Sense HoT there has been a lot more power creep. Combat feels more like spamming all your skills off cooldown and the outcome of the fight is decided by comp and numbers. Pre HoT the game felt much more skill based, dodges mattered much more, timing was important. I also want to play some of the base specs again and almost none of them are really viable atm.

They will when the next expansion gets closer. The new expansion will come with all new elite builds to replace the old nerfed elite builds so anyone who wants to be competitive is forced to buy another expansion. Guaranteed.

“… the elite specs should be balanced so you don’t need to have them in PvP, but can choose to use them if you like. There are plenty of top tier PvP builds today a P4F player can walk in and instantly use, that will still be true when HoT ships. " ~Colin

The solution to this problem, is the opposite of your tittle. Core specs should be brought up to par with elite spec, not elite spec brought down to core specs level (like the tittle suggest). Also devs should keep in mind that the core specs are what makes every profession unique, while the majority of elite specs make every profession look like another that was already in game (i.e. DH is a glorified trapper Ranger, Berserker is a glorified torch Guardian, etc.), and even though I’m not saying that’s a bad thing (I love elite specs regardless), it is truly a horrible design flaw. And considering that fact, I don’t see why create a power creep scenario, when we could’ve had elite specs and core specs on par, giving everyone the opportunity to play their profession any way they like (which logically is the idea behind having different specs), hence making builds more diverse, and the overall game more fun. That said, I also believe, like some stated above above, they forgot the purpose of having specs, and instead thought of their own sells, where new expansion, new elite spec = opportunity for power creep and force the cash in (with the potential, almost certainty, of repeating itself come next xpac). And that right there is sad.

I agree with what was said about bringing the core specs up to were elite specs are but the overall power creep in the game needs to be managed or a better word for it would be to stream line it. There are way too many abilities and passives that do way to many things at once this causes in general bad play to not go punished especially in pvp. Hopefully they continue seperating skills from pvp and pve like they did in this last patch

No, you are wrong and OP is correct.

The problem with elite specs is not only that they’re too powerful compared to core, but more that they’re too forgiving and do too many things well. The only way to fix that is to nerf elite specs and the associated power creep.
