Tournament was great! Very entertaining to watch, and great build/comp variety despite taking place before the major balance patch.

No the tournament went very well viewer-wise for being announced two days ahead of time. Great job overall.

… about as close to GvG as it gets. The map is inspired by GW1 GvG, contains a GL and 4 protectors.

I’ve got nothing against WvW or even some GvG matches in the borderlands. However, there is a great deal of skill involved in sPvP, and in my personal opinion I’d say a bit more. 1 person in sPvP will make or break a fight. You can be carried through GvG fights much easier.

To each their own though. I suppose if sPvP isn’t your style, perhaps you shouldn’t have clicked “pvp” when you get onto the forums.

Besides, it is rather irrelevant to say one would steamroll ppl if one would actually play.

Your lot tried hard and likes the game (and hence got pretty good at it, I reckon), while most GW1 players on the other hand (with certain exceptions like Empathetic Figther) find it a complete waste of effort and time – and for good reasons, too.
But hey, you are more than welcome to come GW1, because the competition is pretty ok there, and we always welcome fresh meat on the scene!

Besides, if I wanna spam stuff on re I go pve or roll an ele/derv on GW1, why would I need to go GW2 for that.

If this game wouldn’t have been called “Guild Wars” 2, nobody would’ve given two kittens about the PvP. The only reason people still talk about it is Guild Wars 1.

Stop blame yourself. Just for an example: Team Legacy went from GW1 to GW2 and after some days steamrolled teams which have played 5 months in the alpha allrdy. You never wondered why TP was that good? mabye because they had nearly half a year more experience than the rest.

Dude, Like Origine online and some teams !! But lot of all teams in alpha leaved this game because they see nothing news since 2 years !
And smarter people who played alpha doesn’t buy this game ! ;(

The player level from top tier teams to medium tier teams to lower team tier teams is nonexistent. That is where one of the biggest issues of people getting better is.

Do you even know what Pioneer means? GW1 was far from being the pioneer of MOBA. In fact, the Starcraft mod Aeon of Strife, later popularized by Warcraft 3: Defense of the Ancients were the FIRST and only pioneers that exploded through e-sports. GW1 had nothing with being the first of e-sports MOBA or any other genre.

That said, im not saying GW1 PvP was bad. Just get your facts straight before you start chest-pumping the game you like or you’ll end up making a fool out of yourself.

My grats to the winners, although this brings several bittersweet memories of the great times had in GW1 pvp. Simply too many leagues apart from what we have right now.

Good god GW1 folks never stop twisting reality seen it when I played the game towards the end of its life cycle. It was a fine game I enjoyed but it was never near the powerhouse on the e-sport level WoW arenas reached with views and cash prizes.

GW1 I did not find that hard at all over all. It did have hard classes and roles however, I found monking well the only real challenge. I never got into playing a rupt ranger but that took good skill, wars were ok but it was really easy leading qknock. Eles, sins, necros, devs, etc all really easy. WoW at high level Arena much more skill based for ALL players on a team.

GW1 at a high level required skill and a lot of tactical coordination with your teammates. Let alone consistency to make sure you were doing your job the entire match. Gw2 is difficult in its own way, however its much more simple ( @ least conquest is) tactically. Hoping for more game modes soon so that the GW1 leftover crowd can transition over and hopefully make this game more popular.

Eles and dervs of GW1 are your necro and ranger/warrior of GW2.
Overall, the predecessor has been dumbed down a great deal over the years, and now has many roles which are easy to be effective with by simply rolling the right build and spamming (kinda like your usual r, thief, nec or w on GW2)…however there is still a world of difference when an actually skilled player picks up those easy-to-play classes, or uses unorthodox builds that your average scrub can only dream of using properly. The final ele skill update on GW1 displayed in a very clear manner this spam-oriented and multiple-effects-in-one-skill balance approach Anet decided to go with on GW2. The same goes for (over)buffing (an underpowered skill/class) rather than striking a sound balance between skills/classes.

But as already pointed out, dervishes and eles are the biggest culprits when it comes to lousy skill-result ratio. Pure hex necros/illusion mesmers are pretty close too, but a support necro with ff and enchantment control is already on a diff level, and I won’t even mention the level of difficulty of getting good at staple builds/classes like domination mesmers, r/mo interrupt rangers, axe warriors and prot monks.

Besides, you mentioned yourself you played the game at the end of its life cycle, so what exactly gives you the credibility to type out a single word of comment regarding the quality of GW1? You’ve got no clue, dude. Zero. Zilch. Zippo. Nada.

except the high-level play in WoW is being pigeon holed into flavor of the month classes/specs,comps that changes with every single patch. I admit that there might be some skill and 3 vs 3 arena but that is only if the patch according to that season allows it. of recently it was always a problem with hunters and stampede, in mop , now its just warrior control and deep wounds.

if you ever watched Wow arena tournaments, it always consists of the same hand full of team compositions, and mirrored matches. and this is just arena all the other PvP modes are plagued with vastly more issues.

and the Guild Wars 2 MLG we saw diversity of classes/builds with elementalist being the only lacking one. not to mention World of Warcraft was kicked out of MLG some years ago due to the games lack of balance.

When blizzard has the curage to finally separate PvE and PvP, and set the grounds for an even competitive environment, I might actually pick the game up one day. but as it stands Guild Wars 1 & 2 will always be ahead in this department giving them more potential for a competitive scene.

Over 95% of all the servers and supercomputers out there in the world running Linux / BSD, and a bunch of programmers would like to disagree with saying the terminal is dead.

For example, I doubt anyone can search for all files matching a certain regular expression, then automatically rename those files in bulk based on a set of rules you define, and create a list of all occurences of people’s names and corresponding dates found within all those files and format it nicely into a new file, on a touch pad all automatically with ease.

Turning around that analogy, actually beyond the surface and the pretty effects and eye candy and casual-friendly touch screen (or gw2), the old one is much more polished, elite, has higher potential and a higher skill ceiling, and is much more powerful than the new generation’s casual-friendly system can ever be.

The problem is, GW1 PvP wasn’t really spectator-friendly and gamers are becoming more casual every passing year.

Get slapped! But I think GW1 was more spectator friendly than GW2, seeing as how you weren’t blinded by particle effects. You did however need to know about the game and what was being done to understand anything.

we (MEN) Gomen Nasai actually took a match off WM once. probably the pinnacle of my time in gw1. Totally only happened because they didnt take us serious enough, and we used their own cheesey tactic against them. Still, a win against that team was a win, and an epic one for us!
