After testing, there are already pathing problems. Shadow trap will kitten some crucial times up that’s for sure…

Yeah the trap still uses shadowstep pathing, which got FUBAR’d last path. Unless you have a straitline path with no obstructions, the skill fails >.>

Why wouldn’t it work?
With a range of 10,000, it should be able to connect any 2 points in an SPvP map with a walking path (assuming you’re not trying to go through a closed gate or something).

Oh wait…Anet programmed it.

If you’re a thief and haven’t
pre-ordered HOT at this point,
save yourself the money and don’t bother.

If you can think of a quick program fix you should apply to Anet I hear they are looking for programmers!

Shadowstep pathing doesn’t even work properly all the time on 900 range skills, so the 10000 range on this is mostly a crapshoot.

Still not viable until it behaves as a Portal like teleport.

To avoid WvW exploits like teleporting to someone inside a keep, change the skill to only Teleport to where the trap is placed instead of to where the target is. Apply the 10x might and fury only if activated after someone triggers it.

The reason the return doesn’t work is because after activation the trap becomes a “shadowstep” as read in the skill description. Destroying the trap , however counts as a “teleport”.

so to use it as a teleport, we must place the trap in a place where no one will step onto it !!!

the 45 seconds recharge timer only starts counting when we activate the teleport (nobody triggered it) or shadowstep (somone triggered it) is it?

EXACTLY. taht’s how i have been using it. kind of like my own personal mesmer port. I usually rush far node, kill the bunker, cap, drop my shadow trap off node where nobody will hit it, then rush mid to help. once i see the far node contested i pop my trap destruction to instantly teleport back on the node and keep it in our color.

Strange thing is that I actually see many of those so called “immortal” thieves die in every single arena/tournament i go…something broken with their immortality i guess…for sure still less immortal than d/d eles..

Been trying it extensively for the past few days and it still has intermittent pathing issues even when not triggered. So I don’t think it behaves as a teleport even when destroying the trap without having anyone trigger it.

Just when I thought they finally got it right… Can’t really use this in a competitive setting in its current unreliable state.

I’ve killed any Thief I’ve find on my way. Whyt my Guardian, I can kill them easy. I’ve a Berserker build and some skill to defend from it’s first attack. Then I grab them whit 5 of the GS, use the 2 and theu’re life is below 50%. Then if they stay close to me to try to kill me I can switch in sword+focus and kill them so easy.
I’ve find only one thief that is able to kill me, because it’s a very good player, find in Tspvp one day ago.
All the other thief… die XD

Not completely correct. The cooldown for the trap will immediately begin to cooldown like normal, IF you do NOT break the trap to teleport to it, or IF you do NOT teleport to a player who triggered it.

If you ignore it when a player triggers the trap, and it’s been 45 seconds, the trap will be ready to place again once the duration to utilize shadow persuit wears off. Otherwise you deal with a CD for “using” it. Which seems perfectly fine in that regard.

As for randomly teleporting into the nearest obstruction … well, that’s a horribly annoying issue, especially in Khylo.
