I feel as if Anet gets confused. Balance will come with time like all great mmos. You guys cause them to lose focus. What we need is a ranked ladder or rating system with teams that have a penalty when you leave them sort of like in wow when your team rating gets reset then we need rewards. thats just for the everyday competitive pvpers. Then we need custom arenas for an esports movement. There is a space for this type of game in esports. This game is fantastic, anet is just to busy with PVE.

From now on all post should be to ADD a ladder, Add a ladder, Add a ladder.

If there is no character progression in pvp no one will play we need bragging rights and titles.

The game is super different then wow. I think no one will troll you anet if you adopted there arena system similar to how they take the best things for every game and mods.

Ladder / rankings are already in the game.

If you lose a match your rank goes down.

If you leave a match it counts as a loss on your record.

You don’t get ranked/ratings in Hot Join.

Custom Arenas are on the back burner according to ANet.

All that’s really left to ask is to throw balancing a bone.

The bad balance drives too many people away from sPvP. It should be a priority. The current balance only favors people who like to play some specific professions. People who like the less fortunate professions tend to just give up on sPvP.

They do balance it, but they balance it around how well a class can take/control a point. It shows. Look at engineer, least played class. Considered underpowered by many, however they have great point control and every patch they get nerfed in their ability to point control (grenades most of the time), this doesn’t help the classes number at all.

i’ll try not to say the dreaded “w” word, but a certain MMO beginning with w, which many would consider to be a very successful MMO has a very nice approach to balance, things that need changing get changed the classes are’nt just poked and prodded with a stick for 6 months changing borderline nothing, things get done.
after 6 months it should seem clear to everyone that Anet’s “baby steps” approach tweaking minor things every few months, isn’t doing jack.

What shaolin said.

Soon there will be no one left who could make use of custom arenas, spectactor mode or whatever.

Its obvious a budget issue. But yea, balance is a big one, but balance is a much larger task than it seems.

Also, i primarily play engineer and necromancer so i cant speak for every profession, but there always has been a general agreement that neither of these professions are in a good spot (however engineers randomly are considered good when someone stumbles onto something, only to later be nerfed and then are forgotten about again for awhile)

I’d say both suffer design flaws above the simple number tweaking that make them so difficult to balance.

Engineer’s turrets, RNG, kits have always brought up several concerns and problems.

Necromancers Deathshroud seems to be a big core to why they are difficult to balance and have problems, ontop of all else necromancers have ridiculous amount of cast times on half their abilities and lack certain tools that are needed in a more competitive environment.

Both seem to have the worst pet options, where gaurdian pets are more powerful, better designed and seem to have good AI.
Mesmer is THE pet class with the most powerful pets that they are pretty much built around.
Necromancer pets to this day have horrible AI, suffer from weak abilities tied to them, and dont regenerate health.
Engineer turrets generally dont offer a lot, (used to not scale now weirdly scale off condition damage if they do condition damage) are stationary limiting their use further, force you to give up your toolbelt skill while they’re alive.

So to have good, mobile, scaling pets…they need to have durations so it would seem.

anyway, this is just one example of where balance and in some case’s overhauls are still needed. And yes, it drives players away, no one wants to get serious or competitive about a game that is full of nub trap options.

If you are talking about WoW then i would have to disagree, one of the most frustrating things with that game was how often they made sweeping changes that completely changed a certain class from OP to unplayable while buffing something else to be OP. The most balanced state the game has arguably been in (TBC) only allowed for a couple of certain compositions to be competitive with almost whole classes and a lot of Specs being unplayable due to how bad they were.

I agree that more attention to balance would be great (hope to see more like the latest patch) but going the opposite way of massive sweeping changes is just as bad if not worse. Personally i would prefer seeing some buffs to different styles of play and unused abilities/traits with each profession rather than massive nerfs to the popular ones within reason, sometimes a spec is popular because it is too strong.

Am i the only person that wants GvG (best PvP ever played in my life was GvG in GW1).
HA was good too, but GvG allways gave me a good feeling. Even if we got roflstomped. It was just fun.

As I read somewhere in the forums, A-Net has made allready some thoughts about it. Things like how to scale the lords life etc.
But for now, what would you think of a automated tournament where only guilds can sign in? (sure a guild-ladder is required for that) Would this come near to your image of GvG in GW2?

Well, that would be a step in the right direction. But what i would like to see is a game-mode without the nodes. I would also like to see that GvG is 8v8 else splitting will create 2v2, 3v3 situations again where balance will ruin that xD

one of the most frustrating things with that game was how often they made sweeping changes that completely changed a certain class from OP to unplayable while buffing something else to be OP.

i’d disagree there, i thought it gave the game a taste of variety, there would be large changes for most of the classes and they’d happen often enough to keep things feeling like a brand new experience, plus the inability to instantly reroll the FOTM class was a blessing in disguise.

side note it was always great when the fotm got nerfed, the delicious salty tears as they roll their face over the keyboard and look up to see they did’nt automatically win, i’d love nothing more than to see the current D/D eles nerfed to hell.
