Cooldown abuse in arenas
If this is actually a thing, then Anet needs to change it so that if your character ever leaves a match for any reason, you are unable to re-enter the match. Or else find a way to lock matches to characters instead of to accounts.
No other way to handle it that I can think of.
character swapping shouldn’t be allowed. players who do this should get literally zero credit in rated games. For the join now, there should be an option to prevent someone from coming back as an option in the arena controls.
Sad that people are abusing this

So, I should roll 2 more necros and get an SSD?
I fight people, sometimes they kill me, sometimes I kill them. Fun is had by all. [/quote]
A simple solution to this is to reset the respawn timer upon logging back in.
In effect, it would be like dying again and losing that much more time waiting for respawn.

Until matchmaking makes sure I NEVER get double/triple mesmer/thief games this needs to be allowed.

mid-game
I agree with no swapping mid game.
I’d prefer no swapping during opening either, because queues are supposed to take class mmr into account. However, mid game is the crucial one here that is important.
The idea of adding respawn timmer when you come in would be amazing actually. That would add an additional 15 seconds time to when you could get back in and would definitely deter a lot of swaps.
I saw a ranger die 2 times at far, he switches, dies on necro, switches to warrior, dies on warrior…
He probably spend 10 seconds away from game at every switch. Unless it’s like.. instant.. i don’t see what the problem is o_o

if my team comp isnt working ill swap mid-game. but im not doing it for CD abuse. lol why not just have a team with 3 players that each have 6 different necros, and 2 players with several warriors each.
then they can just keep swapping toons to get infinite lich form + war banners.
unless multiple toons of same class share CD of same skills? i wouldn’t know since I have never swapped between 2 toons of the same class.
You act surprised, yet players have always exploited every single design flaw in the game to their full potential for as long as I can remember. The problem is that those exploits get fixed extremely rarely. Out of a dozen, I can think of one that’s been addressed.
I have 246 character slots all necros.

You act surprised, yet players have always exploited .
But is it really an exploit? Because ArenaNet has yet to ever acknowledge it. Is this something I need to start working on and incorporating into my own strategy to stay competitive in the meta?
I think I read somewhere that if you log on to a different character during the match you get no points & no MMR.
Could be wrong but if true this should make people not want to do it.
I think a dev said if you leave the game for any reason and come back you dont get credit… I think this might only apply to the leaderboard… should be for all rewards.

this is no longer true unless you are gone for 1 min total combined during the game. so for example if you can swap in less than 20 seconds, then you can swap at least 3x with no penalty.
So that’s how that Necro had Lich form up almost every team fight during one of my matches a while back. Thought it was some cooldown reset hack, turns out to be even simpler exploit.
Oh god.. they better fix this..

This has always been a thing, but the GW2 community typically has been good enough to have honor.
I think dishonor should be extended to cover this, at least in the long term.
Sometimes you get REALLY stuck with an incomplete/wrong build, due to limited time and no templates, so swapping characters can really save your tail, I would like to see this fixed without reducing the quality of life for players.

What do you guys think a good remedy for this would be?
Should this apply to Ranked & Unranked matches or just Ranked?

Here’s a simple solution for all matches:
If a player logs out after the match started, then logs in with the same characters, do not reset skill cooldowns.
If a player logs out after the match started, then logs in with a different character, kick them out of the match and apply dishonor.

That doesn’t sound bad actually.

Mechanics need to be as similar as possible between ranked and unranked in order for unranked to be a viable form of practice.

True;however, you do have a more defined pyramid set up for pvp now
Practice → Unranked → Ranked
