My experience as a guardian is that the only class I find really irritating are mesmers. Warriors and thieves are manageable. Also, eles and necros aren’t weak, the really good builds they use just aren’t as well known.

Any one notice that the recent QQ threads are:

Plx nerf thieves and <insert any other class>? Everyone pretty much agrees on thieves, well except bad thieves.

The most common defense for an OP class is “game isn’t designed for 1v1s” and “L2P”. L2P is kinda funny, with thieves its: “if you use your class to its optimal potential and learn to dodge you have a chance against my 1-2 button mashing skilless play style.”

Why all the necro hate, I enjoy playing necro and do really well in every game. I think the general consensus is maybe theives are abit more forgiving then other classes but not face roll so to speak. My main is a warrior but I only roll support/cc build since I’m not a big fan of the GS or rifle setups. Never played Ele or Gaurd but even the engineer although not as versatile in “optimal builds” still is really good in spvp.

But yeah the necro is good stuff and a real tough cookie if specced right Give it a go.

I play a necro and I still have a long ways to go till I can even say I’ve “mastered” the class. With that said however, I can destroy any class 1v1 as well as hold my own 1v2 or even 1v3 if the other players are newer to PvP or arent experienced with their profession.

The Necro is far from weak in PvP and can be built for a variety of playstyles. The class just requires multiple skill use as well as good positioning.

Any class that can press 2 buttons and kill someone with no set up required is a bit over the top. Yah yah yah you need to dodge you need to this you need to that and you do the hokey pokey and you shake it all about is crap. No class should have that kind of burst. Burst is meant to be a finisher not an opener and finisher all in one. After playing every mmo known to man in the last 20 years I am a bit knowlegable about pvp. SWtoR had Sentinals and Shadows and it made it no fun unless you were one of those classes. This game has thieves and warriors. Problem is when a really good pvp’er plays one of these classes they are unbeatable. Never mind the scrubs who play the class and are still a handful.

Warriors are far from OP.

I’m a ranger, and I don’t think I’ve lost vs any warriors in tournament matches. I’m not saying I’m amazing, just that warriors are so easy to kite, to dodge and chase down (they have no good escape mechanics like many of the other classes do).

Their downed insta-revive skill is a bit strange though?

I think 1 v 1s are by and large balanced. It’s in team fights where all the different mechanics of the game come together to make certain classes extremely powerful compared to others.

I’d also disagree that necros are useless. They can spec so as to be virtually unkillable while pumping out some seriously frightening damage. Elementalists are ok, though I have come across some CC heavy builds which I couldn’t do much against. That was on my Ranger, though, and CC is the end of any Ranger.

No as I said before they are good in practice as well. What do you base a classes worth on? Just weather it can kill “x” class? Serious question. It might not have upfront raw damage, but it has tons of utility including great group utility compared to most classes. Is that not worth anything? And it can outlast most 1v1 situations. It might not face roll every spec in the game, but no class should. It’s a great class.

I went that route and even use minions…I didnt lose my damage. We usually end up losing a lot of condition damage…but not straight up damage, which is fine since I don’t really worry about conditions. The problem people have with Necros is that in order to do serious damage, you need to have more than one setup and skills to be available in order to overwhelm an opponent/group. When my relative short cooldowns are down though, I have plenty of options and ways to keep myself up such as CC and Death Shroud as well as can drop back and take up a support role by switching to staff.

Against real competition, (pro tip: not in spvp) you will get cc’d, dodged, and if you do manage to land bull rush anyone with stability or invulnerability still counters it. It actually takes a lot of skill to land it against good players. Ive played as and against both classes and I have no problem countering them. Pretty sad how you say you’ve played every mmo over the past 20 years, you sound like a whining teenage girl. Good players adapt and learn counters, bad players come to the forums and cry, get better or go back to wow or league.

If your a Engi your pistol shot causes a 2 second bleed on auto attack. You burn on critical if you took that talent. But you still cause constant bleeds. Your stacks won’t be super high based off auto attack alone but its still a bleed and its basically free.

Every profession requires multiple skill use and good positioning, and Necros aren’t particularly difficult to play. Like Ele’s, we only have one or two viable builds right now, which are well-support and condition management.

Yes? But bleed stacks by intensity, if you can only stack 2-5 stacks it’s pretty crappy. Necro Scepter 1 also does damage + applies bleed + applies poison, the bleed lasts longer, and necro has better talent support.

The Engi pistol 1 used to be a lot better, but they nerfed the hell out of it around BWE3.

Engi’s get burn from: Rocket boots, Flamethrower ammo, Blowtorch, Crits (with trait), Bomb kit 2, and probably some others I’ve forgotten.

At this point I’ve forgotten the original point that was even being discussed!

And yes, Conditionmancer with tank stats is very strong. They’re great at bunkering.

By far the most common thing in MMO’s upon release is a ton of players who understand very little about classes jumping on one or two classes demanding nerfs. Then when those are nerfed, they start complaining about different classes that were apparently fine before but now are magically out of balance.

The end result is either the nerfs screw the game up and people leave end masse or the devs have to constantly rotate the fotm classes so everyone gets a chance in the sun.

The best thing to do is wait until the playerbase figures the game out before making changes.

Necro must be such a huge credit to teams in your opinion then. Here’s how useful ‘your’ necro sounds:
- bad at 1v1 -> bad at skirmishing/cap points
- can’t hold 1v3 for good -> can’t hold points
- poor CCs and condition damages

As a business, you cater to the people who are still playing your game 3 months after release.

The fact of the matter is that the average MMO player buys a new game at launch, plays for a month and then moves on to a new game or back to an old one that had previously played long term (usually happens to be their first MMO as well). Everytime a company has rushed nerfs out the door in the first month the still lose the 30 day playerbase but have now also made another portion of their long term playerbase unstable.

Adjustments to classes are usually needed. However if the game is to have longevity, these adjustments need to be approached slowly and carefully. Blindly listening to the kneejerk reaction of people who have played the game for less than 30 days (a lot of which are simply riding the popularity wave and have done very little actual research into the design intent and goals of the game) is always a bad decision.

The best course of action? Acknowledge that you hear what people are complaining about and that you’re looking into it. Then they should look at the numbers on their own end of things over a good period of time (more than 30 days imo) and determine if those numbers are inline with design intent or not. If not inline, then look for ways to adjust.

Learn how to counter these professions…trust me, it’s possible. I have zero issues with 99% of HS spammers and 100B Warriors, sorry…
