Hello.

What do you think about reworking combos in GW2 ?

I think there is huge potential for teamplay in the whole combo thingy.

Most of the combinations happen randomly, except a few. Most the players use combos just for them self, like the thief/engi making himself invis or warrior stacking up might. I think there is way to less thoughtful use of combos in pvp, except for stacking up might or spamming cluster bombs in healing springs. I would love to see how 5 good players(1) lose against one good team(2), because the team(2) combinates their combofields and finishers perfectly.
For example: Team 2 is under pressure and sets up a light field and an ice field—-finishes two explosions in it, to get these defensiv shields—— they manage to retreat or stabilze.

I have no real clue how, but i would love to see less random and stronger combos.

I really like the idea of the whole “shield” system for example a jump or an explosion in an etherfield, gives you chaos armor and area chaos armor! What about generalising this idea?
If I jump through a combofield, I get a shield/ aura. If I use an explosion in a combofield(except smoke and water, cause they work fine) my teammates in the area and i get a shield/aura and a buff.

I think the whirl finisher ist completly useless and silly.
What about:" while you are spinning in a combofield( for example fire) your “whirl” catches fire and damages or burns everyone u touch." Not these random bolts.

My idea, how to make combos less random is: " tune down the AoE". If the area is smaller, you really need to target the combofield to get your comboeffect. By that i mean making the Area in the combofield smaller, where i need to hit it to get the wanted effect and the area of effect (like the shield/aura) bigger.

I would really love to hear a devs opinion on combos.

Only whirl finisher decently useful is the Black Powder + Whirling Axe.

You can’t really tune down AoE without significant adjustments to cost-benefit of each skill. What about single target spike as a class feature? Or area control? Examples such as D/P Thief and Staff Ele (not really great example).

I’m just talking about the size of the combofields. In my opinion making combofields smaller isnt a real issue, because combofield in itself dont do the “big dmg”. The benefit comes from using the combofield. Let’s take the ring of fire, decrease the radius about 60%, the skill would be bad, because its smaller and you burn less people, but you would get a lot more out of the skill if u use its “combofield” and give your team fire aura, and burn way more people then before. Therefor u need to buff the comboeffects.

Do u see my point?

Yes sorry. There’s been many great ideas in the past, and I’m not dismissing yours as something potentially reinvigourating for GW2 combat. There’s a fine line between use and abuse though.
But, I look at the combo system and how over the past year the only change has been the light aura, and suddenly any half-decent idea becomes far-fetched and unobtainable.
