Courtyard
I agree with you. I think it’s place should be on custom arenas. It’s not the only map I really don’t care for. Many of us who play unranked pvp are trying to train/test builds for ranked pvp, there should be an option to only be queued for the proper maps (maps used in ranked games). Many of us see the other maps as a complete waste of time.
I vote for Courtyard every time – group or not. It’s fun and a nice change of pace.
We are not friends.
The best solution is still to add a “Deathmatch” checkbox in the queueing window right next to the “Conquest” and “Stronghold” checkboxes we’ve seen in BWE builds. This would allow people who hate Courtyard to never have to play it, and for people who like Courtyard to tailor their builds to it knowing it’s the map they’ll be getting. It’d also open things up for the addition of future Deathmatch maps, in theory

I mostly only do PvP and it will eventually make me quit the game.
Do it
Euros LOVE courtyard.
If its an option they are picking it.

You better hope I’m not on your team. It’s very easy to throw the game if you don’t like the courtyard map. Just go and suicide a few times and it’s over.
Bottom line: Unless each and every one of your teammates like courtyard, you shouldn’t vote for it.
Besides, no one likes Courtyard except for premade easywins.
I like courtyard even when I solo q.

I like courtyard but I agree with this. If they can do it for SH they can do it for DM.

So what about the people who hates Skyhammer? Or Foefire, or as my self i can’t stand Kyhlo and yet this is probably my most played map, which is not by choice.
Can i please get option to remove it?
Problem with Coeryard is very rarely that they are premade, i met many premade and won against those with a full pug group because the pug group knew how to play Cortyard. If you run in unstealthed, if you refuse to change class to adjust your group, if you run off on your own, if you don’t ress, or make sure the downed enemies dies, or push off enemies that try to trap you at your spawn, then yes you will loose against any other group and premade in particular since they can comunicate.
Now Cortyard is not really my favorite either but i don’t mind playing it. Kyhlo on the other hand i just flat out puke at and yet i get it every other match so yes, this is much about personal references.

It has nothing to do with preference, it is an entirely different game mode. It’s like trying to enter a dungeon and suddenly being thrown into SPvP. People build for conquest because 5 and a half (kitten spirit watch) out of the 7 maps are conquest. If they give us build templates so we could quickly load builds then they can keep it in, otherwise it needs its own queue.
I would love to see PVP tempelte For each type of PVP map.I hate it when people come in courtyard with their capping , melee bunker build. Courtyard wont be much of a hassle with that.

I’ll be sure to poll my solo queue teammates the game hasn’t even revealed the names of yet as to whether they like the map I am picking, thanks.

You can avoid skyhammer by joining ranked queue.
But you can’t compare that to courtyard because courtyard is a completely different style game mode. Deathmatch vs Conquest. You will have the option of avoiding conquest once stronghold is available by only checking stronghold and vice versa. But there is still no option for deathmatch.
Courtyard is great.
More arena’s like courtyard should be created then given there own queue. Until then, leave it as it is.
I love courtyard.
A bigger deathmatch map would be great. Only more movement space. No objectives.
Basically just give us the GvG Arena as a PvP map. That would do it.
All we wanted was a GvG.

Exactly. Moral of the story – never pick courtyard unless you’re in a 5-man premade.

Salty. I hate half the maps… I give 100% every map. Forgive me if I am not worried about toddlers throwing tantrums.

I’m ok with the courtyard once in a while.
The only map I never pick is Kyhlo. I hate that place. It’s so depressing.
Exactly. Moral of the story – never pick courtyard unless you’re in a 5-man premade.
Moral of the story is I’ll vote for what I feel like playing, which is the whole reason a map voting system exists. If someone wants to intentionally feed like a child because they didn’t get their way, that’s their business.
I’m 90% solo queue and I always pick Courtyard. CY and faster queues are the only reason to queue Unranked.
Deathmatch is THE BEST game type.
Deathmatch is THE BEST game type.
Not without build templates and especially not on that map.
If you people really supported deathmatch you would be supporting the op. Giving it a separate queue means
-players will be built for it, leading to better fights.
-Anet will be more likely to create new maps for it rather than leaving one map in its own queue. Laving it in the queue with the rest of the maps takes pressure off of them to further progress the game mode.
-You are less likely to have leave or afk at spawn.

