Being that the Courtyard topic has been a interesting topic, I’ve had a few ideas cross my mind in terms of making Courtyard into a competative ranked map, and something for people who want a more combat focused mode over a node control game mode.
First Idea would be to turn Courtyard from teamdeath match to a elimination style match mode. Meaning no respawn after going from down to dead until the match is won either by killing everyone on the enemy team, or by time out for the round(Team with the most health percentage wins). Reduced team sizes either to 2v2s or 3v3s make for good fights. A total of ‘best of 3 rounds’ with each round being about 4 minutes max.
Now when going over other games such as LoL, there’s itemization to help either play to your strengths or help you combat them, granted GW2 PvP plays nothing like LoL, however taking the idea of stronghold champion selection, and the special action button that appears in Eternal Coliseum and PVE, I figured why not utilize to make a unique diverse mechanic. Giving players the ability to choose from various effects such as giving you unblockable attacks for a number of strikes, or number of seconds, reducing healing effectiveness for a number of seconds on attacked foes, massively reducing movement speed of enemies for a short time improved damage/or defense, seeing stealthed players for a few seconds. and so on and so forth.
A large variety of things to choose from to help against the opposition or help you excel, and the system would just be like selecting a Mist Champion for Stronghold and available to all professions. Though one thing about this I’m wondering is if the special action button skill will abide by a charge based system, or a cool down based one.
