Ya but we’ve known these features were coming for a very, very long time.
Hence my very specific word choice ‘nothing new here’.
It’s essentially a blog post that sums up the other posts of the previous months.
I think the only newish thing that I personally saw was that they are going to revamp how rewards are distributed.

Did we watch the same video? Where exactly does Colin speak of any of the things you mentioned?
And no, the blog post isn’t up yet – at least not somewhere I could find.
In the video what colin actually says about the PvP:
“And finally we’ll be expanding on the PvP systems, add more functionality that both the more casual players are looking for – so it feels more rewarding and there’s a stronger sence of progression in PvP – and for the competative gamers the tools that they need that allow themselves to grow as a competative community.”
And that is very vague, so to speak, not at all confirming any of the features you felt were announced through the video.

Also thr new achievement rewards system which sounds great amd can’t wait for it, I realize loads of people bought this game for PvP specifically, that was my initial reason also.
Sure the matchmaking would make things that much more interesting and fare, the system is still in development, I’m sure it’s pretty hard to implement, the formula should take in considerations several variables like:
-win/loss ratio
-max rank
-max number of stats achieved
and so on.
New skins and rewards are coming too along the spectator mode, which I really missed, much more than matchmaking…let’s just have patience, for most changes will have to wait few more months

The video has a writeup, they do mention somewhere in there the things he listed.
My problem is that, what he listed as new / interesting things, have been mentioned for months by the Devs.
Dog and pony show blog post.

A-net is terrible at communication. Say what you will about Blizzard at least they openly communicate with their playerbase. All you have to do is go to mmo-champion or their website directly and see the difference.
Oh darn, I’m such a tool.. there is a blogpost up … and OP actually properly linked it.
But yeah, I agree with you Defektive:
The Specator mode was announced even before launch and was to be expected, coming from it being a pretty big part of the first game’s competative scene
Ladders have also been announced before launch, and were in the first game as well as we can find a ladder written in rock in the sPvP lobby place
But as for the matchmaking – the feature really is to be expected to accompany ladder system and thus not really a novelty aswell…
The blogpost doesn’t really fill me with hope for the competative scene though – the current payed tournament system hasn’t been mentioned and to be totally frank, only a change to an elo system and “team registry” – simmilar to other competative games – would really work in my opinion.

What in the hell are you trying to achieve with this post?.. get the kitten out, please.

If it isn’t obvious then you need to get the kitten out…Their communication is wretched.
You’re calling Blizzards paperpushers asigning devs a norm on daily blueposts and their stance on re-balancing the game in accordance to kittenness of the players that play a certain class/faction a good thing….
I won’t go into explaining why this is wrong and how it ultimately FAILED and is one of the reasons I only USED to subscribe to them.

No one cares that you USED to subscribe to them. A-net does a crappy job communicating and this “blog” post is another example of it.
I bet sPVP will be the last thing they implement a proper update to.
In terms of features we’ve wanted since launch.

I’m feeling you’re in for a communication with a mod. Now please, if you’ll be so kind as to not have this “pubescent boy” attitude to this thread any further… I’m pretty sure you’ll get banned faster if you make your own thread.

I’d bet on that aswell… I feel they have admited to themselves that they have failed to produce a competative enviorment with launch, and perhaps setting up a revamp for the first expansion.

Pot meet kettle…

The last part is simply perfect!

Because PvE is where the majority of players stay atm, of course their focus will be on PvE

Well perhaps it’s the other way around – Since there is so little focus and progression in the sPvP part of the game, people stopped frequenting it.

I understand that the majority of the playerbase is PVE oriented, but if they wish to maximize the amount of people playing to their game, they have to appeal to the large PVP community as well that is available to them. By focusing solely on PVE and hardly ever on PVP they’ll have a minimum amount of players. If they want the game to be a real e-sport they need to make PVP desirable to players, if they make little to no improvements to the PVP, it’ll be left dead and will never be taken seriously as a candidate for e-sports.
“If people listened to themselves more often, they would talk less”
“One must talk little and listen much”
“Know how to listen, and you will profit even from those who talk badly”
“Talk is cheap”
Some of those news may be interesting for some people, but not really for me, no new game types, personally i will stick with PvE and WvWvW =/, maybe only join it to test stuff in custom rooms since yet, no ‘duels’ are available and i dont think it will be in the rest of the year.
