D/D ele should make a return as a glass cannon imo, in which case would mean the d/d weapon set needs a buff to direct damage, we can then compensate by allowing a nerf to potential condition dmg. After that it should recive slight adjustment to some of the weapon abilities allowing it to mitigate potential dmg dealt to you. These abilities should be short in duration so they must be used at a very specific time in order to properly block damage, with enough potential dmg mitigater skills we can then compensate by toning down the healing potential on dagger water 5, my suggestion is to allow it to block for a short duration and if it does then have it heal for the damage that would have been dealt, or something of this manner.
Dude I am 100% there with you with s/d acro thief being one of the more fun builds in this game.
The entire reason Celestial D/D was taken out (Nerfhammered) was because classes like D/D ele had too much sustainability along with the ability to do damage. Thats why anet removed it
AND THAT WAS COMPLETELY POINTLESS BECAUSE NOW WE HAVE TEMPEST
So I really think more amulets similar to celestial and making D/D more viable again would be nice. I kinda miss fighting those guys

Hell yeah man, fighting zerker shatter mez was such a rush before hot, a 1v1 for your life which you could lose in a matter of seconds if you were not careful. Ugh I miss how this game was before hot…. And if they added into a fight of yours… Oh god. Its kinda sad mesmer or chrono rather is now usually played like a herpa kitten I press all my shatters and I tank stuff, my dmg sucks but I dun die.

ye all of the builds mentioned would be a very great addition to the current meta. this policy of anet to allow only 1 build per class is beyond frustrating.

God i loved that build. Had to play mes for 6 months straight until I hated it to be able to understand how to counter it. Can’t say the same for other builds.
Looking back at things now, I seemed to play a lot more builds pre-HoT. Would like to see condi signet ele back.
HoT specs are just way too powerful. They killed the fun because they’re far too forgiving of mistakes or poor ability use. The only way to make GW2 PvP fun again is to nerf HoT specs down to reasonable levels.
The condi/cc mesmer right now is preventing a lot of builds like that even trying to come back.
For instance, any on-point fighter that doesn’t have a high up-time of stability and/or plentiful evades is going to be unable to contest a point vs a mesmer. This forces engineers to go scrapper.
D/D ele would be in the same boat except they can’t build for toughness, healing power, and damage anymore, so there isn’t much point to dagger off-hand; they need their base toughness increased, i.e. bring armour categories closer in-line or move ele up one.
S/D acro thief was kind of lame, but I did like S/D when it was 10/30/0/0/30. Unfortunately even with acro now, revenant does the job better, and revenants can counter S/D’s rotations pretty easily.
Power necro I don’t think was ever competitive. In fact, I’d say it’ closer to being competitive now than it ever was, just no one runs it because condi version has boon corruption, and the direct damage can be done by a thief or revenant. Or perhaps the build just isn’t well known (Spite/Soul Reaping/Reaper Staff+Dagger/Warhorn, Close to Death and +15% attack speed in shroud).
Shatter mesmer is kept out from the nerfs it took with HoT that removed the trait to refresh shatters at 50% health, the energy sigil nerf affecting clone on dodge, and revenants being able to stick to them, evade/block everything, and land their burst even through stealth and ports.
So...
...Tone condi/cc mesmer down
...Get rid of passively stacking stability which will no longer be necessary and is so lame anyway
...Bring back celestial amulet with perhaps slightly reduced stats, or at least new 4-stat amulet with 1050 power, 1050 healing, 560 vit, 560 tough, or even a 5-stat with 600 power, 600 healing, 600 vit, 600 tough, 600 <condi/prec>

Well from a rev PoV we would rather have a cone type attack than what we have because it’s unreliable.

It was stupid because of sentinel amulet.
But it took arena.net another year to figure out that having those tanky amulets around isn’t necessarily a good thing.

D/d ele was only viable because of sustain and might stacking. Even if they had the optimal stats (vitality toughness healing) it doesn’t matter since might stacking was nerfed and revs can get the same amount of might from pressing a button.
IMO the days of d/d being a good damage class is over.
I’d much rather anet focused their efforts on making s/x a viable dps build.

Have you tried something like Mercenary ammy with runes of divinity and might stacking sigils? Or if your damage is good enough trade out your runes for a defensive or hp runes?

The thing is you need to work very hard, wasting dodge/blast/sigil to get the same amount of might that Rev can press one button for. Not to mention the Rev facet gives might to the whole team.
Since they removed Celestial, they should buff the damage multiplier for D/D back up. It doesn’t need to be too high, about 10-15% from the current one would be a good start. Also buff active defense, but keep the sustain to be the same right now though. We don’t want immortal D/D to make a come back.

Every build in the game should be balanced around power shatter mes like they supposedly did with warrior at release. It’s the best example of “Risk during set up”, “reward”, and “counter play”. That all builds should have. =b

I honestly miss the days where you could put trait points wherever you wanted. It allowed for a whole lot more viable variations that added spice. Hell I used to change my build on one toon multiple times a day because I had so many variations on each that I liked to play.
Nowadays anet actually balances around “metas” on purpose which completely destroys build diversity.
I think this is my favourite forum post to date. A lot of great points made. I really hope the devs read this.
As a side point I used to play a lot of mes and rev, I hate the meta for both professions. They’re boring to play
