Hello, i’m a player from Portugal, currently playing on the european region. I work during the day and since Portugal is on the far western edge of europe we share the same timezone as the UK.
I played guildwars 1, and one of the things that i enjoyed the most about it was the fact that we could find people to play at any time. In fact, i actually made some friends from the US and Canada playing GW1, mainly due to my after-hours playing schedule.
Right now, in Guildwars 2, the Structured PvP (i’m specifically talking about Tournaments) have an issue related to this subject. After a certain time, it’s really hard to find opponents. For Paid tournaments i would risk saying it’s impossible to get the ball rolling after 23:30 GMT. If this was GW1, this situation wouldn’t arise, since we would be matched up against American teams and sometimes even Korean / Japanese teams.
So my question is: have you guys planned something related to this? My suggestion would be to implement a system similar to Dota2 and HoN, where you can opt-in or opt-out of “Global matchmaking”, being aware if you do so that you may suffer from increased latency in order to be able to play in a bigger player pool with hopefully much diminished wait times.
Also this would be a “necessary” feature for future world championships ?
I understand there are many things that need to be done in order to make Guildwars 2 e-sport PvP into a real thing. Lots of missing features that (i hope) are taking all of your (developers) time, just wanted to know/remind you guys about this particular one since it affects not only me, but all late night gamers all over the world.
