This is a big issue for almost all block and counter skills. Skills such as ranger GS counter and illusionary riposte have animations for the counter tha are so long that the player can be bursted and killed when they activate. There are no evade frames on some and most root the defender with the animation.

Sometimes you put yourself at higher risk using these counters than just taking the hit. For counters to work they must be quick, protect the defender (evade frames), and apply immediate or decisive effects without interrupting the flow of battle (no or little animation root).

An example of an effective counter would be to replace the current ranger GS animation with the same evasive slash that ends the autoattack chain and apply the pushback to that.

I’d have to agree Scepter/Sword-offhand blocks for mesmer might screw you rather then do any good… abilities which pulse multiple times will wreck you..

Evade frames and an interrupt function for counters would be a nice addition.

I kind of agree, though I feel a lot of these are very anticipation heavy. Combat flow still feels fine vs the slow and decisive hits like a hammer warrior trying to smack you around. But since there are so many chains and linking combos the after effect being so slow feels so bad.

I think it’d be kind of nice if for example I-Riposte dazed the target you hit so your not screwed by animation lock during the follow up.

Or if warrior riposte gave a block until the animation finished beyond the inital.

I dunno personally I have no real issues Rangers Counterattack, I find it flows better than most of these blocks, and in terms of animation locking I haven’t noticed it to be a hinderance.

They should become chain skills.

If it blocks then the skill turns into the counter attack skill for you to use like Larcenous Strike.
