Silentshoes (Thief), Wind of the Woods (condi ranger)

I find that hotjoin and SoloQ are much more enjoyable if my “unit of measure” is individual battle skirmishes. Usually on a point.
I think of each one as a “mini game” within the game. If I do well, I feel good about it. If I lose, I just think about what I might do better in that situation, and just go on to the next skirmish.
Sure, I try to win at the beginning of a match.
But if my teammates are clearly outgunned, or not rotating or not trying to claim points, I go right to Plan B: finding interesting skirmishes and trying to play my char effectively.

yeah i should adopt my mindset to behave as such as well.
its what i did back in 8 vs 8 hotjoin anyway, try to survive the mess.
when life gives us lemons, we make lemonade!
This is exactly the mindset I take – playing games within a game.
For me, when one team has a 200-pt lead within the first few minutes, I go into “skirmish mode” UNLESS I see my team really trying.
I sometimes aim for some personal victories myself such as successfully soloing a “hambow” Warrior, or knowing that I am not going to win the fight but attempting to keep the point capped or de-capped for as long as I can last against some superior numbers. Keeping three of the opposing team occupied for as long as I can often times gives my teammates the time they need to get some back-caps. Yeah, I lose and die but I am happy I made them work for it.
Thanks.
yeah it seems like we need really to change our mindsets for good when playing in hotjoin.
after reading what evan posted it seems like they do not have the resources for any major fixes anytime soon.
I use to play spvp in limited amounts and thats how I used to play the game just fight see how many people i can kill see how many i can troll. Though when rewards with the April 15th patch came in I started to play to win.
It boils down to the fact that the overall match result is only partly affected by your skill, whether you play above the average expectation with your class/build or not – but the match outcome is always fairly largely affected by factors beyond your control.
However, achieving higher than average success in varying situations within a match (some of which have been mentioned in here) is always affected and determined by your skill with your class/build.
While these situations mostly go unrecognised and unrewarded, they are by far the better measuring stick for self evaluation and measure of success/skill.

Very true, Curunen !
I like to challenge myself at times when spectating and hotjoin the losing team, as long as they aren’t to unreasonably behind, to see if I can help pull them up
If they are further than 25% behind, I just continue to spectate. I don’t get into joining the winning side in hotjoins unless the margin is very narrow and I like the composition.
