Class popularity in pvp
If you want to avoid playing fotm, you can choose Ranger or Necro, as always.
Other than that, maybe Engi.

1.Mesmer
8.Warrior

It’s an elementasist rain.
A lot of mesmers too

Are engi, necro, and ranger bad in the current meta or something? I want to play a range class, so with ele and mesmer out of the windows, those are what I was looking at.
Power Ranger is actually excellent and undervalued in the current meta. When you play it, play it as a peeler +1’er and you’ll be fine.

Let’s just say ele/mesmer>rest.

That’s why ranger is right above warrior at #7.
The Dhuumfire thread
Engi is the least played. It’s pretty darn versatile but your 1v1 requires the enemy messing up most of the time.

i have seen a rise in rangers in pvp since last patch
I have definitely noticed a lot of Mesmers in this patch. I’m not quick to cry OP, but I suspect their absurd brokenness is a factor. Y’know of /some/ variety. :P
I can’t help but feel that class was sort of a mistake in its conception. It does not have a mechanic that is remotely conducive to fun. They’re either blocking, invisible, evading, teleporting across the map, or so surrounded in clones that picking them out is just a headache. (or, God help you, any combination of the above…)

@Trevor Boyer; I would draw your attention to the fact that after the LongBow buff we were seeing 5 man ranger teams on a regular basis. You were among those defending rangers at the time.
Every time there’s something new and not yet well understood, you’re going to see a lot of them for a while. I’ve seen my share of all ranger teams and all hambow warrior teams.
Inasmuch as you defended 5 man ranger teams, I don’t see where you have grounds to complain about an uptick in Mesmers and Elementalists.
That being said;
At least one of the posters here claiming a high percentage of Mesmer/ Ele is a well known hater of Mesmers and Ranger apologist.
I’m seeing most classes. Not as many engis seem to show up but the ones who do are tough.
Ithilwen, I don’t know why you’re fanboying every single post that I make lately but will you please at the very least, stop fabricating false data about my posting in this forum. A single click & search on my account for posts/thread made will prove everything you’ve said about me in the past 24 hours, to be wrong.
(A) I have never defended or ever even spoken about 5 man Ranger teams.
(B) I have never once asked for Ranger buffs aside from balancing on GS #4 and GS #5
© I don’t hate Ele & Mes. I play everything and that is why I understand balancing.
(D) You are only fooling yourself by trolling around and defending Mes/Ele as balanced classes. If you haven’t noticed, most other people and I mean 95%+ of this forum community, have widely identified Ele & Mes as severely OP in their current states.
Shift your stalking trolling of my posts in to something productive please.
Maybe try making a thread of your own, explaining why Mes & Ele are balanced.
I would love to see the kind of comments you get with that thread!

I agree, I think they started mesmer out as a sneaky support class with some rupts and stuff like that and have lowest dps/burst potential cause of much much much x1000 more superior utility skills, ended up having all the best utility skills and easiest most spammable hard hitting bursts…..people want it to be unique, so they can keep their utilities…their damage needs be toned down by ikd…..40-60% again no joke. also distortion is just: facetank every burst every 9.5 sec….needs rework and toned down hardcore as well, mesmer is childisch atm imo, also when you finally get cc a mesmer wich is hard as it is…you get mirror anquish, mesmer needs a handfull of nerfs on various departments….no it wasn’t up prepatch it absolutely wasn’t

Wtf? warriors aren’t least popular at all, they’re pretty fun and easy while also having a high skill cap.
Mesmer are in a particularly good spot atm (powerblock nerf incoming).
Ele are basically god mode due to burning being broken and their various op traits making them so hard to 1v1.
It seem to follow a trend but fortunately there’s a bit of everything in arenas and the slight difference if there’s one isn’t noticable

warriors are good in casual hotjoin when the opposing players are not that experienced or skilled in dealing with warriors.

I play no hot-join. Too hectic. But there is no reason to devalue it. It is a game mode that sure more people play as tournaments. It is more important than the pastime of a handful of elitists.
I don’t know about hotjoin, I’m sure warr can do well in ranked tpvp even without rampage with greatsword/hammer marauder amulet.
It just becomes a very skilled class at higher level.

You end up having to try about 10x harder to be even semi-competitive with Mes as a War now. Actually, that’s a really conservative estimate. I played one evening as a standard PU Shatter Mes and by the end I just felt disgusted with myself. So many times I should have died but I had so many tools at my fingertips that I would only die if I wanted to try and fight 3 at once, and even then I lasted a fair amount of time.
The reward/effort ratio is just silly compared to when I played pre-Spec patch.
What’s even more sad is that there are still those who think War is a easymode class…they were generally on Mes or Ele. They think that easy mechanically means easy to play. Of course then they always claim to have a Warrior and play it all the time, without fail, right after spouting off outdated info about War.
Old Man Burr (War), Bad Hat Ben (Engi), Manly Manny Manson (Guard)
I am pretty much a dedicated engineer at this point. I am often the only one in 3 out of 4 matches.
there havent been that much of a rise in rangers … alot of rangers play hotjoin and queues as much as before and really about the same… honestly nothing changed much for power ranger as a matter of fact dmg on longbow was lowered from pre-patch esp with the nerf to air/fire sigils, it’s almost the same as pre-patch except lower damage and taunt from BM.

Engineer requires some serious finger acrobatics. Engineers have some of the most versatile traits, utilities, and combinations I’ve ever seen. However, you can get a lot of the same power with less effort on other classes.
Necromancer suffers from a number of issues with a number of builds (well cooldowns, minion AI being poop, wonky signets, lack of stability, ect). Necromancer can be good, but every single build they have is lacking just a little something.
Ranger suffers from pet AI and the same deal as necro. All of their builds lack in different areas.
In regards to OP, the most common are D/D eles, Mesmers, followed by burning guardians and thiefs.

Burning Guardians are not close to the third most popular class/build. At least in rated pvp most of the guardians I have seen have gone back to bunker and there are still more medi guardians then burning guardians. All guardians can inflict a fair amount of burning dont just look at some burning in the damage log and say Burning Guardian. I rarely see a torch off hand guardian in rated pvp. Unless you see that not a burning guardian.

The vast majority of guardians I run into in PvP (in the last 3 weeks) are in fact consecration burning guardians with sword+torch and great sword. After the ones I listed, the most common things I see (in no particular order) are:
GS/hammer warriors
elixer engineers
venom thiefs
power rangers
signet necros
Power necros
the rest of the builds after these guys are non existent or once in a blue moon. Off the top of my head I’ve only ever seen 2 spirit weapon guardians, 1 deceptions thief, 3 scepter fresh air eles, 2 staff eles, and an assortment of other builds. I’ve never seen a single condition damage ranger in PvP in the entire 3 years I’ve been playing.

I find it hard to believe you don’t have DD ele or Mesmer on your list.
I see A LOT of Ele’s especially.
Almost never see engineers. Not counting double engi daily.
Mesmer this, Elementalist that. It feels like we ain’t even pvping in the same game. I see as much Necromancers as the previous 2 mentioned.
