Current system does not support Teams
I believe a ladder will be displayed soon for both new game types. Although I would like to see (at some point) the 2 current “tournament” games be turned into a ranked team queue and a ranked duo/solo queue (which is likely what the devs are working on right now, there’s been too much promotion on the forum for them to ignore such a huge request from the community), then just turn hotjoin into custom games (confirmed by Tyler Bearce on this sub forum), and maybe add in just a casual matchmaking queue with no ladder similar to what is currently in place.
This is where I feel pvp is going, although it’s not ideal YET for teams, it never rely was. The pvp was built backwards in gw2, they gave us a team-based ladder before a solo queue, which meant people were progressing as teams and not as individual players. Now we can start from scratch, get some truly strong players isolated and then plug them into teams which will be far stronger than the ones that spawned from the previous system.
Slaping on a ladder on the current system would be a joke and i sincerly hope they arent considering doing that, they need atleast a soloque first. Even then ranked team tournaments wont be enough to keep teams going, playing for chests 6 months in isnt gona cut it. I dont get it they are suposedly going for esport somwhere along the line but they arent doing anything to keep the teams busy, theres no competiton going on. It is strange.
I agree that you cannot just slap a ladder on the current system. I also agree that the join solo is not a proper soloqueue. It seems to me to just be a one button submit allowing you to skip another button press. With the new behind the scenes test system I got plugged into a match during prime time hours with 2 rank 1 players. There are 2 explanations I can think of as to why this happened, and neither of them are good. Of course this is all conjecture since Anet is using its double secret completely transparent way of operating. First explanation is that they won their first game and have a perfect rating. Second explanation is that high rank players are distributed among teams and then low ranked players are added, cycling back and forth until rosters are full. I will say that this results in a close match usually, but that in itself does not make it a fun game. It was painfully obvious in the tournament match that they were new as one of them followed me around the whole game and the other would stand on the point that I was capturing when I had been there for a while neutralizing it first. How can a team really play against a pug? Well, not at all with the current system. IF the soloqueue is done properly, this situation would not exist. The only benefit of mixing pugs with premades is in a LOW population playerbase that we have now. If you separate ranked team play then you get to have an established rivalry and if you finally beat a great opponent you can feel progression and achievement-something that is currently missing. I do not want to win despite the best efforts of my teammates working against the pug. I do not want to babysit or teach new players if I want to get a win and progress to a better rating as a solo player. This is not fun for me and I would guess that others share this opinion. I do not think that premades of middle quality would feel achievement in beating a pug. The current join solo does not feel as if I am progressing as a solo player and I don’t think that making a visible rating will change that. As far as rewards go, I haven’t opened up a single match win chest. The only reason that I am playing PvP is for the competition. I mean seriously, you get an orb for daily completion 0.o? To restate, adding a ladder to this system will be bad, REALLY REALLY BAD.
screw the ladder, we need a solo que system of people are going to stop playing unless their team is on
I mean, the last 6 games I did while solo queuing have been against premades, and actually 19 out of 29 (yes, I’m keeping track :p ) have been against premades
This is not fun.

Agree, i don’t think match rating is working. But Anet said IT IS working.
I liked the swap from 8-team to 2-team, however there are no rewards and no visible leaderboards for people to see….
If they had made the change from 8-team to 2-team while immediately implementing the leaderboards/rankings/ratings, maybe things would have been different…

it’s working so much that if you win a lot with your team, you end up facing premades ALL THE kittenING TIME. So much for the “if you solo que the system tries to put you with other solo queuers against solo queuers” (or with 4 other people who joined together).
Out of 30 games, I ended up in a team of 3 people like 2 times.
Just to add on the statistics, 3 games today, 3 premades (my team being all soloers). Let’s see how long will my liver last.
