Best active class for soloq
Play a thief or mesmer for solo queue.
BM bunker ranger or engineer, while good 1v1 classes in tournies, are not good for random hotjoins since people zerg and both the engineer and BM bunker take longer to kill.
I was expecting/fearing to hear mesmer. To clarify: I only play tournaments, never hotjoins and my complaints and frustrations are purely based on tournament experiences.
Mesmer. With a build with both high defense and offense that can change their style between point defender and point assaulter at will. Shatter ofc. Good for both 1v1s and team fights.
Play whatever you’re most competent with. You’ll do more harm than good for your team if you play a class you’re not good with. I’d rather play with a good bunker instead of a halfass mesmer/thief any day.

You needn’t change profession if you’re good at it.
I’d suggest switching the usual cleric’s amulet to soldier perhaps, you’d still be very tanky- and you’ll be able to deal better damage. (Instead of simply having to reply on you team for damage.)
Also in my experience a fully offensive guardian is quite viable if you want to have some dps fun once in a while.
Switching the amulet would be a very minor alteration to my minuscule damage. I reckon it would give me the subpar character I was mentioning earlier. I’d have to sacrifice more bunker power than just the amulet to make the build versatile, don’t you think?
I had the same problem with my bunker elementalist. So I raged and randomly changed traits to 15/15/15/15/10 and got divinity runes and cleric amulet.
It works for me, maybe it’ll work for guardian too? You got nothing to lose right?

Personally, I play Bunker builds regardless of win or lose because bunker is the one build that no one likes to play in solo queues. It’s kinda like healers in all those games with auto-sorting LFG tools.

The problem with playing bunker in solo queue is that if your team fails, you can’t retake a point by yourself, making yourself completely useless. And if they send 2-3 half-competent people at you then you are guaranteed to lose the point.
However usually a bunker is beneficial to a pug since no one likes playing bunker. It really is the equivalent of the GW2 “monk” or heal slave.
Best thing to do is to switch to a DPS class when you see this happening. You can switch in the middle of a battle.
You may not be able to take it, but if your good you can get the neut.
Then hopefully your team is competent enough to come to the white point with the swords through it. If not your screwed for other reasons.
@DXIEdge on twitter.
yeah… i tried solo queuing on a bunker guardian but most of the time i was just so frustrated because my team was busy fighting somewhere far away from any point
you should try out a roamer like a thief or a mesmer
Notalkingplz (PvE/Spvp) – Guardian
Rough Trade (PvE)/Urok Ashpaw (Spvp) – Engineer
This is going to sound funny but try a bunker spec with access to swiftness. The majority of solo q matches I’ve played end up with people fighting at one point while the rest are undefended. Even premades up to 90% rating do that.
If you want to win, just run around capping the undefended points. By the time they go back to cap them, your team will have a significant lead since very few people will leave active combat to recap their points.
Bunker the point against 1-2 people.. if more zerg it, just bail and come back 30 seconds later once they all leave. A single person doing this will cause your PuG to win vs another PuG
I run a support guardian, and I have the same problem. While my presence can usually help my team win in a group fight, say on mid point, they’ll usually be too terribad to then come help me retake either home or far point. And there’s no way I could do it myself. Basically, nobody seems to know where to be at the right time in pugs, which is very frustrating when you’re trying to support them.
I have had success with a bunker ranger, going between mid and far as my teammates mindlessly zerg mid point, and it has probably won a game or two at least that we wouldn’t have otherwise. The difference is rangers can actually do some damage.
Ele / Warrior / Guardian
You know you can take another class after watching at your team’s composition right? Best yoloq class is the one that would work in your team…i mean, you go mesmer, you get other 2 mesmers and you don’t reroll? That makes already yoloq much more like suicideq…you can’t pretend to play only one class if you want to give a try into soloq…you already have a few chances to win…sticking on one class makes it even harder..

I’d play Symbol DPS Guardian, BM Ranger, Thief, Mesmer, S/D Ele, and Node Fighter Engi.
Warrior and Necro will just leave you frustrated. Ranger, Thief, Mesmer, and Ele are good because you can disengage when out numbered, and are very mobile. I like to play hotjoins on Engi to practice 2 v 1 scenarios. Symbol DPS Guardian is a lot of fun. It’s a bruiser build with some decent suitability that a Warrior wish he had : ( Bunker Guadian will leave you frustrated too, because you cannot count on your team.
My vote goes to mesmer
Even if your pug team is total chaos, but still fighting on a point, then you can make quite a big difference without havig to rely on your team to much.
Supporting a fight on a point looks something like this: pick a target, burst it while evading all damage, jump out of the fight if he survived, wait for burst to recharge, repreat. Stealth and teleports will keep the enemy team focusin your team so you can freely spectate and burst low targets or weak targets down. If you lose the fight you have amazing mobilty to escape and go to another point.
Hope this helps,
Alissah

I think Mesmer, really.
Nice mix of power, defense and disengage options. You will do real good in just about any situation as long as you are not completely zerged down right away or fanatically chased.
You can nuke hard, got some great active defenses and you can attack and defend at the same time. If you are smart and aware of surroundings, you will be able to avoid just about any bad fight, unless maybe if there are 2+ guys who made some sort of sacred pledge to tunnel vision and chase you and only you around whole map AND while they do that there are no friendlies to distract them around.
Valk-Amu Phantasm-Mesmer:
High DPS, decent sustain, decent Teamfight, good Utilities (knockback, Moa/Quickness, Stuns) probably one of the strongest classes in 1v1, even against very tanky stuff like BM-Ranger.
It’s basically a jack of all trades.
Thanks for the answers but in the meantime I quit the game. Enjoy.

YOU ARE NOT THE INVENTOR OF WORDS!!! lol
Mesmer or BM ranger.
Mesmer because they have very good supportive abilities as well as high burst.
Ranger because they are currently the masters of 1v1 (I’d go so far as to say OP), and that way you can easily secure at least one node for your team.
Zaphiel Faires – DPS Guardian
I’ve got about a %60 win rate in solo-Q with my engy.
That said, it took me several months playing ~90 minutes a night to get competent with it.

seemed a ligit OP to me..
It really was an honest question and had I known that I’d quit within a week from posting I of course wouldn’t have wasted everyone’s time with the topic. I am really sorry for that but I simply realized one evening while playing that this is not the game I thought I’d love anymore. I never meant to troll or waste forum bandwidth. All your advice is still very helpful and in case I pick it up again I’ll put it to use.
