Dear community,

after rolling a couple of matches (more than a couple tbh… I’m addicted to this game I need help ), I can honestly say the changes aren’t AS bad as everyone is crying about.

Thief: The DPS buffs are honestly mostly there for PVE. The burst is still pretty abysmal (which was the issue in PVP really). I only managed to faceroll if the party was stupid and let me AA/backstab without touching me (which happened). Although, fairly easy to counter with focus tbh. The buff allowed me to get a spot into fractal after months of my daredevil collecting dust. Please don’t nerf back. Now Thief will be a pubstomper but not a pro-wrecker. QQ will ensue.

Necro: Not going to lie, pretty kitten broken if condi built. Literally smash my face on the keyboard and press 1,2,3,4 and 5 and everyone drops like flies. I don’t believe this class honestly required the buffs it did get.

P.S. Ele is kitten tier now tbh. Almost fodder tbh.

You haven’t met a good Thief yet. I saw in my list multiple good Thieves playing on their alts. Their reasoning is to avoid confirming the obvious buff and get nerfed before the season starts.

Gray out the HP for future condition damage
Already quit PvP. Just log in here and there to troll.

I’ve met good thieves. The issue is, prepatch, I firmly believe someone talented/trained enough with a thief, if given the same amount of time with another job, would outperform his performance on the thief. Basically simply making them REALLY good players.

Admittedly I’m not a good thief though.

To be fair on condi Necro, how many people do you see actually dodging your skills? I can confidently say that I rarely do.

It can hardly be said a build is OP when people aren’t even taking the most basic measures to attempt to counter it. In this case, dodge/blind/block. If they don’t try to avoid any of my hard-hitting skills, don’t you think they should lose?

I honestly believe that the Thief community knows what the problem is with new Thief, but I’ll type it here to let you guys know as well. I agree the buffs were poorly conceived, but at the very minimum we are allowed to do group content without being booted because all a thief brings is damage and mobility. We have no true group healing (venomshare is abysmal tbh), we do not boon share, our condition overly is short lived, and so on. If you take a HARD look not some short “30 second ok its broken” look, you’ll realize what I’m saying is spot on and if you truly want to nerf Thief’s damage you really need to compensate them because dang is it bad. Now then a quick in depth for anyone (and if this doesn’t work I will type up a long friggin essay and ask for it to be stickied):

Dagger Mainhand- upfront burst, this weapon set is JUST damage.
Dagger Offhand- light debuff with fairly high damage which is extremely initiative inefficient
Pistol Mainhand- medium range, garbage damage, garbage condi
Pistol Offhand- a daze and blind make it your light disable over light debuff
Sword Mainhand- sustained damage with a small amount of survivability and control
Staff- Aoe damage that is highly telegraphed, the “BullRush into 100blades” of this era
Shortbow- highly telegraphed damage which is also very mediocre considering the former reason, used solely for mobility. This weaponset is why Thief has remained weapon, because of Shortbow 5 and nothing else. If this game was not conquest, Thief would never remain meta.

Deathblossom (d/d)- small zone control. Think turrets, but tighter
Shadow Shot(d/p)- the single most overloaded ability for Thief. We think d/p needs to be heavily nerfed so that we can finally buff other things. dagger buffs were bad because this weaponset is now over the top
Shadow Strike(p/d)- a quick gap opener, this weapon has very light sustained damage both condi and power
Unload (p/p)- the only ability on this weaponset that anyone notices because the set is just bad in this combination
Larcenous/Flanking Strike (s/d)- the duelist set, this ability takes boons IF you didn’t block/blind/dodge/invuln…etc… Larcenous. needs buffs to make it a real boon steal weapon considering the current spamability
Pistol Whip (s/p)- the single highest damaging ability with a stun that roots the thief. dieing to this if you see it coming simply means you weren’t paying attention or have no stun reflect/breaks

Signets- A boost to damage which is better left not activated in many many cases, a speed boost that is the WORST active signet for its type (ele stunbreaks and blinds for instance), a tp which is fine and should just be its own skill, and a 100 endurance (not 150, yay bugs) refill

Traps- a light condi root, a shadow based tp which always puts the Thief in melee range so if you trigger a trap just drop a quick cc a second later (cast time) to make sure they didn’t use it, a knockdown which triggers the unlimited range Eye for an Eye trait, and a summon minion. Minion that dies in a 1v1 to any necro minion. And has no realistic value. At all. Oh and these are all LINES. Not circles. Which means they are the hardest to trigger traps.

Tricks- so we have two good abilities (the heal that all thief builds will run if they are competitive and roi which is init restore), and then one bugged ability that for some reason is even less reliable than Magnet Pull, and lastly a quickness ability that gives fury instead of swiftness or superspeed on a melee class because reasons.

Deception- minus the heal ability, the only solid set of utilities. aoe stealth, aoe stealth, a displacing stunbreak/condi cleanse, and…a thingie. I honestly don’t even know what the fourth one is.

Venoms- so ye. The value of these venoms is very low because Venomshare. When mesmers complain about alacrity (which I totally understand) I cannot resist laughing because this. One whole set of utilities minus the elite Basi one is garbage. Because of a trait. Don’t believe me, don’t pick venomshare and try to make any real build. Any.

