Class balance
No, that would be bad. They could do the same thing they did with the elementalists during beta. They overnerfed them wayy to hard. Now they need additional buffs and/or bug fixes. Slow and steady is the way to go.
Yes, that would be good. The problem to slow balancing is that players not playing a FOTM end up suffering way too long before a balance is reached, and have more chance to get fed up and move to another game. Stronger buffs and nerfs keep the balance changing so everyone can feel more or less powerful at any point of time keeping the overall interest higher in the game. The thief, mesmer and bunker problems have certainly dragged long enough to impact the game negatively.
Overnerfing is a terrible idea and ruins games. Their overall approach is fine. I dont like the idea of the “balance changing” I like the idea of in a few months everything being more or less balanced and people being able to play their preferred style/profession over what so happens to be OP at that point in time.
Except that you lose players in the process because it takes too long for “justice” to happen. Might work out since it’s not subscription based though, but you ideally want to have the highest retention in any business.

LOL. Let me guess what class you play.
About 2 weeks before release they buffed thieves and mesmers through the roof, and nerfed ele into the ground. VERY kneejerk adjustments. But now that the game is released they take MONTHS before doing LITTLE adjustments.
The longer the wait the more players will quit the game.
I think they should do some minor nerfs to the OP classes, talents, and skills while buffing the least used classes, talents, and skills.
That not only moves toward balance without knee-jerk reactions, but also promotes variety in the game.
Anyone with half a clue would agree with Anets approach to balance.
Balance is a very fine thing, it doesn’t take much to tip the scales in either direction.
I think the theif and mesmer waahhhhhaaaaa OP NERF NERF NERF crowd need to get it into their heads that its mechanics which are driving such a thing, not being flat out OP as such.

God, would you stop it with the “ele so weak” QQ already. You’ve been a broken record on this subject for the past 2 months in both gw2guru and here. And you somehow have to bring this subject up in every single thread.
Any half-decent pvp player knows how good and viable eles are, so no, they didn’t “nerf them to the ground”. I neither play thief or mesmer btw, if you think I’m defending anything.
On topic:
Balance will come, it’ll just take a bit of time. In the meantime I’ll stay away from the FOTM, keep playing my profession that I chose in BWE1. I’ll stick to the playstyle I like and learn to play with the toys I have, rather than envy the neighbor kid’s ones.
It’s fine in theory while in practice it’s probably costing them unhappy players. Small nerfs are not the problem, it’s the time it takes to bring them in. At the current rate you expect overpowered builds to stay that way for months instead of weeks, plenty of time for people to get fed up. Time is an important variable.
I support slow approach.
You guys say “people will quit”. What do you think happens, wen they start throwing in huge nerfs/buffs. Same thing would happen – people would quit.
Balancing is double edged sword. On slow approach however there is a little plus. It helps the meta game evolve.
Everyone, who thinks drastic changes are needed, go make a little mod on some game (sc2/warcraft III for example) or pick up basic programming class in University / open Java (or Phyton) for dummies book and write a basic turn based rpg. Do it and then try to balance it. See how “easy” it is. :>

I forget what these buffs were.. what were they? (serious question)
@psy go take a look at the elementalist bug thread… we have 20+ broken traits and 80+ issues with skills.
And eles are not nerfed to the ground, but the only viable build is the bunker ele.

Various players who run either s/d or d/d balanced roamers in top tier teams (i.e. teams who win paids 24/7) would disagree with you.
As mentioned, any half-decent player knows that eles are strong in multiple roles.
Jonathan Sharp noted in another thread that there will be a “balance patch w/ the next major update.” It’s not clear if that’s Friday’s update or some time later in November, why don’t we just wait a couple days before losing our heads about their response to balance issues. It’s not like this game has been out for years and being neglected. I’d hardly call it unreasonable for anet to actually test changes before dropping major nerfs on the game.
I like the trim softly approach.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Ideally for me, it would be bug fixes ASAP, “balance” changes slow and steady just like they are doing. I think going easy on the nerf bat is the best approach and I applaud them for this.
It’d be great to see a rush on major bugs that are holding some classes way back along with that however.
I prefer good strong changes, at least if none have been done within a couple months, but the degree of bugs in this game makes that priority nr1 for me. Simply because they’ve done a horribly slow job on fixing major bugs so far. Endless loading screens, sure, they fixed that quickly enough, but pretty much every class is rife with bugs. Some making entire abilities and traits useless. Literally. Necro Gluttony trait does nothing.
I’ll never understand the anti-Mesmer whine. They don’t hit as hard as Thieves, they can’t run away like Thieves, and they can’t chase like Thieves. Mesmers will outplay you and win, but what’s wrong with that? If you’re in trouble, blast out of there. Mesmers are arguably the worst class at chasing once a target is out of 900/1200 range.
Some classes need some buffs, but Mesmers are treading a very thin line between “strong” and “complete trash.” If ANet listens to people who do not understand profession mechanics, PvP will suffer.

More damage on pretty much every single ability.

This.
It boggles my mind that we’re seeing balance changes made while every class has at least dozens of skill/trait bugs present. Making sure everything works as it’s supposed to should be top priority, and then you can see where the balance lies.
As it is, we’re seeing a bunch of number tweaks being put in place with no idea how the affected skills will perform once broken traits are fixed, which is just asking for everything to end up balanced twice over. Seems pretty inefficient and short-sighted.

Agreed. If the bug fixes come after the balance fixes, the classes will once again be terribly imbalanced. I can think of dozens of traits and skills that, if fixed, would significantly increase the power and usefulness of that profession/skill/trait/build.
