This is just personal opinion ; but i hope before the next balance patch , we can see some changes to warriors and guardians base dmg on auto attacks and maybe a few vanilla skills to compensate with HoT builds/specs . For me , i feel like Greatsword on Guardian doesn’t do very much dmg when it comes to trying to mitigate dmg through auto attacks while skills are on cool-down. Using Axe on warrior is just about the same , with 6 hits total and players that constantly moving and are hard to lock down at times with stability being so easy to apply; Axe damage is only mitigated through Eviscerate ( and that’s just base warrior). I suggest reducing the number of auto attacks on Axe from 3 (but 6 hits) to 3 and just 3 hits. Decapitation is essentially weaker than Eviscerate too , which I find rather odd considering the fact it’s SUPPOSE to be an upgraded version of the skill . It does do a shock wave, but most of the time it doesn’t actually hit anything .
Mace and hammer on both guardian and warrior are very slow; although mace auto attacks on warrior hit hard if it crits, its still rather slow to use. Guardian mace / hammer , are just rendered useless in most cases . Especially in PvP . Due to meta’s certain build’s can’t be used because skills have too high of a cooldown. The reason why HoT builds are so effective and extremely powerful against vanilla classes , is because all vanilla classes have higher cooldowns that cant compensate for fighting at higher speeds / faster combat. Just about every HoT elite spec utility – weapon skill have a cooldown ranging from 4-90 seconds.
This is a bit off topic of the title but i would like to point out a fact to a heavy nerf to warrior banners too. Banners are just useless other than zerging in WvW or raids. Ever since they removed the 5 traitlines and only allowed players to use 3 , banners trait (inspiring banners) lost the cooldown reduction and radius. So skills like “Battle Standard” are really useless to use.
I understand Anet is slowly making progress on pvp and they didn’t intend on so many builds to be the way that they are (trap rune guardians / Condition mesmer / 2xDagger Condition Thief), but constantly buffing a certain class cause of a Meta is just wrong. Each class should have a certain set of skills and cool downs to make playing the game fun. Having a certain class be essentially “stronger / easier to play” than others makes the game frustrating to play at times.
So that’s just my opinion on Warrior and guardian , hopefully Devs take the time to effectively balance a few vanilla classes too. I want to see Elementalist make a come back as well as Power Reapers / Power necros. Allowing players to play their favorite classes instead of playing “The Flavor of the Month” or “Meta” Builds.
