Cyber-bullying
As someone who sufered from clinical depression I have to ask ANET to take a harder stand on this, this is not something that can fit into a 3 hour or more ban, I can tell you that if people are already on the edge this will push them over.
People’s lifes are on the line, please act acordingly.
To anyone whos thinking about suicide, avoid pvp and whisper me, you are not alone.

It’s the kind of environment PvP in any game breeds, unfortunately. Competitiveness can bring out the worst in good people and attracts the ones that get an ego boost out of their already inflated sense of self superiority.
By no means do I think it’s okay to say what they do… But if someone has had any kind of experience with sports or video game PvP in the past, they should know the kind of crowds it can have.
I’ve still got a screen of something extremely racist someone once said to me in PvP that actually shocked me with how ignorant it was. Racist remarks rarely upset me simply because anyone who thinks that way isn’t worth getting upset with in my mind. But every once in a blue moon someone says something so ignorant you’re just speechless.
Anyway it’s nice to see there are still some people with enough compassion to care about this kind of thing. Had I been there I’m sure I’d have given them a piece of my mind but I doubt I’d get anywhere worth while with it given the sounds of their maturity – or lack there of.

System actually works, just got myself off a 2 week ban for talking smack in map chat.
Its beutiful world you live in where biggest problems you have is people beeing mean in a video game, i can give you some likes on facebook if that will make you feel better.
Ser some1 talking kitten you dont like-right click on their name abd block, its that easy.
I find it very funny when ppl get upset over some1 you dont even know and might never get to meet……come on why so sesible to words said by some1 who doesnt mean crap in real life to you……
some kittens feeling tough when they talk kitten like that. usually a group of dumb kids, if you ask them why they premade, they claim its because they want to play with friends for fun.
but in fact, theyre the silly ones who want to win no matter what, and if they lose, its the pugs fault (who probably focused on objectives) and they blame them of course. and if you ask them why they need to talk kitten after a loss, they say: we are very competitive and want to win you know.. (they dont even get that they contradict themselves btw)
people on the internet dont know kitten about you. unless you tell them your life story.
while i agree that you should have at least a bit psychic immunity, kids are playing the game, and you cant expect that from them. so, yes i agree those bullies should be banned. cant play pvp without annoying others (like that) ? dont do it.
Yeah any PvP game breeds smack talking fools. Now a bit of banter in a match when you beat someone 1v1 yeah that’s all good, I often say something in /say. Like lol, if it was a good scrap, then I might say good fight. But if it was a stomp, I tent to “noob” them. Just to make them a little mad, to puts them off there game, or try. But I never personally attack people. Tell them to kill them self’s or what ever. A little bit of a wind up if fine in my book, but personal attacks, or racist remarks are not on. I’m glad we have the block function.

the best thing you can do is report them and attach a screenshot. if that doesnt work and you see them doing it again you can force anet to act by posting the screenie on the forums and/or elsewhere.
And how did that person get themselves in that chat situation to begin with?
If you were depressed, why would you announce it to a PvP lobby?
I agree that chat can be really ridiculous sometimes, but it’s SO easy to ignore it. I might as well mute it and it wouldn’t affect me in any way what so ever. There is no need to engage in it tbh, especially not anything sensitive or personal. Would you announce your problems to a group of random people waiting for a bus irl?
You can just alt+tab while waiting for a que or something and not even care about the chat.

If you understood clinical depression, you’d understand that announcing it to people in an online format could be a last ditch attempt to get some sort of help. Rational or not, it is what it is.

lol preach it!!! I envy the lifestyle where the only worry is ensuring that every random person likes me over the interweb.
Seems rather odd to get upset over a conversation that didn’t even involve you. what if it was two friends busting each others balls waiting for the hell that is the pvp queue game. Usually more serious trash talk is taken to pms.
I’m more worried about the common sense issue, If you were told to “jump off a bridge” and you view that as a valid choice….. the last thing you should be doing is playing videogames ( especially participating in competetive pvp) instead of seeking help
Using the in-game report system is incredibly effective. We have people watching The Stream, as we call it, 24/7/365. Left click the person or the person’s name in chat, right click, Scroll to “Verbal Abuse,” and the monitors will see the chat string and strings around it.
I will let CS know that this seems to be a growing issue, and they will take whatever steps they can to handle this.

You cannot attach a screenshot to the initial ticket. You can submit a ticket and offer to provide a screenshot or screenshots in a subsequent response. (You can attach after the first contact; it’s a security measure.)
But I have to ask: why submit a ticket when the chat monitoring and in-game report system is so effective? It’s far more efficient for the agents monitoring The Stream to simply pull up the logs, or see the logs automatically provided to them, and action from that system, rather than having someone review a report through the ticketing system.
Left click the character engaged in offensive chat or left click after choosing their name in the chat window. Right click and choose the bottom option, which is “Report.” Select a reason, which it sounds to be “Verbal Abuse.” Click “Submit” and you’re done. It take less than 30 seconds and you do see a verification that the name you’ve selected is the one you intend, to avoid accidentally sending a report about a guildie or someone chatting with you.
If you’re option is to send an e-mail report then include exact spelling of the character or display name, the date, time, time zone, and server. Include what was said and the context, if any. Once you’ve submitted a ticket, CS will let you know if they need to see the screenshot. You then can submit a screenshot, after the initial ticket.
Thanks for helping make the game a better place to be!

Do AFKers reported for “Botting” get responded to in a similar way or is it a situation of not enough to warrant action?
