Hello everyone, I returned to the game after a year and I am a bit confused about 2 things.

First, I see a lot of people quit ranked arena matches which used to be very punishing. Is leaving arena matches not as punishing as it used to be?

Second, can you now queue up as a premade and get matched with and against soloqueuers? That would really suck all the fun out of arenas for me since premades are the cancer of casual pvp in MMOs imo. One thing I really liked about GW2 arenas was that everyone was soloqueue, thus game were much more fair than in most other games.

1: You can leave, but you receive a loss on the leader boards and dishonor (debuff that doesn’t let you Q for set amount of time). This time punishment will also stack as you do it more often. There is a 60 second grace period for disconnects or character swapping.

There is a chance you go against soloers but it is pretty small. The matchmaking will try to push even amount of teams together. For instance 5v5 or 4-1v 4-1 or 2-3 vs 4-1. The issue with this though is if there are no equal teams in Q, eventually it will just put the closest thing it can find and result in slightly unfair matches. This is compensated for the points you receive or loose on leader boards. If you end up getting pitted against a full Q as full soloers, your chance of winning is less than 20% and therefore you only have to reach 200 points in match before you start gaining leader board points; even if you loose. If you were to win, you would gain the max amount of +3. Kind of complicated and there is wikis that explain everything better.

So basically as a soloqueuer I would lose a lot of games, but not much leaderboard rating right? that sucks then, since I don’t really care about ratings, I just want fun fair games, something that was actually a thing in GW2 previously.

Thanks for the answer anyway.

Forming premade is way too time consuming to play one or two games exacly when you want to do so without worrying if your friends are avalible or not.

What about forcing premades to go soloq instead since they are minority?

Or you could just not complain since you don’t spend much time doing it anyway. over half the people complaining about premades and unfair games etc aren’t even playing against true premades and are managing 50 w/l ratios system working as intended. =)

Btw I soloq most of the time I run into what some of these people call premades and I have won quite a few.

Soloq should never have been a thing in the first place, discourages team play encourages lone wolf play styles and bming at your team. It’s a llbig reason for any community toxicity.

If you’re looking for lopsided matches, I think you’re more likely to run into 5-player teams who are well below (or well above) your level.

Right now, it feels like the system puts a LOT of weight on team size, especially when it’s looking at 5-person teams. Our guild currently has about 15 players who are trying to make the jump from the practice arenas to unranked team matches. If we try to bring 5-player teams into an unranked match, they usually end up facing players who are 30-40 ranks above them.

The results are ugly: quick, lopsided losses (150 to 500, or worse) and players who aren’t able to score a single personal point. It might be fun for the ones who are doing the stomping, but I can’t believe it does much for their advancement.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s not that you aren’t a bit right, but it doesn’t matters.

Majority of players will play as SoloQ, they will run into premades and won’t be happy about it since it’s kinda frustrating when you get some random comp and your enemies got team composition like ‘top team’ and even if they play badly they will just outsustain those PuGs, even worse when they are coordinated.

And if this will happen pretty often there are two scenarios probably going to happen: a) some players form their own premade (they will be minority), b) those players lose interest in sPvP seeing it as unfair since ‘omfg kittened premade again’. So in the end, even if a) happens, it leads to b), which means sPvP playerbase will keep withering.

I really can’t imagine such scenarios as:
1+1+1+1+1 vs 4+1/3+2/3+1+1
1+1+1+2 vs 4+1/3+2/3+1+1
in game aiming at serious PvP like League of Legends and it’s Esportz scene which is all about teams. That would be more than unacceptable, but in GW? Happens all the time.

Also argument that minority (premades) had long waiting time ques, isn’t any argument for ruining game experience of majority (soloQ players), because it can’t do anything than harm.

I see only one solution to this situation and I think I’ve suggested it already many times: Bring back system from GW1 where PuGs played vs PuGs for X (10) games, winning PuG was advancing to next match (with rewards multiper) and losing one was disbanded. After winning those X games move those PuGs who haven’t lost any of their games into Team Q. It will make gamming experience much better for PuGs and Premades and maybe winning ~30 games in a row while Solo Q will be possible again, ah those great times…
