Bring back hexes
That’s not a small thing.
The Dhuumfire thread
And what does the difference that it would make?
You think Condition is in such a bad spot that we need 2 versions of it exist at the same time?
I think it would give more choices in builds. Go for a hexes based build or a condition based build. You can balance condition damage and cleanse much better when there are fewer being spammed on you. Making choices about whether to cleanse the condition or the hexes. If the mets goes towards conditions then you bring more condition removal. If meta moves to hexes you bring more hex removal. If people are heavy on condition removal it makes hexes stronger or vice versa. More variety is better.
It would absolutely not be 2 of the same thing. Play some gw1 before you think that.
Hexes were used in GW because back then there was simply not enough technology to make the actions more instantaneous (mainly ping related). GW2 is not limited by that anymore.
This was addressed in one of the very very very early press release when GW2 was still newly released. You can look it up. Still around somewhere I think. It’s part of the article that talked about mesmer redesign.

You can go back to play GW1 if that make you more happier or more skilled. GW1 is all about monk save your a*s or go home. Without monk you can’t even walk around. GW2 isn’t GW1 and both game have its own worth but you shouldn’t compare the 2 with each other.
Gw2 is already hard enough to balance between Condi and Power adding Hex into that equation would only bring Build war to the game where player skill is no longer matter as long as you have the right build you will always win. The sad truth is, we already have this build war in the game where people would stun lock you forever or fear you to death. We already have enough card on the table we don’t need more but less.
as long as a trinity doesn’t exist in GW2, there will never be separated hex/condi
it worked in GW1 since fully dedicated support classes cough Monks could bring ridiculously powerful condi or hex removal skills to supplement the team facing either condi or hex pressure builds.
if hexes were to be introduced in GW2, matches could basically be decided before any engagements: if your team brought the right type of removals and used something that the other team didn’t have the removal for, you win, making it very much rock paper scissors like.
Hell even back in the pressure heavy meta in GW1 before shortened VODs in GvG, it was a bit of guessing game. Do you have your eles run monk 2ndary for draw condition, or mes 2ndary for hex breaker etc. No amount of removal for a “balanced” team is really enough removal if you faced a pure hexway or pure condi pressure build.
Face a condi team when your team wasted 2 slots for divert hexes? you were already fighting an uphill battle. Faced a pure hex team when your prot Monk ran restore conditions instead of peace and harmony? might as well /forfeit.
My mesmer need empathy too much melee in pvp
You’re assuming that it would be as many. Gw1 had tons and tons of hexes.
And I would love to go play gw1 again but anet killed it. No one plays. The pvp was far superior.
there is already a few “hexes” in gw2.
warrior sword 4 impale
= 4 seconds single target hex, applies torment each second.
necro plague
= 20 seconds mobile pbaoe hex, applies poison and various conditions around necro each second.
thief pistol 5 black powder
= 4 seconds stationary pbaoe hex, apply blind every 2 seconds.
yeah, we could use more “hexes” in gw2.
Ofc the pvp in GW1 was superior, it was perhaps the best designed pvp game ever.
heck, Anet originally intended for the game to be 100% pvp, with PvE being only there to teach you the mechanics and level your character up to 20 and acquire max gear.
then they found out most of the player base would rather griffin farm for 30 plats per run than gvg and started catering the game towards the PvE crowd.
Oh my, the nostalgia :’( . For the first time in 4 years, I went back to visit my page of mesmer domination skills and seeing the hexes… http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Domination_Magic

this is still true for gw2.
hence everything here is simplified.
i think there are already hexes in the game, in the form of pre-condition for extra damage e.g. +10% damage to burning foe, +5% damage to weakened foe etc etc….
Archeage = Farmville with PK
Hex’s are in the game. See Mesmer> Illusions/shatters

except in Gw2, the game was designed from the ground up with PvE in mind since they learned from Gw1 that no matter how little end game content you put in, most of the player base would prefer to grind PvE instead of PvP.

absolutely not.
Everything will be decided by metagaming the other team and team setups will revolve around spamming either conditions, or hexes, since you cannot clear them both to a decent degree.
