Q:
Yesterday I got teamed up with Falchii, he was top #4~6 in solo arena before match in solo arena.
We lost the match. and the result, my rank got decreased by around 50~100 rank, but this Falchii, this guy got only 5~7 rank decreased as the result. so still in top100, And in game he got the lowest score in a game (he played like, going far alone and died again and again). After the match his rank became #14, decreased by only 5~7, while i got my rank decreased by around 50~100.
idk why he got his rank decreased only by 5~7 while I got like 50~100 rank decreased per match lose?
He is def higher than my rank so if we lose, he should get more rank decreased than mine as a higher ranker. isnt it?
Isn’t it sorta ranking discrimination?

A:
So assume he had a rating of 2000 mmr, and you had a rating of 1500. You both drop by 100 mmr. However, at the top of the leader board, there appears to be wider gaps between people, because there are less of them. So, his 100 mmr drop to 1900 caused him to go down 7 people.
However, where you were there are many people with a similar mmr. So, although you both had the same mmr change, the 100 mmr drop for you made you lose many rankings. Conversely though, an mmr increase for you will make you gain many ratings.
Rank is based on a hidden value, called MMR. All players in a match lose or gain the same amount of MMR based on the other team’s average MMR. The space between ranks doesn’t necessarily represent an even spread of the space between MMR, while ranks is completely linear. You will probably gain a lot for winning a match, too.
He probably performed better in the match, it doesn’t seem like it is just a win/loss rating mechanic. The best player on the losing team doesn’t deserve to be penalized the same as the bad players on the losing team. Just as the people who were carried on the winning team don’t deserve as much credit as the good players.
I went from 900 to 650 and back in 2 matches once (it was not long after solo arenas). So the principal of wide swings at higher ranking is plausible.
I think the answer is deviation. It is explained here

Basicaly, the system is pretty sure that the #7 guys is a very good player. He played a lot of matches and was always at the top. So he wont lose as much, even though he lost to some1 far worse.
