So, why not “normalize” direct damage from auto attacks? Some autos are stronger than others. The thing that matters is the weapon’s kit as a whole.

Out of all of your examples, the warrior’s main hand sword is the most balanced condition-on-autoattack.

The most imbalanced condition-on-autoattack is in the form of long-range autoattacks with no avoidable projectile, i.e. Necromancer’s scepter.

Try capping a point with a Necro scepter. Nerfing this weapon for necro’s means it won’t be used.

Why would you be capping a point with a necro scepter? That’s…not your job description if you’re running condie necro.

Well considering that, Scepters should not be used at all then (for necro’s). Holding and capping a point will win you a game, if you cannot do that on your own in certain situations you might lose. Ever wondered why there were so less necro’s in the ToL?

necros fill the same role of mesmers minus the utility : massive dmg but die quickly and need to be peeled for

i think this would be a great change, condis are way to spammable atm, if sacrificing a utility slot to remove a couple of conditions once in 60 seconds is going to remain our only counter to conditions then they we shouldn’t end up with a giant stack due to afew seconds of auto attacks.

now if they made armour and damage reduction effects (like protection) effect conditions then we’d have less of a problem, but currently they’re armour ignoring and far too spammable

Conds need condition auto attacks just like power needs power based auto attacks.

Conds are already in the vast minority on teams.

If conds were so strong that they needed a nerf, then this wouldn’t be the case.

Out of all the broken things going on in sPvP… this one shouldn’t be a concern right now.

Conditions on auto attack (EG Necro specter.) are entirely in line. The physical damage these attacks inflict is nominal at best and they do not have a channeled attack that can stack these conditions quickly. By comparison a warrior great sword, or Ranger longbow can inherently have a percentage chance of inflicting nominal conditions on critical hit, as well as deliver sound/superior damage.

When the equation is balanced this way;

Low Dmg+ Perpetual stacking conditions with short durations stack at a moderate pace vs Above average physical damage that can be delivered quickly+ slowly stacking mediocre mamage conditions= Physical attackers will always produce superior damage.

This is why the holy trinity of PvE is DPS-DPS-DPS. However in PvP only where multiple professions cannot cleanse repeating conditions quickly has lead to a condition meta, which even today is out of popularity in favour of bunker builds because of how many condition spec’s have had their bread and butter condition stack in bleeding/poison reduced across all professions.

You keep talking about “normalizing” the damage, what does “normalizing” mean for you?
Define “normalizing”..cuz you’re not making sense at all..

but condis aren’t effected by armour, toughness or damage reductions.
you could stack all the toughness and protection you want,
the condis would still eat you down in seconds.
even “Invulnerable” wont stop condi damage.

and since the only counter to condis is to sacrificing utility slots on long cooldown condi removal skills it isn’t acceptable that within a few seconds of using your condi removal you have all of those conditions back on you again.

Then the whole system involving condition damage should be changed, not just the auto attacks of certain professions. Some professions don’t even need an auto attack to stack a huge pile of condis on you.
