Question about both sPVP and WvW:

If im in a party with 1-2 friends (total 2-3 people), how do we queue as a team???

Yesterday friend wanted to WvW so we both queued for crystal desert at same time… he got queue in 10min, and I was allowed in 1.5 hour later…. Totally dumb. No queue as party option?? So we both enter the BG at same time?

Then we went to heart of mists, and again, found no “Join as party” option, so we both picked same server to join, and he ended up on diff team, and it shuffled every match, since the teams were maxed, it was hard to switch to his team, and vice versa….

What am I missing? This seems pretty poor design.

WvW has no join as party but you can party up once in.
sPvP you can join as a team but there is no guarantee your be on the same team. This is working as they intended from what i have read to avoid pre-mades steam rolling.

WvW needs join as team.
sPvP needs an option where you can play pre-mades or not. Its not fun to not be able to sPvP with your friends on the same team, but when I play solo I would like to not be playing a pre-made.

This is my #1 beef with GW2. I play the majority of my time with my fiance and we play casually, which means we don’t want to mess with tournaments. Unfortunately, this means that we just skip sPvP since we almost always eventually get pitted against each other.

It’s a shame they can’t take a page from many other games that simply use queue logic to put pre-grouped teams against other pre-grouped teams. This would keep games fair for players queuing by themselves as well as those who join with friends.

This doesn’t work here because you choose which server you join yourself, the game doesn’t create the matches one at a time with full matchmaking like most other games do.

The best solution I can give you is to just play together and keep an eye out for the chance to swap teams when you end up on opposing sides.

For a game that was advertised for casuals, this is ridiculous, to not be able to play on the same team with ease.

I agree with the OP. I work a lot of hours and bought the game under the assumption that me and my brother could team together in PvE and even do some competitive gaming together with PvP. It’s just the two of us and we’re casual players, so tournaments are not a good match. I just want to PvP a little with my brother without going through a lot of hassle and I’m befuddled this functionality doesn’t exist in a game with such high production values in pretty much all other areas…

I agree with the sPvP option. This need to be implemented fast. The WvW thing is a nuisance but probably harder to put in due to queue times unless all 5 party members queue in under the leader but that might be hard to program in.

or they can allow friends to pay together, AND have balance on that issue, by just matching up premades with premades and pugs with pugs.
it’s THAT easy, and everyone is happy.

They already have an sPvP system for Premade vs Premade it’s this thing called free tournament. You just sign up as a team/premade and voila you play against other teams/premades. If that doesn’t suit your needs just kitten off really. :S No need for premades in the “Hot joinable”

Read the thread before posting next time. That DOES NOT work here since you are free to join any server you like. It works in games that create 1 game at a time and does full matchmaking, it does not work in a game with static servers that run a map rotation and anyone can join any server with a free spot.

I was told to NOT do tournaments as just 2 people, because there are entire teams of 5-8 players playing in them. So if me and 1 friend were to queue in tournament, then we’d be matched against a team thats fully coordinated and it’d be a team of 8 vs my team of 2 + randoms, and we’d get steam rolled.

That was the general consensus on how tournaments work in this game. Basically, unless I have a full 8 player team, don’t bother….

This doesnt seem very well thought out, unless someone didn’t explain correctly.

He got the queue in 10 min (we both qeuued within 5sec of one another… we even did a countdown…5…4..3…2…1..QUEUE!), mine took another hour to queue…….

It felt like WvW has some limit on # of classes or the # of “level ranges” that can join @ 1 point to make it balanced? (we were both in our early 20s…) If that’s what caused my insane delay, it kind of makes sense, I mean you don’t want a bunch of level 20s queueing WvW and being matched vs a bunch of level 80s (trait advantage).

So yeah, that really was unusual, usually my WvW queues are 15 min, but that time it was almost an hour!!

This doesnt seem very well thought out, unless someone didn’t explain correctly.

Tournaments are 5v5. There are a large amount of pug groups doing it (either solo or in groups of 2 or 3), so your odds of meeting a fellow pug group aren’t that bad. Though there are also a lot of 5 man guild groups (not all of which are noticeably better than your average pug group).

If I’m playing with just ONE friend, I don’t want to be matched against a full team of 8 people, and have to deal with 6 randoms on my team…

small correction, tourneys are 5v5 so you have 3 others on your team that are probably doing what you were doing, namely playing with their friends.

There needs to be a feature to let a group of 2-3 people join an 8v8 match and stay on the same team. It will kill sPvP for most of the players if this feature isn’t implemented. As was stated before, a lot of people play with a friend/relative/SO, and they don’t want to do tournaments, they just want to do normal BGs together.

The line of thinking that you don’t want premades dominating normal BGs is a valid concern, but telling the players that they can do tournaments together doesn’t make any sense either. Think about it, you’re saying that you don’t want to let a group of 2 people join an 8v8 because it won’t be fair to the other team, but you want those same 2 people to join a tournament where there is a good chance that they will face a 5 man premade in a 5v5 match. That makes absolutely no sense at all.

Just let groups of 2-3 people join regulard BGs as a group.

It’s funny how people find it ‘unfair’ to join tournaments with their party of 2-3 because of the possibility of being matched up against larger organized groups while they find it ‘fair’ to join Hotjoins with a party of 2-3 where they would have the advantage of being a bit more organized.
And yes, I do think that parties of 2-3 would alter the balance of hotjoins unfair compared to the present system of shuffling random players.

But 1 is going to occur a lot more often than 2. Also, if a group of 2 players can dominate a server then kudos to them, they it deserve for being that good. AND, people can just join a different server.

I really don’t see 2 people being able to dominate a server unless the teams don’t get balanced after each match. I have only done sPvP a few times (due to the fact that I can;t play with my friends) so I don’t know how the balancing works, but they could make it like Call of Duty does. After the end of each match, the players with the highest points are split between the teams, but the groups stay together. So if a group of 2 is dominating and they have the highest points in the match, then for the next match put the 3rd, 4th, 5th, highest players on the other team.

Or, they could make it so you can only join in a group via the quick join feature, and it won’t place you in a server until you another group of the same size joins so that way it will be group vs group with pugs on both sides.

There are so many ways to do it and make it fair that I expect Anet to implement at some point in time.

In no way shape or form should the random Spvp matches be removed. Period, end of story. The reasons for this have been explained multiple times and you can find a thread about it on this very forum with an Anet reply in it. They do no want groups rolling over pugs. This includes full groups, half groups, etc. No you cant queue with your sister or your finance or you little brother into Spvp unless you are doing the tourny system and this is WORKING AS INTENDED FOR THE GOOD OF THE MASSES.

If Anet wants to add in some seperate party/group Spvp beyond the Tournament system they have already provided you with, so be it. It will have longer queue times so be prepared to come gripe about that if it is implemented.

Mods this thread should be merged into the existing thread. We do not need to go over this stuff ten times. There is already an Anet reply on it.

i know this because every day we are destroying random pugs much more than we are playing against 5 mans, and it gets really boring.

matchmaking needs a lot of work, its not fun for anyone to have 2 teams of different levels playing against each other

Because they don’t want to do tournaments as a group of just 2, they would rather play 8v8s and not 5v5s. Or the matchmaking system is broken, like many other things in this game are right now. Or many people don’t know that you can join tournaments with less than 5.

Exactly, it is nice to have these type of matches, but it is not something a huge group of players is doing. Most people do Spvp (random) or WvW.. Anet is not about to let the Spvp (random) turn into a pub stomping extravaganza.
