I want to try a sniper. A character that destroys from a distance, but goes down like tissue if you catch him.

Would that be a power-based ranger? A warrior? Thief?

Is 1500 range really worth it? Don’t people close the distance fast once they come after you anyway?

Thanks for any thoughts if you have played a character strategy like this.

Warrior. You’ll take hardly any damage anyways, and with rifle, you can hit people up to 1500 range away with insta-kills. Even if they do catch up to you, you’ll probably still kill them.

Thieves don’t have a single weapon skill that travels over 900 range.

Still long casting time, easily dodgable and pretty much worthless without it..

Rangers Longbow..
1500 range, you may not see the number you will see from a Warriors killshot but a lot more options..
AoE at 1500 range and autohits hit for 2-3k with 1sec attack rating

Warrior + Rifle = ultimate sniper build.

I used to think Engineers with static discharge build could snipe people well (and they can), but then I learned what warriors can do with rifle. It’s insane.

anyway, warrior rifle is not viable in competitive matches

but if you want some thing kills people from far and goes down like tissue if you catch him, probably war rifle (wvw only). in tpvp rifle rarely kill anyone tbh.

oh btw, you should try staff ele, i play it from time to time, huge aoe that does insane damage, 4.5k damage on light armor classes per number 1 skill with fast cast time and 1200 range, and you break like a tissue , but if you are good at it you can basically burst some one to death in an instant before he can touch you.

Yes, S/D w/ SB and the 10/0/0/30/30 trait line has been refuted and is a terrible build. On the other hand, staff ele is OP and Rifle sucks.

The big problem with berserker Staff Ele that if ANYONE catches you in a 1v1 (their build doesn’t matter), you lose.

It can get very frustrating if you find yourself attacked by a random guy while traveling between nodes. Your entire defense revolves around sticking with the group and making sure the enemy doesn’t notice you, which isn’t exactly easy because staff ele’s have no stealth, no mobility and their spells are flashy.

That’s why I would recommend warrior, at least you stand a chance if you find yourself in a 1v1 scenario. You get high base stats, good mobility, switch between weapon sets, etc.

Or at least go rifle engineer. Anything but staff ele lol.

My testing is showing that Longbow Ranger is much better than the warrior. The warrior has to build adrenaline for the killshot. And if they see you kneeling it’s pretty easy to dodge.

On the other hand, the longbow with Eagles and Berserker is high power, high crit percentage (57%) and high added crit damage (58%)…1700 to 2800 every 3/4 second That adds up fast, and you can spread it around targets fast as you support your team from a distance.

Hunters shot gives you stealth every 4 secs if you need it to help you get away.

I am not sure what would be best for the melee set if I get caught. I am still paper at that point. Maybe just die and get it over with?

You seem awfully angry.

You’d think an engineer would be an awesome sniper…but as others said already, a warrior is really what you’re looking for.