Physical- the HoT spec. So a full endurance filler if running trait, if not its just 100 or so, a block that turns into knockdown, a 2 second high burst stun ability that almost never lands, a dagger stun, and a dagger condi toss which is still beyond bugged (not a combo finisher STILL. 7 months. I still don’t get +3 poison from my shortbow 4) and misses on anything that moves and/or exceeds a range of oh…600. But its k, Impact Strike. reminds me of venoms.

tl;dr- The problem with Thief isn’t a lack of damage, its the bugs. Sword auto was never worth completing, scorpion wire is garbage, impairing daggers is still bugged. Mesmer runes and Sigil of Paralyzation do nothing for us despite us obviously being built to stun. Most of our utilities are trash tier, our weapons consume initiative like a thirsty hippo, and without taking Trickery for Preparedness we cannot play. We have one good heal, very situational utilities, and two good elites. We got buffs to dagger, despite d/p being the most overperforming set. Instead of fixing pistol, its still trash. We do not have burn. We do not have protection. We barely have stability. We have no resistance. The list goes on. We only bring mobility and burst, but instead of giving us more burst (because they say BAD NO SURVIVABILITY to us) they gave us more sustained. Two/Three weapons did not need them. Now you know.

Consider how fast you can spam those skills, no. Those buffs were not required. Reaper was already at a really good place. ANet just set themselves up for Reaper QQ thread spam.

I ran out of characters, so my Necro opinion goes here. Holy spam, I’m sorry. Necro’s problem isn’t simple to pinpoint- Necro’s theme is corruption. Naturally these buffs make sense. The problem is conditions are far too strong. Also, Necro has very few hard hitting big tell abilities. Especially condi. A necro fighting anyone else of the same caliber will never naturally lose a 1v1, but this is the trade for mobility. Which it has. Its hard to find something to nerf on Necro without destroying its theme. Unfortunately. I think it and ele need a true rework from the ground up. And I think Thief (now that they are done trying to call it a speedy utility tool) shows how easy that is. Just accept and aspect of your design, do that. Ele is meant to be the class that builds and builds and builds, Necro is the one that tears and tears and tears. Ele needs to be the boon god, Necro the condi god. Hope I helped someone learn. Yay two walls of text. My fingers hurt.

in the hands of good thieves, the changes will be very impactful once real season starts.

They can hide for now but the nerfs WILL be coming. Just like how the community cry and moan about bunker meta, this will be even bigger.

Your defense for necro is quite biased consider your comments on your replies to Mesmer nerf threads. I can argue Chrono’s theme is about alacarity, but it’s ok for Anet to totally destroy that elite spec?

It sucks being at the top. All these years, aside from a few moments, of being subpar, and now anyone that plays Reaper catches hell. >. <

At this point, I just say screw it, all you other professions had no problem crapping on us when we were down. Time for the Reapers to enjoy bathing in your salty tears until our inevitable nerf back down to mediocrity.

buff to thief will not be huge in terms of 1v1’s or even teamfights, but it enables the horrible powerspike playstyle where the thief(+more) roam around just ganking stuff out of stealth.

Never said Reapers were down. I said Necros were. Aside from an over-buff to chill damage and now boon corrupts, Reaper was one of the most balanced elites out there.

I just don t understand the corrupt boon buff to brokenness. with the trait its a 10 second cooldown and converts 3 boons to conditions, rofl thats insane. Now I can go corruption build, have way more utility, and still strip and convert boons like I was full signet build.

New corrupt boon is monstrous and should be on every necros skill bar. Signets are still good but I think that meta might be on its way out the door. Get ready for corruption necros with 10s CD coorupt boon and 20s consume conditions (maybe best heal in game)

Whenever they pan to a necro in pro league, you can see that they’re just spamming all their skills on CD

You could slow down and think about what to press but this would most likely just lower your dps while very occasionally making you more strategically effective

re-orientate life force. Either;
1) Build LF rapidly, gets used quickly. Can enter in and out of shroud quickly.
2) Build life force slowly. Use life force at slowed rate. Cannot enter in and out of shroud quickly.
3) Marks are fairly large to be unblockable and gain large life force, at least remove snap ground targeting on marks, but still apply snap to wells.

Souls marks is extremely good for an adept trait. Vital persistence slows life force use and reduces shroud cool downs. It should be the other way. Reduces life force cost, reduces cool downs, but increases cooldown on shroud recharge.

I like necro, it is essentially my main. However I am seeing a disturbing amount of band wagoners who aren’t playing them thoughtfully and still easily winning 1 vs 2 even though their play is less than optimal. Anet has a bad habit of making one profession each balance extremely easy .

As for Thief, the damage buff is nice, but ultimately they’re still crepe paper thin in Aoe heavy situations.

I like having more boon corruption not tied to traits on necromancer as it opens up more build diversity.

I don’t like how they didn’t nerf things like chill damage or condi application from the buffed skills to compensate for their added sources of pressure. Maybe make putrid curse only poison if the target has no boobs to corrupt, like the damage mod on Mesmer sword auto? I think stuff like that would help a lot in making them more balanced.

So you did not check my post history. Good. Are you trolling? Or are you trying some kind of dissuasion? Or are you really just not good at reading? I said Mesmer needs light buffs. I say light because Mesmer is Second Place (down from First) in core specs, while Chrono is Fourth Place(down from First) in elite specs. Chrono’s theme is not “about alacrity” it was stated on the livestream “we wanted Chrono’s theme to be about time, buffing and debuffing, speeding up and slowing down”. So yes, Alacrity sucked for a nerf. If they nerf chill to the same level then its fine in pvp. In pve you are a must have anyway. Continuum Shift into Mimic+Well of Action+Well of Action into Time Warp, CS goes down do it again. You just gave tons of quickness and tons of alacrity. In pvp, you have to play far better than the bunker era. As for hilarity, I’ve found a stupid high burst build that just shatters for days. Its just keeping my illusions up that hurts, but since IP is baseline it matters very little.

Ah, finally an explanation. Everyone and their grandma isn’t running the pay2win necro elite because it’s overpowered, but because the community at large doesn’t know how to dodge.

Finally, a necro build that hardcounters not dodging.
