Hypothetical question here: If you were going to queue for some games with a friend who played a bunker guardian, what class would you choose to pair with them?

Anything with a bunker guard is going to be good; I’d really like to say just play what he’s best at. If you’re totally open though, there’s a couple ideas:

-Warrior + guardian = teamfight menace. Warrior is already a great teamfighter/point fighter, but when you add in prot from the guardian and extra stab and cleanees, it’s a beast. Any bow spec for warrior is strong (hambow/axebow/gslb)
-Guardian + good roamer (thief/maybe mesmer). Assuming you can communicate well, it’s a big advantage to have a high mobility roamer that can pressure other points, but rotate back when the guard needs help. Thief is the king there, but mesmer can be great fun with portal. Not to mention you can portal your guardian into teamfights when needed.

Condi necro is also good. You get free burning access from the Guardian, Stability (which you lack) and Protection, plus Might. You can literally melt opponents as a condi necro when you’re near a Guardian.

best success I’ve found is duoqing with our thief. Him being able to +1 fights while I -1 fights is really helpful and in duoqs we have communication across the whole map usually. It’s also a good far pushing 2v2 comp.

Probably d/d ele or war…managed to stay pretty long time 2v3 on bunker guard paired with war or ele…ele can also heal guard while he is on cd…and remember that those are the only 2 with pretty much no real hardcounter, every other class can be countered by someone…if you go with mes and there’s a thief you’re gonna end up 1v2 pretty fast, if you have nec and they have war same story, engi vs condi necro….and so on….guard+ele or guard+war best imo, and if needed one of those can still leave point to bunker somewhere else while other class can’t always do…another good duo (For far push) it’s war + s/d thief (Ripping stab for you) since you can bring ppl down pretty fast if you coordinate decently…but not so good to hold something 2v3 since only war have good point presence and he’s gonna get almost all the kitten spammed on point and thieves are always vulnerable to other thieves (Probably the first one coming to backup their close)

Its like pairing up with a healer. Any profession works.

I’ma say condi engi. Condi engis do SUPREMELY well in team fights where their poison and ability to burn down opposing bunker guards match well the bunker guard’s purpose of being a team fight supporter. In other words, if you’re playing a bunker guard and have a condi engi on your team then you can go ham with team support while knowing the other guardian is having a hell of a hard time dealing with all the condis.

In addition a condi engi also receives support to the extent that it makes up for a few of their own weaknesses like condi clear and long-term on-point capability.

A dps guard. Neither gonna die, one can spec for cc, the other for brute force.
Trap ranger
Glassbow ranger
Evis warr
Glass staff ele
Condimancer

A dps class if you want to cap a point since the guard deals no dmg and the dps calls will get support, save rezz, save stomp and so on.
If you just want to bunker it when it belongs to you then use a class with high cc like hambow or such.

Celestial ele or axe/sword/bow war with bunker guard either of these specs will have ridiculous survivability and with perma 25 stacks of might will do alot of damage at the same time.

Clearly almost any class. A necromancer is perhaps the worst choice though since some heals would be wasted on death shroud.

I would have picked an ele or warrior though. Lots of AOE and hard to kill in their own right.

A condi warrior.

Bunker Guardian + D/D Celestial Ele is one of the best 2v2’s on your node. You can win most matchups by attrition and 2v3 for a substantial amount of time, leaving your dps to lock down another node and rotate in for a teamfight.

The Only problem is that in this situation you have both your support on one node, meaning that if your dps are stuck in a straight up 3v3 they can be disadvantaged.

Ironically bunker guards can struggle with conditions since their cleanses are either long CD or small (albeit team wide). This is one reason ele pairs so well with them.

When your guard has to blow his virtue of resolve for cleanse is when the fight starts to go south.