Oh that’s fine then. Different goals. I vote for what I think will give me the best chances you win. I play to win, you play for fun. No judgments.
The concept of 5v5 is good, but the map itself it just bad.
1. Too many tight places make it an AOE spam fest
2. In all the games I’ve ever fought on that map, maybe 2 have been close games. The rest are blowouts one way or the other. That’s not fun.

I rarely vote for Courtyard but I’m still able to enjoy when I get it. There’s nothing wrong with the map. The color palette is slightly overdone but that’s it.
I honestly really enjoy Courtyard, it changes things up nicely. I ‘would’ like a build template tool added into the game, but I think people who ragequit just because they get a map they don’t want are children.
A preview of courtyard.
1. Everyone groups.
2. Everyone spams burns
3. The team with the most burns wipes the other team
4. Regroup and repeat #2.

If you played to win you wouldn’t immediately give up because the wrong map won the spin. Intentionally losing is not a winning strategy.
A better solution would be to just play Ranked where the map you won’t play isn’t even an option.
I like Courtyard. A lot actually. What we need is build templates for us to switch between TDM/Conquest/Stronghold
The map I absolutely cannot stand is Skyhammer… omg it’s beyond frustrating.
Rank: Top 250 since Season 2

I agree build templates is the best option but let’s be real, how likely is that to happen? We need to support the easy fix if we want to actually see something happen, that’s why giving deathmatch its own queue is the only solution worth suggesting.

Tanking courtyard allows me to move more quickly to the next game which I have a higher chance of winning. It’s a question of throughput – number of games/hour.

I still have a theory that people who love courtyard of those who love condi burn spam. It just works really well there with all the grouping. What do you play?

wvw group specs work real well, not condis so much. shout warrior and guardian are great (I run shout warrior with hammer and rampage for the map), well necro and staff ele are great too. it’s all about AOE support and AOE damage on courtyard. it’s like mini wvw.

Again playing Ranked is more efficient since you’ll never end up in Courtyard to begin with.
I don’t like Courtyard. I’d like to have an opt out. Both Courtyard and Stronghold cover ground already covered in WvW.

Some WvW build might do well in CY but DM isn’t same as WvW, condi has a much larger effect in DM just for example.

The problem with ranked is a higher chance of pre-mades = higher chance of me hitting a brick wall and losing. Right now, there’s a kind of “gentleman’s agreement” that pre-mades don’t go *un*ranked (edited), so I prefer that…

You mean agreement that pre-mades don’t go unranked? I see pre-mades all the time in unranked, when I group with my guild we typically go unranked cause we like the variety of maps in unranked.

I’m not saying it doesn’t happen. I’m saying that it’s generally understood to be bad manners for premades to play unranked. Of course, no one can stop them if they choose to do so. It’s just that most people choose to be decent voluntarily instead of having it forced on them.

Saying “no judgments” right after making one… what a cheeky lad you are!
Whether I vote for Courtyard or not is irrelevant (I tend to vote against it, and will continue to do so until it is made a separate queue like Stronghold). What is relevant is that you—the big bad pro gamer that plays to win—intentionally feed to cause your team to lose as fast as possible when you don’t get the map you want.
I think you may be confused as to which of us plays to win. If you need a hint, it’s the one who DOESN’T intentionally feed.

Yes, how dare an unfair pvp map that focuses entirely on pvp be usable in pvp. There should only be pve maps such as foefire so I can pve2win against lords.
I play a necro. No burning spec. What now?

Courtyard is a demonstration of why “pure” PvP is less than optimum.
I doesn’t bring anything to the game that isn’t already provided by WvW.
More importantly, conquest PvP has some of the attributes of a sport. There are fairly specific goal and stratagies that vary a bit from map to map. In theory one could play an entire match with no one dying, rotating from point to point in a kind of race.
Courtyard on the other hand is simple lowbrow brutality. I don’t see any aspect of sportsmanship, honor… In short, courtyard doesn’t qualify as sport. If I’m playing for simple body count, a first person shooter game ( many of which are free to play ) would be more than sufficient.

There is plenty of strategy to be found in deathmatch. You can see this in fights that occur in OS, GvG’s, or just look at GW1 which was a much better PvP game.
You don’t see strategy in courtyard because the map is terrible for 5v5 and the majority of the people playing are built for conquest and would rather suffer through a bad match than change their build for 1 game.
