Zerk GS + Mace/Shield Warrior from my point of wiev uf you wanna play solo and be viable.
Drahon Hunter is also viable in lower tiers baceuse af his burst and traps and unvul.
Next maybe elementalist or mesmer (but you need some skill).

Overall, I would say power warrior is most well-rounded build for PvP. High damage, good sustain and good mobility. It is both good duelist and team fighter.

The second best is probably dp thief. But thief requires a lot more mechanical skill and tactical vision to play well. However, due to its crazy-good mobility, thief probably has the strongest carry potential of all classes.

There is no best since that is mostly on preference and experience, but there are easiest like DH and Warrior which have extremely low Skillfloors and allow inexperienced players to profit extremely well.

Both sustain and burst? Definitely warrior and DH. Other professions have better sustain, but at the cost of some of the burst. Like Druid for example is amazing at staying alive with constant stealth and powerful healing, all the while their pet does high damage, but the burst itself isn’t comparable to warrior and DH. Eles are pretty much pure sustain with little damage. Other professions can do high damage but at the cost of sustain, like necro and thief. Thieves have constant evades but if they’re hit, it’s just about GG.

But warrior and DH has the specs that allow them to pick up as many sustain skills as possible all while maintaining crazy high damage. Their sustain doesn’t come from tankiness, but from skills that block, evade or immunize them.

Dragonhunter (DH) is the Guardian elite specialisation for Heart of Thorns.
You might wanna look up the build in metabattle.
It’s a blend of traps and old meditations.
Your burst consists of pulling and pushing people through Test of Faith.

Latest balance patches showed very coutionous changes resulting in close to nothing.
I expect the sigil update and not much more… (Well i still hope more weak/unused skills get buffed).

Currently it´s like the following.

Dragonhunter or maybe even other guard builds are easy to use and powerful. You will get carless or low skilled players regulary.

Warrior: Most solid “Lonestar”

Thief: Powerful to win matches if you have good map awareness and know where to go but more then one in a team can cause a downfall.

Mesmer: If you are good it´s the carry match class.

Elementalist got mentioned and is a bit the oposite of dragonhunter. Elementalists are team dependent. In higher skill level play its a match winner for teamfights. In duo Q with a necromancer quite powerful. But the class can´t carry a bad team. The map control classes thief, mesmer and warrior are the good one´s to compensate a bad player.

Also i see lots of druids. Nearly all matches one on each side. I think people just like the hunter style with a strong bow and pet. The class is a very solid allrounder but i personally don´t find it a great threat or carry class.

Warrior is for shure the best choice because adapt better to a large amount of situations, have high burst damage and sustain (play it in direct damage, is better than conditions).
If you’re at low tiers, play also Dragonhunter, but at higher levels it’s lesser efficent because there’s a lot of tricks that can make an enemy totally ignore the DH defences. Also warriors and classes with CC will kill you easy. One trick is: with the warrior, stay in front of the guardian and spam 100Blades with the GS, the range of that weapon will make you hit the guardian even if he use his protective AoE shield (F3). or active the skills that make you unblockable, the guardian will be unable to protect himself from your burst and CC and you’ll be able to kill him easy and fast.

If you want to try, the Thief at high level is more or less unkillable if you know how to play it, you have so much skills to spam and evade/dodge/stealth/block to make you unkillable in every 1v1. At the best you can make a thief flee but you will never kill one (if is good).

Another class that is seriously Op but no one really think it is is the Ranger with the elite Druid. Play dps witht he LB and HoT pets, you will be able to heal every condition or direct damage burst in a second, your pet inflict insane damage, you hiflict huge damage and have a large amount of defensive skills, stealth and movement.

In my opinion the Ranger is the stronger class for sPvP we actually have because is insanely strong in 1v1, can fight really good in team, grant support/heal to allies, have a large amount of sustain, high mobility and even when you’re under a CC pressure your pet hit like a truck, granting you to inflict damage all the time.
But is harder to play than the warrior, that is more or less “kill or die” (but with so much damage and sustain that is hard to die).

This is a good summary. Some classes are quite strong, but comp dependent, while others will bring more with random plebs.

For me, when I’m feeling try-hard, I’ll log in with my thief, if we have another, but are missing an ele, I swap to ele, otherwise I’ll swap to guard or warrior. If the enemy team has a thief, I’ll drop mine and swap to DH.

Hope this helps in some of the composition craft that goes on before games. (I’m not a very good ranger, necromancer, or mesmer, so I don’t bother with those)
