb all day trebbing along before grenades were concieved.
you know theres a little elite of one class that can dispatch the treb and the door in foefire like it was a critter :P

You talking about the engineer? I’ve seen some class and pretty sure it was engineer that toke out treb by throwing grenades, he toke it out in like 1 or 2 hits from the wall, he wasn’t even near the treb. I’d say if you playing this map you should always have an engineer on your team for that.
And yes the treb is extremely important in this game, taking out the enemy treb is also extremely important, which many people do not do in PUG tourneys.
I sometimes don’t understand how I’ll be taking out there entire team with the treb and they don’t even attempt to break the treb
