Can i say pvp is becoming extremely unfun??
I’m not talking about the matchmaking. I’m talking about build diversity, and top tier OP classes – reaper, revenant and scrapper and then everything else are trash. It’s not fun to pvp anymore and yet Anet failed to see what is wrong with these top tier classes.

Build Diveristy IS bad but when ur naming those OP, u shouldnt forget that one who’s the 4th in the meta.

Well, it’s more that we went from all Bunker to all Burst Meta and it’s even more “unfun” now. I have no clue why it’s so hard for the Devs to reel in the extremes? My tin foil hat say’s that balancing is more about what’s more entertaining for the Streaming Audience than fun for the player base.

Naturally build diversity takes a nose dive when every build you make has to fulfill basic requirements before you even think about how you want to play.

My feeling is that most of the designers that worked on the classes for HOT have been moved to other projects leaving a much smaller number of staff working on ongoing balance. They are trying to balance by removing amulets which is very much a blunt object.

8/9 classes represented in the Meta/Great categories with about half of those having multiple builds. Sure, Warriors are still hurting, but for the most part it seems like most classes have their spot in the meta. The new season just hit so everyone is generally playing what they know works and will deviate when they hit a wall or don’t want to play the same thing anymore.
Sure there’s a ton of work to be done on balance but it’s absolutely not any worse than when I was heavily playing PVP a year ago when 3+ classes simply had no build that was considered good in the meta.
I just came back to the game after not playing for 2 years and I am finding it extremely not fun. Feels like the damage is out of control. Everyone just drops in a few seconds in group fights.

thats because the old style builds are totaly changed Ham/bow is no more and People that return to gw2 are still use to the Beserker/damage>burst meta plus ontop of that they don’t spec for sustain at lower Ranks so its just a Mash fest untill people get out of Amber , im not even going to try untill a week or so passes.
This is the most enjoyable meta for me thus far. Fights actually require reaction time and knowledge of other people’s abilities. Teamfights can be a clusterkitten with all the reaper and dh AoEs, but 1v1s and 2v2s are the most fun theyve ever been for me.
You can call me biased because I main necro, but ive been winning with any build, glassy condis or full zerker greatsword. Ive also been playing a lot of thief when the teamcomps allow it, and that is by far the best thief has ever felt to me. Rev feels scaled down from last season, but more build diversity imo.
TL;DR: this is the healthiest meta as far as I remember with only mesmers and warriors being shafted (and those that dont own HoT).

Yes, it it really is, and the metabuilds dominating other builds. Especially necro and scrappers. And with the last corrupt boon pacth, necro is just broken.. I think we all have experienced atleast 5 or more matches with 4++ necros these days.

This is the problem. Why is this even the case? Why is it so hard to achieve consistent balance? Why are we getting “meta shakes” every 3 months?

Thats not a meta build.
Its a support build but it loses in 1 vs 1 and it can only give support. The old bunker guardian build could stalemate any 1 vs 1 situation and give team support. A ele should lose a 1 vs 1 to many classes.
Build diversity is definitely not as good as pre-HoT. Pre-HoT we had
- 1 stronger build (D/D ele)
- 6 balanced classes, with (limited but a few) possible variations
- 1 weaker class (ranger)
No we have
- over OP: Rev, Scrapper, Reaper
- very OP: tempest, druid
- mildly OP: chrono, DD, DH
- balanced: warrior
